Can do short touring trips , commutes easily , upright riding position , larger fuel tank , does well in the twisties , quarter in less than 12 secs , and 0-60 under 3.5 . Best bike on the list imo , that never really got the cred it deserved.

Yammie, I approve of your choice to include the Blast. My first and to date only bike is a 2004 Buell Blast. Bought it for $800. Been riding it for about 18 months. It has been reliable. Underrated bike - with better tires they handle really well. The stock dunlop tires are garbage. big single gives good torque off the line, good city bike. Clutch engagement point is narrow, takes getting used to. Brakes are good. Dead simple to work on - if you can fix a lawnmower, you can fix a buell blast. They are great for a new rider who wants to learn how to ride and wrench. Also, there is a great online community around them and buells in general.

In my last year of college, saved up all summer and got myself a V-star 650 for $1800 as my first bike. I couldn't be happier with my choice! 18K miles, highway bars, footboards, sissy bar backrest & rack, hard saddlebags, the works. I weigh about 125 pounds soaking wet, and this weighs about an even 500. That said, even when I drop it, I can manage to pick it back up, dust myself off, and get back to riding. Can't wait to take it camping once it cools down, s/o to Yam for inspiring me to take the plunge and find my newest passion!

I generally find that people who “wouldn’t be caught dead” on a small displacement bike never learned how to corner properly and only care about going fast in a straight line. Not that smacking the throttle wide and going like a bat out of hell isn’t fun, it’s just that there’s so much more to riding than just a drag strip. Dragging a knee on the ground at double the recommended speed for a corner is more fun to me. I used to kick big sportbike’s asses in the twistys on my ninja 300. It’s great when you can actually use all your power and not get arrested.
@joseamaya26972 жыл бұрын
I keep looking at lower displacement bikes, but I don’t know if I’m humble enough. I’ve been looking at 250s, 300s, 400s, and even a ninja 500. I get what your saying about cornering because I did that with an old sv650 I had, and it was fun.
@Indarow2 жыл бұрын
@@joseamaya2697 you could always check out the R7 if you don’t want to lose ALL your power. Similar power to an SV, more committed riding position though. I had a Ninja 300 that I absolutely LOVED. Topped out at only 116mph, but was able to pin it through almost every corner.

Ok this video is one I like from you. It's informative enough and gave enough "background" info on the bikes. I was hoping a vstar was on the list because I really like them. I remember when they came out, I wasnt a motorcylist then but the vstar commercials sold me too many years before I wanted a bike. Took an msf course and got my motorcycle license, now that seems like the cruiser I want, even over most harleys. A custom vstar 1300 is my dream cruiser atm. Also if yammie reads this, your history type videos on bikes or nerding out on bikes, please give way more info on the bikes you talk about. People like me want to hear every single tiny detail possible. Ex. History of yamaha bikes you did was very very low in details/background and short as hell. I'll watch a 20min video of it has a bunch of info about the topic. I'm sure others agree.

I can confirm the resell value on older sv650s. I got one from 2007 for just under 3 grand as my first bike two years ago. Loved the thing. After a year of riding I decided I wanted to do some touring so I sold it for a couple hundred more than I bought it for and picked up a vstrom 650. As a beginner it can be great to buy older as the bike has already depreciated as much as it will so if it doesn't work out or you want something else you can just sell it for the same price and just be out the price of insurance.

Old Japanese bikes are plentiful and cheap and even high mileage ones are usually good for a few years if they've been looked after at all. When I was getting back into riding after retirement I wanted 750cc's or more and because I'm fairly tall thought a 750 might even feel a bit small. I live in Southern Ontario so bikes here are only seasonal and for the year maybe have less miles on the odometer. There seemed to be multitudes of 600, 750, and even a few 1100 Katana's available. My choice was a '88 1,100 Katana that had 112,000 Km, and yet was in nice shape. It had new tires, new sprockets and chain and the forks had been recently rebuilt. On top of that it had factory hard case luggage, and was within 5 km of where I live. It needed a tune up and carbs redone since it had sat for a bit, but the price? $1,900.00 CDN plus tax, plus the price of a tune up, .. so really for less than $2,000.00 US, which isn't bad for a 1,100cc sport tourer that has more power than I'll ever fully use.

But Blamby Boob, where's the KLR650? It makes me a sad boy that there was only one ADV bike mentioned and a Suzuki at that :(

Agreed, I got my ‘97 for $500 with only 1500 miles. Needed a bit of work, but it’s been a fun machine.

Also Kawasaki z1000. I got a 2003 for 3k years ago and it was a great bike. 636 front end and uprated shock and it'll ride like a dream;)

Great list Yammie (as per usual) :) . May I throw in something similar to the Fz6? Suzuki Bandit 650 (s). 84 HP fuel injected and a great sport touring bike :). It's the same bike I have and I got it for $3300 CAD so, I assume it would be under $3k in the US haha.

Hyosungs can be a hit or miss. Comets 125-650 are notorious for electrical problems and it's really like playing Russian roulette especially with the older, early 2000's-2010 bikes. Some people have no problems what so ever, others, like myself have EVERYTHING going wrong with their bike. right now I have a 125 comet sitting around useless with: faulty ignition, carbs out of sync, faulty neutral indicator, etc. and some parts can be hard to come by. Then again it might run like a dream without any issues. But do you want to take the chance? ;)

DRZ, DRZ, aaaaand DRZ 400SM! (My next bike after this starter 250cc, can’t whait for next season)
@hp45465 жыл бұрын
We have the DRZ400E road reg down in the land of the free. Just point and go, doesnt matter if it is dirt, gravel, track or tarmac you can go there. You will love it. It's not the fastest road bike for its cc, not the lightest dirt bike but a total compromise of the both and long service intervals

Bought a 400sm this year as my starter bike. I ride it on city streets, country twisties, and dirt trails. The thing is beast. So much fun!
@srdjanmatic70995 жыл бұрын
H P i think that its just enough, 400cc and with some light mods it can go 55-60hp witch is more than enough for street and offroad (i don’t plan to go like these sportbike riders 250km/h+ that is no fun only deathwish). Its perfect for what i need it to be, and i would probably keep it when i buy it
@srdjanmatic70995 жыл бұрын
CJ Egg I still didn’t had chance to ride it, but i hope its fun as everyone is saying. Plan to sell this guy and get 400sm and to keep it forever, just mods on and perfect bike for everything (it can go highway up to 110km/h easily it can probably more but i think for that speed it would go efortlessly, its good for street and have enough power for every single task its given, hell even can pull power wheelies as i saw, and it can go some soft off road)
