When I was a teen, I had cystic acne and I wanted to save money so I bought a bunch of ‘acne clearing’ products from the drugstore FOR 8 YEARS. Waste of time because they wouldn’t work so I would buy different products and it’d be a whole cycle. Ended up spending A LOT of money for nothing. After a lot of tears and negative balances in my bank, my parents forced me to go to a dermatologist...The acne cleared up in about a year 🤭🤭🤭 Go to a dermatologist.

"Know your face." This speaks volume to me, as for months I thought I had adult acne and I burnt my skin from over-exfoliation, retinoids, salicylic acid cream, tea tree oil (omg, it brought the worst stinging on my cheeks) etc, when in fact what I've been having is rosacea. One trip to dermatologist really blows my mind on how I overdid everything and inflicted more damage to my face.

Growing up, I had a family member who said that the best way to treat acne was to expose it to the sun as much as possible. A significant burn on top of acne sounds dreadful.

Definitely a NO! yes the sun doooooes have anti-inflammatory properties but the risk far outweighs the benefit - including the short term damage that can lead to potentially long hyperpigmentation. I wish I had had this info in the 1970s! I had severe acne for years. The doctor put me on antibiotics and left me on them for a few years. He prescribed different treatments that didnt work. I was told to use a sunlamp which made no difference. Finally I was referred to a dermatologist who was useless. In the skincare books then you were advised to wash your skin with baby soap. I used to double cleanse using a cream cleanser then wash my face with soap. Soap does not suit my skin and I made it worse. Finally in my 30s I was prescribed Roaccutane which cleared it up. I cringe when I think of the way I treated my skin but didnt know any different. Young people are so lucky now to have so much info and support available online. Keep up the good work. I know from experience how acne can affect your life.

As someone who suffered with really bad cystic acne for years, I can’t stress enough to listen to your dermatologist. I didn’t get access to a good one until I was an adult and scarring had already occurred. I’ve had to do three rounds of Accutane (I had absolutely no side effects) with 10 year gaps in between (I’m 46) with during the last time the derm upped my dose to almost four times the recommended level to try to knock it out, have been on renin-A for years, and am now also taking spironolactone to deal with new breakouts I started having that seem to be hormonal. All of these I pushed back on initially but they have literally saved my skin. Find a good dermatologist! I also currently use Apostrophe as an online dermatology service and it’s worked well for me.

Hi! I am do glad that young gals have access to specialists like you through YT 😊 I've been fighting with acne since early teenage years (and I am in my late 30s), and I've got to learn three lessons: A - treating acne is a journey, and there is no just one thing that cause this skin condition (and the reason you have it can change with your age - you grow with your acne); B - there is no amount of anti-acne products - the drugstore, over the counter ones, that can replace professionnal help and that can actually heal your skin from acne. The anti-acne cosmetics market is huge, but it is not worth to invest your money in. I spent a lot on French-pharmacy anti-acne skincare with very mediocre results; C : it is never too late to go and see the dermatologist and to start the treatment 😊😊 ps. I absolutely love your content 💕

I just ordered more pillowcases and face towels during the video! I shall be a rule breaker no more! Such common sense that escaped me!

My brother had terrible cystic acne in his teenage years. We went to a bunch of dermatologists who surprisingly didn't improve his skin and we just ended up spending thousands of dollars with all these peels, toners, and treatments. He just ended up with scars. They should've just given him oral meds. Wish we had more helpful dermatologists like you back then. He eventually outgrew his acne but he's living with the scars. What a shame.

Has he tried cerave's resurfacing retinol serum? It's worked wonders on my acne scars

Dr. Sheree, please do a skincare routine/recommendation for the neck to address crepey neck, lines and loose skin. I tried retinoid and I think I developed more lines. Also, how to deal with the marionette lines? Is lying on your side really makes it worst? Please help. Thank you!

For me those pimple patches help. When I put it on top of the pimple I cannot pick it

I know all this and personally it means nothing if I make poor dietary choices and stop exercising or stress too much; in order to have good skin I need unfailing discipline.

Oh and I had a terrible reaction to one of those microneedle patches. The bump got bigger, very red and was suppurating and so sore. The CosRx ones are ok but if there are several lesions close together, I've found a Compeed blister plaster covering them all is more effective at night.

Can you please do a video comparing cleansing brushes? Like Crarisonic vs Michaell Todd vs Foreo vs PMD?
