And all along i just thought it was what master guitarists played every now and then just to confirm that "status" in a way...not that they shouldn't, and maybe it's all just a strange coincidence whenever one of them uses such a guitar???

@@CaptWalker I suppose it has some actual utility, but I could never justify the price for merely being able to play both 6 & 12 strings during the course of a single song.
@mu99ins4 жыл бұрын
Not only is it a convenience during performing, not having to take time to switch guitars between songs, but it affords the option of playing two different guitars during the same song, for example, playing the six string on a solo and playing the 12-string for the accompaniment, not that such a thing happened on this song. Electric guitars can be set up for different sounds and effects, and a successful professional might have a selection of guitars to play during a performance, which are set up differently.

The guitar is an EDS-1275 Double Neck Gibson electric. The upper neck is a 12-string guitar, the lower neck is a 6 string guitar. Voice is distinctive and different.... wonder if she realizes that only a handful of singers can do this song justice.

I believe this live performance was recorded around 1975. The song was first released as a studio recording off of Led Zeppelin's 4th album in 1971. It is one of the most played songs in rock radio history and regarded by many as one of the best rock songs ever (and is still a staple on classic rock stations). It is also a very hard song to dance to and is amusing to watch people try. I love watching people react to it for rhe first time. ❤

I’m so happy the younger generation is discovering the greatest music ever created. I have to say I am a bit surprised you have never heard some of these timeless classics. Also I would recommend listening to the original albums as they are better than the live cuts imo. Good you you honey. From a 65 year old rocker.

I like this version rather that the live cut.

1973 I saw them in Mobile, AL Oh my, we were so blessed to have many of the bands we had back then. I was 21. Years later my teenagers were watching "Song Remains the Same" on MTV for days on end😉 Great movie by the way!

When you ever see or listen to one of those top 100 songs of rock history, this song is always right there at #1 or #2. Considered by many as the greatest song in rock history. Your reaction was wonderful. Thanks for reacting to my gen's music. We consider it the greatest era of music( 60s thru late 70s).

Loving your page! The thing to remember about Led Zeppelin is that their live performances NEVER sound the same twice. They had always been fond of improvisation and experimentation in their live shows. Their chemically induced euphoric state of mind played a big part in that ;) It is part of the magic of LZ. You should definitely treat yourself and compare the studio versions as well for the musical composition of their songs as written! Also, the double neck guitar is usually (as in this performance) a 6-string and a 12-string combination. I dare say that Jimmy Page was one of the first if not the first to ever use it as a prominent stage instrument.

This is from Madison Square Garden, NYC in 1973 and was filmed for their theater release The Song Remains the Same which came out in 1976. Stairway to Heaven is from their fourth album 1971.
