I'm glad Sonic Adventure is in the honorable mentions; and not every 3D Sonic game after the Sonic Adventure titles are bad, a lot of them are really good, like Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed (well, at least we can all agree that the day stages are amazing!), Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generations (despite being too short). In fact the majority of the worst Sonic games are in 2D, yes I know that 3D games like Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, and the Sonic Boom games are considered the worst, but the majority of bad Sonic games are -believe it or not - in 2D

If I fought Sora. I'd just get him to jump and hit him in his super exposed balls. Hell, I could probably reach them directly while he jump with those loose shorts of his. (I enjoyed KH 1, just hate how he jumps to the point of visibly noticeably annoyance)

Star Fox also started off as a 2d game on Super Nintendo. It wasn't a sidescroller, but it used 2d graphics made of 3d renders. It gave the illusion of 3d, but was technically 2d.

I still remember the good old days of 2D GTA. Don't get me wrong, the 3D variants are great, but I have special memories of GTA 2. That was the first mature rated game I ever owned. It took me months of begging my parents and probably exacerbating them to convince them to buy it for me. Unfortunately, when GTA 3 came out, I never was able to convince them to let me buy it. I guess it was just too real for them lol. And the multiplayer was so fun. I would rig nice cars with remote bombs and lure my friends into carjack me. Haha, good times.

+TCG Kyle Pokemon X and Y's change to 3D is almost purely visual - it has no effect on the gameplay, it's still tile-based overworld movement and turn-based battles within menus. It's still an impressive leap given how many Pokemon had to be 3D modeled, but I don't think it has *that* much of an actual impact on the series.

Okay, so one game generated a billion dollars in profit. That doesn't negate the billions of dollars that Mario has generated for Nintendo over the past 25+ years. If you really want to go down that route, Mario as a whole has earned way more profit. Doesn't matter what time he earned it in. There's no way that you can try to argue that GTA, with only 15 entries, is a bigger franchise than Mario, a franchise that has had over 100 games. To do so just reeks of bias, not logic or facts. Mario has more games under his belt and has earned more money than GTA will ever earn. He's literally a household name, 9 out of every 10 people will know who he is, either by name, or appearance. GTA, as good as the games are, will never achieve that type of iconic status.

+Ruaridh McGurk I first played SA back in the early Dreamcast days, and I still think it's one of the best games for that system (and still own it, too). But I went back and played the game a few months ago (SADX for the PC); played and beat all seven parts of the main story, too. And truth to tell, while the graphics still look decent, the camera and some of the deadly precise maneuvers you have to pull off (Sonic's final battle with Eggman (Robotnik) being especially annoying) really dates the game for me. I would not mind this game being rereleased with tighter controls, beefed up visuals and a fixed camera...I would buy that in a heartbeat. But as it is right now, it just hasn't aged well at all.

The whole time while watching this I was thinking, "Mario 64 better be on this list!" and it eventually was at #1. That game alone showed the whole industry why analog controls were a MUST for 3D gaming.

No game could top the transition of Super Mario World to Super Mario 64. The video game world changed when that game came out and everybody sat up in attention.

Pokemon. Like those original games where you play as a trainer and travel all over the region to catch pokemon and defeat the league. Their change from 2D to 3D worked so well. They at least deserved some spot on the honorable mentions. More than Sonic.

I think the game you can never forget playing for the first time is Super Mario 64. Even though Sonic Adventure was the first game I've ever played, Super Mario 64 was the most influential to me. For example, if somebody goes to you and asks you years later to play Sonic Adventure, you think about it. If someone does to the same to you but with Super Mario 64, you play it without saying yes or no. That's how influential it is, you just play it without hesitation. I wish games today were like that.

Prince of Persia? It was a very good and well known 2d game in the early 90's and the jump to 3d in early 2000's was another major hit. So a game that thrived in 2d era and 3d era as well. Much like GTA, and warcraft.

Rezz It's not about the quality of the game (although the top 4 are some of the highest quality games to be created so far, well not GTA 3 really but it was immediately improved upon), it's about the impact and transition which pretty much everything above FallOut had much more of.
