Check a quick view of my channel i actually Just tested the 9mm Winchester Elite Defender 124 Grain +P and surprisingly They absolutely step all over .40 Elite defender 180 Grain although it’s bigger and Heavier but quite a bit slower with less muzzle Energy. The 9mm +P elite defender expanded better and makes a more devastating wound channel. Only department the .40 wins is always Really deep over 18” of Penetration and the 9mm +P was only able to penetrate 11.5” So Unless your packing High pressure specialty underwood 165 Grainers The FAWTY is as good as DEAD!!! @@djangofreeman9382the 40sw year in year out is the 3rd best selling handgun round. All major manufacturers still chamber handguns in the round so it’s nowhere near dead like 357 sig. As for ur test it sounds interesting and all but that’s just one round. I’ll probably check ur channel out but good 40 always will take a hard dump on 9mm. I’m a game warden and have carried 40 for many years and have witnessed its performance in real life applications and it’s not close. A few years ago I took out a 200 plus lb hog with one shot the round hit it in the chest and came out its back hip breaking 11 bones along the way. 40 will probably make a comeback in 10 years when Glock wants to sell new equipment to law enforcement across the world.

@@djangofreeman9382 For decades it’s been proven over and over that a larger heavier round is more effective at stopping people. The bullet performance of 40 isn't why guys don't want it anymore. In modern bullet construction 9mm has improved to be a viable man stopper. The main thing now is shootibility and capacity. Which follow-up shots are easier with 9mm and you have more rounds.

i agree, for .40 the 165gr bullets are the better choice. .40 struggles to get 180gr bullets to a high enough speed, however underwood does make a 180gr that’s going pretty quick
@almaadams363111 ай бұрын
Being that the number 1 handgun "stopper" is a soft lead semi jacketed 125grn 357mag at 1425fps.......Why all the insistence on heavy, slow projectiles? I have been reloading and hunting/varmiting/culling for at least 40 years. 40sw. 135grn Noslers at 1350 to 1450fps will do anything required of a DEFENSIVE pistol round. Speed defeats barriers as well. Overcoming a materials( glass, metal, wood) elasticity requires SPEED....period. Instant human incapacitation requires hydraulic capillary concussion. Forcing blood to the brain, and bursting the capillaries in the brain. KO! This also requires a minimum of 500ft lbs of energy.( although I do think some 165grn 40sw rounds in the 450/485ft lbs. energy levels are capable as well. Provided they expand immediately.
@acid6urns11 ай бұрын
@@almaadams3631 i agree, it baffles me why the 180gr is the ‘standard’ load for .40, when it has as much as 1/8 less energy than a 165gr load. going from 450-480 ft lbs of energy with a good 165gr down to 400 ft lbs (or less in short barrels) is insane to me, and basically negates the advantages.40 has over 9mm. sure i suppose the 180gr may penetrate a bit more but 165gr has BEYOND sufficient penetration and dumps all of its energy almost immediately. the only 180gr loads i’ve seen worth a shit are the underwood loads and that’s only bc underwood loads their shit pretty hot
@almaadams363111 ай бұрын
@@acid6urns Energy should be added to power factor or kinetic energy as well. I mean a 165grn 40sw and a 115grn 9mm. with 450ft.lbs ARE NOT EQUAL. Then again speed breaks the elasticity of ALL materials and flesh. I like 135 and 155grn 40sw. The new copper projectiles don't do as well with 40sw. although I do have quite a few boxes of NOVEX 77grn. +P 40sw that produce about 588ft.lbs. They are fluted and work like the Extreme Defenders. They have been discontinued for some reason ( like people aren't buying 40sw, especially new tech bullets like these)

Good! Glad they performed. I, as you, was not confident that it was going to reliably perform. As a 40 carrier from the late 90s, I have tried & tested most of the offerings in many bullet weights in crude media tests. The 180s are the most likely to not reliably expand. Especially out of Shields and G27 barrel lengths. Quite a # of Winchester offerings have inconsistent performance in 40 on other(guntuber) gel tests over the years. I am inclined to believe the first and possibly the second G27 bullets didn't properly expand. Under 900fps with a Winchester 180 bonded is a challenge. Good stuff. Thank you much.

Every good 40S&W ammo test you do, Tools, gives me the itch to get a 40S&W. 😄

Would love to see you test the winchester defender in 10mm. Very interested in how it performs

It performs very well, WW uses the same 180gr bullet in the .40 and the 10MM PDX-1 Defender. So driving this bullet at 10MM velocities brings the best out of it.

It's good to see Winchester with a useable product. Seems to me they lagged behind for a long time.

Very good video as always. It may appears to me, they appear a little ragged in the expansion department. Although they went thru a barrier the uneven expansion maybe what caused the first two to exit as compared towards the two that stayed in. However, as you already stated, good expansion being bonded and Great penetrations. Thanks again, I love .40S&W.

Awesome test Great results. I'll have to get some of that ammo for sure. Thanks my friend for the great info.

I know it would be expensive. Likely difficult. Don’t know if they even make it. But… could you do some jelly testing on rifle calibers that expand and try to catch the projectile for examination? I’m thinking of expanding into the long gun market and I want to do something for self defense that has expansion but can also go long. Of course the crowd will likely yell 556/223 but I’m very interested in seeing comparisons. There may be other KZbinrs that have done this type of testing but quite honestly I don’t want to watch someone else.

I've done quite a few rifle tests. Are you looking for a specific caliber?

@@ToolsandTargets OH! I will surf back through vids and find them. I don’t have any particular calibers in mind, no.

These are PDX IIRC. Correct me if I'm wrong. Kinda missing my g23 and CorBon DPX now.

The win elite I have used was "tactical." It was a little slower maybe, but it was accurate, and very easy to shoot. I don't always feel I need the most speed and blast.

Man I am addicted to your tests, especially the 40 but I have a question, does temperature affect the hardness of the gel?

I like HST it seems to get the job done in any caliber
