I always got the feeling like early Brian being characterised as the voice of reason in the show was because he was Seth McFarlane's self insert character and thats how he saw himself. Wheras the later seasons are written less by Seth and more by other people and they wrote him to be a pretentious know-it-all because he was Seth McFarlane's self insert character and that's how they saw Seth.

this video is a really lovely anaylsis of how brians character changed and your family guy analyisis videos are always a great watch and really tackle perspectives and interpretations ive never thought about myself ^^ and maybe a little off topic to the discussion but im always glad when you talk about family guy you never resent it for its later seasons and are often open minded, i love seasons 4-7 the most out of the entire show and season four is my favorite so its nice to see a change of pace from the adult animation community

I haven’t thought it that way, but yes! “Carny Knowledge” forces Brian to confront that even people he perceives lower than him can still reject him. It further emphasizes the fact that Brian can’t accept his own flaws, to the point where he tries to win her back so HE can break up with her. He’ll always be stuck in the cycle, so as long as Brian thinks of himself as higher than thee

Not sure if it's jusy a generic character design trait or something more. But i always found it interesting how Brian's collar was similar in color scheme snd design notes as Jillian's choker.
