I slept through it only because I gave up on Cartoon Network not long after Toonami died in 2008. But when I woke up on that April Fool’s Day I was like don’t even prank me like that. Then finding out it was real I gave myself a punch in the face. Since the revival in May of that year, I have made sure to watch every bit of Toonami since then. Like I have not even skipped a single show including reruns.

If I remember correctly I was actually about to change the channel when I thought bleach wasn't going to air that night. However, before I did I heard tom's voice and my hype levels went from 0 to 100 in almost an instant. It was also amazing seeing anime from my childhood play on live television for the first time in a long time.

I remember I wasnt even home. I was playing pool with my friends at a bowling alley with pool tables in the back. The TV was showing DBZ and I thought, "cool they're playing DBZ" until it shows Tom saying it'll return. I shat myself.

Similar. I was fixing my PS3 (voltage issue , had to turn the hood screw in the power supply a bit). I was flipping through the guide on my tv and saw Dragon Ball Z .. NOT Dragon Ball Kai, or Dragon Ball Super, but DRAGON BALL Z. I was like HELL FUCKING YEAH and turned to that bitch…and then..I saw TOM.. and the rest was history. Toonami is infamous for having nights that you’ll never forget and never saw it coming. I’ll never forget the night I was introduced to the Gorillaz and THEN…DAFT PUNK. Toonami is such a important part to a millennials upbringing it’s ridiculous.

Many people like myself were asleep while this aired since the TV Guide was unreliable that night. Then you wake up on an April Fools Day finding out this happened and start thinking that is not funny don’t mess with me only to realize it was for real. Then you get to the point of wanting to say every curse word for missing it. But pretty much everyone who found out about this was telling Williams Street that it needs to be for real so it did almost 2 months later.

When I first heard about this Toonami April Fool's thing. I missed it. Because I thought Adult Swim was just showing the same shit over and over again. And as much as I like Bleach and Cowboy Bebop at the time. AS at the time was just showing the same shit, so I didn't even bothered. Even FMA Brotherhood was having reruns like 3 fucking times, and Inuyasha as well. Here I am still watching Toonami, I looked at the ratings when it first showed all the way through the ratings currently. (Because I was bored.) And it seems pretty consistent. Some days or months it does real good and other days not so much. But everybody schedules are different of course. Even though it lost the 2 hour slot. The ratings now are still the same or slightly higher now than couple years ago, because DBZ Kai pretty much proves to be the one keeping Toonami alive, and Kill La Kill is second, Honestly, I am strongly convinced that Toonami is solely alive because of DBZ, whether present, future or the past. I should also mention the ratings that Toonami ever had, DBZ was always the highest. This tells me something. Whenever Dragonball Super is dubbed, PUT THAT SHIT IN TOONAMI! I guaran-fucking-tee it will make Toonami stronger than it ever has since 2012. Every one encourage Toonami to have DB Super ready as soon as possible in the future!

I wish I had stayed up that night. It wasn't until 2016/2017? when I was talking with some friends over shows we watched as kids. I said something like "I miss Toonami", they said "Ya know it's been back for awhile right?" I had no idea. They said something of it returning on April Fool's Day 2012. I looked it up, and yep, there it was. Watched the block the first Saturday after hearing the word from my friends. Needless to say, it was the longest time I had watched on the Cartoon Network channel, because around 2011, that channel was basically dead to me (other than Regular Show, the other ones sucked, in my opinion). I found the April Fool's Day 2012 broadcast on an archive site, and of course I had to get it. It's great to watch.

I cannot stress enough how insane this was when it aired. Like genuinely. I had become a Toonami archivist for awhile and always thought the idea of it coming back as something a pipe dream at best, I must have watched toonami’s various intros at least a few hundred times so seeing it just pop on my tv was crazy because at first I thought I was just hearing things, then I looked on twitter and saw everyone freaking out and knew it was finally true. I was so happy because I remember even seeing people suggest it would have been kinda cool to see Toonami on adult swim, so it’s almost like some people foreshadowed it returning, and now it’s still going strong today. Crazy.

These bumpers are mostly recycled from the TOM 3 era when Toonami first moved to Saturdays before TOM 4 was introduced but with new clips. They kept this style bumpers on the revival of Toonami until about the time Sara came back but with Dana Swanson now being Sara.

It made sense to relaunch Toonami on Adult Swim because the audience that grew up with it on CN is older so it make since to put it on a more mature network. Plus me personally like it on AS because it can air the uncut versions of the shows that aired on the CN version and can air the mature anime that would be inappropriate for CN(Deadman Wonderland, kill la kill, extra).

I remember this because in 2009 I had stumbled upon it & Adult Swim. And got knee deep into Bleach as a freshman in high school. Then all of the sudden in 2012, graduating high school & was having issues with facing the identity crisis of being an adult. Then watching this & seeing that it wasn’t a joke & that I’d be able to love everything about Anime. It helped me accept facing new responsibilities like, rent & bills as an adult.
