what keeps me from crying and being so sad is just watching him in his prime. I refuse to watch Ali post parkinsons diagnosis. Life is nothing. We all get old and eventually leave this earth, even The Greatest of All Time. Btw I do not represent myself by my skin tone, we are all one.

I'm 59 too Mate. i suppose you'd be going on 61 now, I did grow up in Coonamble NSW but I moved to Brisbane in 91 my friend..We were never wealthy but, Dad bought us kids the 2nd color tv in 75 in town,, I saw Ali beat foreman in 74 in black and white and, watched him defeat Frazier in 75 I think it was in color, As you'd no doubt remember both fights were the most televised Events ever, in the world at the time. In the Foreman fight by the 2nd round Dad said Ali's going to win this Pete!! Foreman isn't hurting him at all, And by the 4th he said I'd definitely rather have backed Ali as brutal as big George is!! He's been beating him in the middle of the ring, AND everywhere else!! I'd say he's letting Foreman punch himself out!! Which was unusual for poor old Dad, as he normally didn't pick winners in any sport for example Rugby league, plus he just didn't say much about anything when he got the chance to watch tv because he was working 95 PC of the time, it's nice to have a yarn to somebody else in Australia too Mate, Ali was the goat in my humble opinion and there'll never be another boxer like him, All the very best to u and Your loved ones mate, I cried when him, Elvis and Slim Dusty died too, Kind regards Pete.

@@mwain66 You're right. In my country, which is on the other side of globe from USA, where Ali's evening matches were always being broadcasted live in the morning time in here, every activities, offices, school, market,.. everything,.. were always 'officially' stopped, to give chance for people to watch Ali's match live on TV. Street were empty, all,.. market, building too, except where there was TV sets which always crowded by people watching. Soon after Ali's matches were over, all back to normal, and everyone, I mean, everyone, man, woman, old or young, would talk about Ali for days or weeks. Crazy! Ali is too kind and merciful as a boxer. He did same while fighting Ron Lyle, Buster Martis and I think Jimmy Lewis. Most other heavyweight boxers just wants to 'kill' their opponents. Especially my second all time favorite like Mike Tyson and recently, Deontay Wilder(who is the current 'beast and bully') Anthony Joshua is my number 1 favorite though, but he's got to watch out for Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury and adapt his style to edge those guys(He won't be able to avoid them if he truly wants to be in the ilk of Ali, Foreman, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson) George Foreman(at 24 years here) was an absolute beast and bully at this time. I like him because he instils fear but I love, respect and idolize Mohammad Ali because he is fearless, tough(endurance) self reinventing and he is so much fun to watch and listen to. He is just an enigma. He is the G.O.A.T.

I am bewildered to see some people commenting that Ali was not that good and that he fought only amateurs. I am sure they would not have seen the fights like Ali-Joe Frazier III, Ali-George Foreman, Ali-Sonny Liston (both the fights). There is no meaning in comparing champions of one time with the champions of some other period. Can we compare Ali with Jack Dempsey or Mike Tyson with Rocky Marciano. Rules, styles, strategies, technological advancements, training equipment vary from time to time. But, there cannot be a second opinion over the fact that it was Ali was who brought incredible fame and name to Boxing. He made Boxing much more familiar all over the world, even in countries where Boxing was not at all heard of. Ali is the root cause for the present boxers making money in millions. Only because of him, persons like me here in India got attracted to Boxing. I am nearing sixty now, and in my teen age Ali was an idol not only for boxing fans like me, but he was an idol for all the sport lovers. Present generation might not be aware how popular Ali was and how the whole sports fraternity was craze after him. All said and done it is an undisputed fact that .Ali still stands as the Icon of Boxing. I wish Ali live long.
@buckfan19699 жыл бұрын
Well said! At one time Ali was probably the most famous person in the entire world. People who weren't around in the 60's can't understand what he meant to people everywhere. Here in the United States, he was not only a boxing icon, he was an icon for political courage during the Vietnam era for millions of people my age. I was a fan since before the first Liston fight in 1964, but I admired him even more for his courage in standing up to the government and risking everything for his principles. So great to hear from someone from the other side of the world who feels the same about Ali; nothing could validate Ali's legacy better than hearing from you on this.

I have to disagree with the ranking of Ali's fights here. The first Liston fight was, imho, Ali's greatest fight. Many say it was the Cleveland Williams fight, but Williams had been shot by a cop a few months before the fight and wasn't the same fighter that went toe to toe with Liston in his prime. When Ali fought Liston the first time he was at his absolute best. Liston was a devastating puncher who had intimidated every other fighter in the division, and who twice knocked out champion Floyd Patterson in 2 minutes of the first round. Lightning fast reflexes, the great left jab, the footspeed that kept Liston from cornering him; and of course the courage to face Liston blind in the 5th round; still maybe the greatest round any fighter ever fought. We saw everything Ali had to offer that night. Ali-Foreman was Ali's greatest moment, but Ali-Liston 1 was Ali's greatest performance.
@bsheakh8 жыл бұрын
+buckfan1969 I agree... the fact that Liston refused to compete with him after the 6th showed you he knew he was never had a hope of winning that night or any night. That doesn't matter cause if you see the Ali -Liston 1 and Ali - Liston 2 , Ali has total control over his opponent and even though (with your logic) Ali couldn't KO Liston he was surely going to win the fight . Also Liston wasn't able of KO Ali cause Foreman and Shavers weren't neither. Thank you for your video.

There were a lot of great fighters throughout history. Ali was one of them but what made Ali special and stood out is that he had the whole world watching. Loved him or hated him but the world watched, especially during his prime time. The streets in most parts of the world were deserted when he fights. Not even the soccer world cup finals came that close. Ali did say, when I am gone, you will still have that bowler hat fans watching fights but not citizens on the streets. Ali was what to sports as MJ was to entertainment. Perhaps not. No offence to MJ fans, I am a fan of MJ too but the streets were never deserted for MJ. To you young folks, it maybe hard to comprehend but imagine the streets on a cold or rainy Sunday early morning. It was like that for 30 minutes whenever Ali fights.
