I have home video of Toon Tag somewhere in my many Florida holiday videos. It was a constantly running event in the Internet Zone. A Cast Member would serve as host and pick out kids/adults to play the game - the individual video screens would show a countdown to the next game and then in about the last minute you would have a randomiser pick which character you got. The CM would then explain the fairly simple rules - 5 minutes to run about the Map, you had to run into someone else to tag them, and I think you respawned after each tag with a temp invincibility so you didn't just get constantly tagged. there would be a 3 and 1 minute warning before the game ended, once it ended the game would use certain stats. So naturally there would a winner for most tags, then maybe one for longest run, and then some silly ones like "best dressed" - so essentially everyone was a best *something* so nobody came away bummed.

Ok this is cool. I actually thought everything about this game was lost. I didn't even know you could actually play it at one point, I just thought it was a prototype that eventually turned into toontown. Glad I was wrong.

I vividly remember this, it was an enjoyable watch seeing kids play the game I grew up with, but I didn't wanna go up as I was 14 watching 5-11 year olds in the queue to play I hope one of the fan servers remakes it sometime! Cause it was MUCH better than Trolley Tag

5:34 That piece of music in the background can also be found in a PS2 game called Barnyard. It plays whenever you play a minigame of pool. Nothing related to Toontown, just thought I'd let you guys know.

I played Toon Tag in Epcot when I was really young, it brings back memories. Thinking of the games in Interventions I played brings back memories too, but I went last September to Disney and the Interventions section is pretty empty now. I hope the construction in there ends up being worth it.

Probably cause they needed to make the entire game compatible on windows 95 at the time. Which is a daunting task.

For some reason, this video reminded me of a commercial that aired (not about Toon Tag, but about Toontown Online) on Disney Channel that involved showing Disney's "hip and with it" technological projects that were in development. All I really remember is that Kyle Massey was playing at a Toontown Online demo booth. It was pretty neato.

Oh my gosh, do you remember that Detective Lima story line with her (back when she was a female mouse, don't know why they changed her model later down the line) investigating why Goofy was in Daisy Gardens? I think it was in a news letter or something, she was trying to get to the bottom of what happened to Daisy. Needless to say, you solved that mystery for her.

I've played this when it was shown in Innoventions! I think this was an early alpha test! OK, since the comment was liked by the uploader, I think it's time to recollect on my experience. So, my family was visiting Walt Disney World for summer vacation (we went every year, my childhood was pretty nice), and we eventually went to Epcot. The futuristic theme of that park made it one of my favorites. So, to the meat of the story; we visited the Innoventions building. I can't remember exactly what it looked like, but the Toon Tag part stuck in my head. It was like the video. Toon Tag was an attraction that played like a game show. It was very popular. I remember a small crowd was around it because kids love video games. Along with the four stands and the displays, there was also an announcer lady. When it was my family's turn to go up, we each picked a Toon. I went with Mickey. There was an introduction from the announcer, telling the audience about how great we are for playing, and then the timer kicked in. We spent the next few minutes running around the green map with the trolley. The Toons ran relatively fast because that's pretty much all they could do. I don't know if the It toon got to run faster, but given that Schell designed this, I wouldn't oust it as a possibility. We spent the time running, taking the Trolley for a quicker ride around the map... and then eventually time ran out. The Announcer called to give us a round of applause, then awarded titles to each player (Like least tagged, highest points, etc.). There wasn't anything physical you could take from this; it was just a fun event.

I remember playing Toon Tag at Epcot during my first trip to Walt Disney World, and what I remember from the game, you'd also collect Ice Cream Cones while playing tag, and if you're it you can't collect Ice Cream cones, and at the end of a certain amount of time there would be no definite winner but each player would get an award on screen, with the player having the most ice cream cones, the player who was not it the longest, the player who was it the least, & the most silliest player (which is a fancy expression for the player who didn't win anything)

Yo guys this video is very old but I just found a Toon Tag asset in Pandora. Go to the maps folder and look for a file just named “bridge”. It’s the same bridge shown at 6:40 !! PANDORA HAS TOON TAG ASSETS

Oh my god! I can't believe someone remembered Toon Tag. I played it when I was a tiny four year old in Epcot, back in 2005. I played it before Toontown, so was very excited by Toontown when I found it. :) Thank you for helping bring my memories of this back.

Toon Tag was actually how I started playing Toontown. I remember playing as Minnie and it was on the grassy map..... pretty sure I didn't win lol.

I played Toon Tag once. I think it was right before they removed it from Innoventions. It had two general screens. One to show a high up map on a wall, and one for each character. Otherwise, it worked just like the tag game in Toontown, except for the fact that the Disney characters were the playable characters, and the trolley was an easy way to get away from your opponents.

I hadn't thought to look it up until now but I definitely played this sometime in the mid 2000's with my mom there. I recognized it as ToonTown immediately, and I'm pretty sure there was some mention or branding of ToonTown somewhere near there but that might be my memory mixing things up.

I forgot the name of this game but it randomly came to me the other day. I had assumed that it was something gone from history at this point that nobody would remember so I appreciate you making something like this. Feels like I have closure on the subject now. Sad that it'll probably never be played again because it's a nostalgic memory for me, but cool to see there's people who also remember it from childhood.

Toon Tag was my favorite thing to play in Epcot. I played it every time I went to Disney. I was heartbroken when it was taken out.

Not being funny but isn't 7:51 the building they use as a cinema on the streets? So it is being used just not what they planned probably. As far as i can tell TTR is a exact copy of TT with slight differences as you have said in newer episodes, so i'd like to say it was in the original but i was quite young and i don't remember all the details.

I've been going to Disney once or twice a year since 2005 and this doesn't look or sound familiar at all. To be fair, when it closed I would've been 2 or 3 but my family never mentioned it. Innoventions used to be so much cooler. I remember it was called Run r something, it recorded yor movements and then you culd play yourself in a platformer game. Oh how the mighty have fallen, Innoventions just feels like emoty buildings now.

The "mercantile" buildings did exist in TTO in the alpha/beta. the gag shops actually used to just be generic buildings with just "mercantile" on the sign. I'd show a picture or two but i don't know if imgur links are allowed in youtube comments.

I've seen them in photos but I don't think they're all too interesting really, I'm assuming it's simply a computer with some specially written Toontown player inside the cabinet with some external hardware hooked up (the roundball cursor and a keyboard)

Both of them were snippets from shots featuring epcot innoventions, I think one was specifically from an Epcot 2000 celebration promotional video. If you look around for Epcot 2000/millenium celebration type stuff, you should be able to find it with enough digging.

If someone is good at panda3D and is good at toontown make a replica of toon tag and make your own maps it would be cool and whoever is good respond and make it if there is a toontown forum post your updates and how the game is working out it would be so cool and make sure its multiplayer and you can add cpu because some people dont have internet.

I know this is a tiny amount of footage to go off of, but I still have hope one day someone will recreate this or contact a developer who has access to these files (hopefully they haven't been deleted, I assume they haven't since it's a foundation for a lot of stuff in TTR.) *Edit: It's a real shame a lot of it's been deleted, but if we have the code we could still potentially recreate it?**
