Wow. This is a step up in product reviewing. The tear down for quality and parts inspection is superb. As an Engineer these are the type of detail reviews I look for. Not just usage and effectiveness but design and build quality is just as important.

Your post helped me. I purchased the Bauer and tried it out of the box. It worked fine, it was loud and I did notice the vibration. I tore open the gear housing, cleaned out the grease and added new good quality grease. The noise and vibration were greatly reduced! Your post break down helped me greatly on my purchase. Thank you very much.

The distinction between 8MM and 20MM throw is substantial. It's a totally different tool - that longer throw will substantially increase cut and reduce work time for defect removal.

one of the best product reviews I have ever seen. Very thorough. currently the prices are $70 for the 5.7 amp and $90 for the 7.5. I would spend the extra $20..

Thanks for the great review. I was trying to decide between the two HF Bauer polishers. After watching numberous KZbin videos, I chose the newer Bauer with the 20mm throw. I haven't used it yet, but the ramping speed control, lower vibration, longer and rubber coated cord, ease of brush replacement, and the rat tail trigger handle sold me on spending the extra money...all that, and the fact that I still had $180 left on my HF gift card from the class action suit. I was glad to see they used more/different grease in the gear box on this model, without me having to tear it down to check before even using it. Can't wait to get started using it for paint correction and polishing, after deep washing and claying my 1993 red Accord (212k) and 2003 black Expedition (50k)!!

Just like you, since I already have the 1st gen polisher, I'm not justified in buying another one for $100. For those who feel they need more performance out of your polisher, I recommend spending the money on some good microfiber cutting pads. I don't need anything more aggressive than those, they cut as fast as I want to---so there is little benefit in the long throw for me. Great video as always TT!

I would not say that there is "just a little improvement" in the newer one, because the "Throw" of 20 mm versus 8 mm makes it MUCH more powerful and efficient at polishing a rough, just applied paint job. (Perhaps the older one is acceptable for only applying wax or removing fine blemishes, but little else).

Your review sold me on this product for home use. I have a Porter Cable 7424XP that gives me excellent results, but since developing arthritis in my hands the case diameter, vibration and on/off give me some difficulty. Looking forward to what appears to be a more ergonomic machine. Have also been eyeing the G9; since this is low usage, and a trial for me will give the Bauer a go.

@mrhonda1
@mrhonda1 5 жыл бұрын
@@carl3233 I had the G9 in my virtual cart since a website had it on sale for $120 and that price had me leaning in that direction. The sale countdown timer was at 5 days when I put it in the cart. I was doing a little more research and started to see several reports of the G9 quitting in the middle of a job and not starting back up. I read that there is a "new" version of the G9 that might correct those issues so I was waiting until the end of the sale in the hopes of getting the newest inventory. However, I checked back in on my cart and the price was back up to $150 before the end of the sale. I contacted the company's website and it turns out that Griots told them that they can't have it on sale so they had to put the price back up without notice. My only other experience with Griots was an overpriced bottle of garbage car wash so I wasn't a fan to begin with but we considering the new machine solely on the sale price. The other deterrent was the fact that the G9 doesn't have a soft start. Who designs an all new machine from the ground up and doesn't even put in a soft start? Even Bauer did that. I may or may not get the Bauer but I'm definitely not giving my money to Griots anymore. Maybe a Maxshine after I do a little more research.

Does the backing plate have the 5/16" male thread the same as the old model? Also, would a 5" backing plate (with cooling holes) fit in place of the 6" I wish they had done a 15mm throw instead of the more aggressive 20mm throw, and made it a 5" polisher instead of 6"

I would have been interested in your thoughts about replacing the factory 6" backing plate with a third-party 5" backing plate. I've heard that the 5" doesn't bog down as much, vibrates less, and is easier to manipulate on curved surfaces or in tight spaces. Basically, it works better ... but is it worth the 40% to 50% cost differential? P.S. Got my answer elsewhere. It's recommended that you replace the 6" backing plate because the factory backing plate flexes too much. So, if you're going to spend the money to replace it, you might as well replace it with a 5" backing plate. (I replaced mine with a RUPES 5" backing plate, Part No. ‎980-027N. Works great!)

That might be a little apples and oranges as the G9 is a short-throw (9mm if I remember) and Bauer 56367 is a long-throw. If you're talking build quality, it wouldn't be hard to guess that the G9 will be superior with a lifetime warranty.

These both seem overpriced to me seeing as they are basically an angle grinder with a polisher head. How does that make it cost 2x as much?

Well, it has everything a grinder has plus the speed control and the counterweight assembly. Some grinders have speed controls. But not the cheaper ones.
