As a man who read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings masterpiece, I can say that Andy Serkies portraial of Gollum is like taken out of the book! Gollum and Serkis are one! You can't read the book without imagening Serkis when Gollum is in the chapters you read! Is like Tolkien said " Ok, I'm going to create a character that can only be portraied by Serkis so perfectly that people would think that he created the character and not me (J.R. Tolkien)"

Hmmm I think they gave Gollum #1 because that was his breakout role. Dont get me wrong, Serkis' Gollum/Smeagol is one of the most iconic characters put to the big screen. it's pretty amazing how in the old days us Brits used to think the Americans were the great actors (Brando, Dr Niro, etc), but since the turn of he century it's the Brits by a MILE (Day Lewis, Hopkins, Cumpatch, etc). Viktor Ceder well it was just Serkis speaking and with little to no action done, so there was definitely a reason why it did not reach to the 10-5 spot, unlike both in his Smeagol and Caesar acts, which required motion capture, as well as voice-acting. Just wait for the release of future Star Wars episodes, where Snoke might be seen in action and more of Serkis' motion-capture acting skills.

I think one thing everyone can agree with is that Andy Serkis is a genius. That's a universal absolute truth.

With the Lord of the Rings series, Serkis had novels and other adaptations to draw inspiration from. And on top of that, the character changes very little over the course of all six movies of the Middle Earth franchise. However, over the course of one film, we see Caesar change realistically more than in any of the Middle Earth films. And in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, he has a wife and two children that he's trying to teach and be a loving family man for, something alot more people can relate to. In short, Gollum is really great, but it doesn't even come close to what Serkis does for Caesar, so Caesar should easily be #1.

In movies like Jack and Jill, everyone knows that multiple characters are played by one actor, it's the whole gimick. Here, it isn't used as a gimmick, and Serkis really pulls it off.
