I love living in Monroeville. Sure, it's past its prime, and driving on parkway east during rush hour sucks (fortunately, I don't work in the city), but it's so convenient and affordable compared to the places you listed. Two major hospitals, dozens of doctors' offices, many ethnic locally owned restaurants (particularly Indian, Italian and Chinese), Boyce Park, going to Kennywood isn't a journey, and the infamous intersection gives you access to major highways: the parkway, 22, 48, and the turnpike. The crime has increased in some areas, but it's usually either in seedy areas you can't mistake or in the mall by people out-of-town looking for trouble. I personally never feel unsafe here, even at the mall.

It’s just like anything else. It all depends on what you want and how much you want to pay. There are so many nice Pittsburgh suburbs. If I were moving to Pittsburgh without a target neighborhood, I’d have a hard time picking one.

Mt. Lebanon is loads better than mccandless and hampton. Mcknight road and route 8 shopping areas are nothing special, just traffic nightmares with big box stores. These places look like every other suburb in the area or in the US for that matter. Mt. Lebanon has its own unique style with its nice "downtown", pretty much can walk anywhere, and the unique housing that I wish other suburbs would at least try to emulate or even better try their own thing.

Angell Cuevas, I moved from So. Cal to Pittsburgh 15 years ago. It is less expensive, but be prepared for gloomy weather most of the year and garbage roadways; not just condition, but design.

@@REDEYE920, I don't regret moving here on a couple of fronts.. One is the fact that I was able to get into real estate at a very reasonable price. Even in light of the escalation of home prices around the country, Pittsburgh is still very affordable. The second is that there are a lot of beautiful natural surroundings out here, i.e., green wooded forests and lots of water features. That said I have been here 15 years and have been planning my move out West again for several years. The gloomy days are simply intolerable. Though numbers vary, the general consensus is that we get less than 100 days of sunshine a year.
