The way you showed the chronograph screen as an inset was perfect. Incredibly consistent decelerations (only +/-1 or 2 fps spreads) from muzzle to 30 yds for each bullet.

Different type of performance from them but either seems as though it would be a good defensive round. I use 64 grain Winchester Deer Season XP as my coyote round and would not hesitate to use it as a defensive round.

Winchester made a silver tip in 5.56 pressure and it was spicy. Winchester has some great ammo and also some not so great ammo, but their 5.56 and 9mm NATO pressure loads are usually awesome. They actually load their 5.56 to 5.56 pressure.

It's gonna be great for rifle stuff but I had some issues with the handgun stuff on the next couple you'll see. I went out today and did some more. I think handgun is gonna be best with the regular chrono or a combo of both.😎👊

Great test. Ive been watching your old videos and I saw you are improving a lot in your test method. Great job on this one. Btw, have you tested 5.56 Fort Scott Tumbling Upon Impact ammo? I'd think Liberty Civil Defense & Fort Scott TUI kill make a great combo for self defense. One will dump lots of energy and the other one will be barrier blind where penetration is needed. And both of them can penetrate body armor to certain lvl with Fort Scott might penetrate easier.

My go to for 5.56 is the barnes vortex 62 tsx but like you said either one of these would be great also for SD applications if they run reliably and group decently. If I find a DEAL on either might stock some up. Great review as always brother.

I watched a video where the silvertip was caught in a layer of clothing, and after entering the block failed to expand. But that was 9 millimeter so it may be different with 223

Both are great options. I am actually pleasantly surprised with the Civil Defense. It really disrupted the impact area quite well. And it did provide deep penetration. I am pretty old school. So the Winchester didn't disappoint. Thank you.

Silvertip for me. I know they're devastating in 30-06 168gr. Meat shredder. As far as 223 I use PMC or whatever is cheaper. Nice Chrono setup 👍🏻 🇺🇸

Cheers mate for the review I’m in Australia and can get the Winchester silver tip fairly cheap. Pigs are a problem where I am from they cause dramas for our farmers and bigger dramas for native wild life. I like a clean a kill it’s humane and how it should be I too my Ruger American Ranch 223 out on my brothers farm using the Silver Tip I got four pigs 3 from behind the front quarter they dropped and were dead before they hit the ground average size of these 3 around 54kgs the big fella 84kgs I got I hit him under the right ear it was instant. So yes it is a good round for hunting all kills we’re inside 100yrds.

Both appear to be excellent home defense ammo. Multiple Targets / no over penetraction. It appears to be great volicity and accuracy. Most energy dumped in to the gel. Lone Bear.

Just a standard weight instead of super light for caliber like their other stuff. Kinda odd for em to even make this really. A good V-Max or Varmageddon type round does about the same thing.

I think the Liberty ammunition civil defense round in .223 is designed more for fragmenting than light weight increased velocity. I’m glad they’re making it. Fragmenting rounds have proven to be very effective.

The mushroomed hands down for defensive or hunting needs, but for vermints, either would be fine. Fudds will argue the solid copper will go thru 20 dry wall boards and 10 units at the apartment complex. Plus or minus, anything standing or sitting in the way, bwdik.

Great against gel but pretty light in penetration. If you had to shoot through anything sustantial like a car door,windshield, fence, wall, etc these loads might not penetrate deep to ensure penetration through and through. I'd prefer a partition type bullet or a heavy weight 77 grain (or more) bullet

For self defense; I think both are great for what they are made for. I don't think the civil defense would make a good hunting round for the same reason it makes a great defense round- it puts too much metal in the meat of a game animal: but that's what you want in a defense round...it dumps energy & metal fragments in the wound channel which would cause whatever animal you shoot to bleed out in a hurry! The silver tip? I have used Winchester silver tips in rifle & handguns, it never fails to expand - with the exception of one round in an F.B.I. shoot out years ago; if the truth be known, the round that failed in the F.B.I. shootout, hit a guy that was high on drugs & in those situations, some drug addicts can take more fatal shots from all kinds of weapons & survive long enough to kill a good lawman: my personal experience with Silvertip these days are all good they expand & do their jobs! I'm not in law enforcement, but if I was, I wouldn't hesitate to use either of these rounds!

The win supreme 7mm 150gr silvertip I’ve had 20yrs are loaded with accubonds I’m bout positive and brother let me tell you…on a doe@60yrds neck shot was just shy of total decapitation….couple buddies couldn’t believe it…I’d like to have those 64gr…my 55grhp rn 3k but most my handloads don’t group at the 3k mark more round 2100fps from 16”..55s and 77s and few 85gr rdf…try some blitzkings and v max in jelly..be cool to see
