I saw somewhere that Britney in the past year (probably in one of her many deleted instagram posts) admitted that she likes the episode about her now as she finally understands that Matt and Trey were sticking up for her (she thought at the time that they, like everyone else, were making fun of her).

Understandable, when you see someone depict you ending yourself and your body being brutally desecrated the first instinct isn't "These people are supporting me". Very easy to be shocked and not realize the episode has a constructive message considering it shows it's message in such a disturbing twisted way, it dials up the extreme cruelty and mean spiritedness up to 11 and is incredibly uncomfortable even when you understand that it's doing so to show a point.

Dawkins falls in love with Garrison who is obviously biologically male, but doesn't realize that until Cartman tells him. Maybe that's because I've seen the gag of a character falling for stupid disguises or otherwise not noticing the obvious. There wasn't even any setup for the joke. Maybe if they made it seem like Dawkins knew the truth about Garrison at the beginning, only to subvert our expectations, maybe then I would've laughed. Tbf, the times Garrison was called beautiful were pretty funny. Also, was Garrison corrupting Dawkins a joke? 20:54 Evolution is a theory, rather than a hypothesis, We often use "Theory" the way one would use "Hypothesis", "Hypothesis" is based on limited evidence and is something proposed in order to look at more deeply and get interest/resources to test and explore the ideas until it's more substantiated, or proven, if it can be. Theory means sets of evidence, arranged into a system to explain a concept, usually through evidence and data that point to the process or thing, rather than direct provable evidence. We can't practice evolution for 40,000 years, but we can observe selective breeding as well as find fossil evidence and other such things where we observe extinctions/survival and adaptation and how things changed over time, therefore, it's a theory because we find all the evidence for it, but don't directly replicate the evidence in an experiment. Same deal as the theory of gravity, we could observe it's effects and a lot of other things related to it, and then there was the Theory of relativity which expanded on it, both of which are accepted as scientifically sound, reliable, and measurable, just, we measure and use evidence around the concept rather than direct usage of the concept. So, it's a "Theory" but there's also measurable evidence and it's easy enough to see how, when and where it all fits together to create our system of understanding the concept of evolution.

I get where Kim Kardashian is coming from when South Park roasted the hell out of her in The Hobbit. But she missed the point. Butters practically worshiped an idealized version of Kim post-Photoshop, scorning Lisa because of his impossible beauty standards. This leads to a trend where all the girls in South Park Elementary start using Photoshop religiously to create idealized but ultimately fake versions of themselves. And at the end, Wendy gives into the peer pressure that she's been resisting the whole episode, and does a 'shop of herself, too. The message is that technology creates unrealistic standards of beauty that girls must aspire to in order to find a partner, and young men are too naive to realize that photos no longer simply capture the truth, and the girls in those photos aren't perfect like they think. Kim just happened to be famous and praised for her beauty at the time, making her the ideal target to set up the message. Richard Dawkins is an idiot if he doesn't see the point South Park was making. Even if we got rid of all religion, we'd still find something to fight over. Because we always have, and likely we always will. And usually, it's over something stupid (like the name of the unified atheist society of the future). Religion isn't the problem, it's simply one of a million excuses. Shit, Dawkins himself is almost irrelevant in the episode; he's basically just there because he's a well-known and (at the time, not sure anymore) respected voice for atheism. If Matt and Trey could have come up with some other famous atheist everyone had heard about, they might have chosen that person instead.

The ignorance of people's weight (especially towards a woman) was so blatant and unchallenged and still is. They're expecting a then 50 year old mother to just "put down the twinkies." I don't understand how a woman can go through something that can completely alter how their body functions and looks while people judge her weight gain. You really have these men in their mid 20s commenting on a person's looks who was about twice their age and have gone through hormonal changes that they won't ever experience. I mean, the woman is still kicking today in her mid-70s. Obviously, her weight didn't equal how healthy she was.

Thank you. I usually love South Park and the points they make, but this bugged me a bit. All she ever did wrong was ‘being fat.’ How does that diminish her efforts to help starving children? Eating less isn’t going to help them. The food waste in western countries is insane. Nobody is eating enough to take away from starving Africans.
@_-Lx-_ Жыл бұрын
Yeah, one of the sourest moments from Matt and Trey easily, they were wholeheartedly in the wrong then. Like, it's one thing making a offensive satirical show that takes jabs at everyone, but it's an entirely different thing to double down like that on a woman that had never done anything wrong, was actively helping people, was a fan of your show, and had felt very hurt and offended by the way she was shown too. Like, on top of all that, I'm pretty sure she was THE very first celebrity to ever be shown on the series, she was before even Barbara, so there was no precedent whatsoever for real people to be targeted and mocked in it yet, and I can only imagine how crushing it must've been to see a series you were enjoying treat you like that out of nowhere and mock you for helping 3rd world countries, just because you're chubby, and their "appology" was doubling down and blaming you for it, and doing another episode calling you an evil hideous freak blob by comparing you to Jabba. Matt and Trey normally have pretty good commentary on things, but they were complete scumbags with how they treated her as a whole and never really changed about that at all.

I just remember Sally Struthers is the legendary Babette on Gilmore Girls. My obvious bias aside, I kind of get why she was hurt by this portrayal. Like yes, I see Trey and Matt's point about the irony but idk, I prefer it when they don't take aim at people who haven't really hurt anyone. But that's just me and they're within their rights to be equal opportunity to everyone in terms of who they make fun. I just think I can sympathise with her a little more than the Kardashians or Megan and Harry. Also yeah Steve Irwin was definitely a timing problem. Like, the joke in itself is absolutely fine but like my dad died a few years back. If I was famous and weeks later I saw him on tv, depicted in hell, carrying around his oxygen tank, I'd be pretty fucking upset too.

wasnt panic and he isnt prejudiced. in either the show or real life. in the show, he just isnt attracted to trans women. thats fine. in IRL, he sees the power the trans community has and abuses nowadays, so he is calling it out. and to demonstrate this, if any group of people claim they are oppressed and are able to voice it, and make demands to political and corpoerate entities, and more often than not get it, you are not oppressed.

The big point of contention with the Tom Cruise episode wasn't the scientology aspect, though it was a big part, it was the fact they wanted to do the joke of Tom Cruise being closested because homosexuality is not allowed in scientology. The only way they were able to get away with the jokes was to make them literal, by having him in the closet physically, and later joined by Travolta who has also been speculated as being closeted. This was repeated in the 200 episode with the job in the candy factory. Stone and Parker don't like being told they cannot do something because of censorship or offending people, and they find the loopholes to do so. I remember digging into this while it was happening and felt it was important to point it out.
