Need to add the Latitude 64 Pure down here in the comment section. Truly one of the best discs out on the market. It comes in a WIDE variety of plastics, is great as a putting putter and an excellent throwing/driving putter. Can always find them at local retailers and online. It is a mold that has been in production for 12+ years and doesn't look to be leaving anytime soon as well. Retro, Eco and Zero Line tend to beat in a little quicker than the premium lines such as Gold and Opto. Over the years they have come out with several different blends of Zero, Gold and Opto and have just recently started releasing discs in the "Ice" line(i.e. Gold-ICE, Opto-ICE), I can see the Pure being a mold with one of these plastic blends in the near future.

Diamond is the best beginner/intermediate disc. After a few good tree hit it's very understable. it's the first disc I learned to hyzer flip. It's 2 years later a disc that I love because it's just so easy to throw, you can power down with it and it will glide super far, you can throw it high on a hyzer and it will still turn flat. It's a disc that basically is just free distance for a beginner, and is a cool utility disc when you're a bit more experienced. Love it for steeper uphills or just very narrow gaps. The only gripe I have with it, it doesn't come in glow, and now in the north when the sun is setting earlier and earlier, I prefer to only have glow in my bag, especially for drivers.

I can not and have never been able to throw the diamond, it's just far too understable. I haven't tried the max weight runs of it so those might be ok, but the usual 160(ish) gram ones just crash and burn for me. I think it's easy to just recommend the most understable shit to beginners because for most beginners that's probably gonna net the most distance, but for someone like me who came from an athletic background having played handball for over a decade I could never use a disc like the diamond... My (now) ex had one and I tried throwing it a couple times, but yeah, didn't work out that well.

Maybe you have off axis torque in your throws, maybe you don't put enough spin on it, maybe you're trying to push it too hard, maybe you've thrown a lighter disc into headwinds too strong for it. Plain and simple, just because you haven't found the right use for it, doesn't mean it's shit. There's a bunch of potential reasons why it's not working out for you, but you being too good for the disc is not one of them, if anything that just means you lack finesse.

@@Kriss_941 I still disagree with you on that front. If anything I'd say if a beginner already can throw far then they should step down to throwing mids and putters and work on accuracy. Someone who can throw far with little accuracy is dangerous. And if you out of the gate can throw a teebird 300 foot straight with good accuracy, well then you're not really a beginner then. If you're that naturally gifted you're just a savant, and then I'd argue beginners tips do not apply. But for actual beginners, like the people struggling to reach 200 foot I'd certainly say it's a great disc. But even if someone is a savant who can bomb 300 foot on their first throws, I'd still argue it's a useful disc for learning to power down and take it more chill.

@@ohmgstav I mean, if you can throw say 250 feet within say week one of starting to play (which is honestly very doable for more athletic people with some experience in sports with skills that can be transferred) then a disc like the diamond won't reallly be that useful, for a player like that I'd much rather recommend a driver like a leopard, valkyrie, maybe an F5. something that is quite understable which they can learn to manipulate the angles with, but still has enough stability to hold up against the armspeed. Yes, throwing putters and mids, might be the most optimal choice for beginners when it comes to learning technique (and hey, that's not a diamond) but I think you also need to keep the fun aspect in mind as well. It's fun to walk up to a long hole and rip it, I will hardly ever play "smart" or "optimal" when playing, unless it's an actual competition because I enjoy ripping it and going big over just playing the smart line which is safe. And I think there is something to be said for keeping it fun. Keeping it fun can also benefit your game in a way through allowing you to throw throws and lines that you'd otherwise never practice. Like if I didn't yeet my discs out of the fairways and into suboptimal positions so much my scramble game wouldn't be as strong as it is. I would never have thrown skamahawks, grenades and thumbers, so those throws wouldn't even be in my arsenal. And this isn't to say that I just full send all over with no accuracy, but it's more that I will rather go big for a very faint eagle chance than play position for a safe birdie if that makes sense. Also I think that even if you're throwing 250' after a week of playing, you're still very much a beginner. Atleast in my eyes being a beginner is tied to how long you've been playing, not your skill. And I may have a little skewed perspective with this shit, I come from an athletic family, all children started playing sports by the age of 6, I started playing organized soccer at the age of 4, me and all my siblings have competed at a pretty high level in handball, and there are alot of things and skills in handball which can be transferred into discgolf. The whole run-up, generating power through your legs and hips, the idea of using your arm as a whip, timing. Sure the throwing motion is different, the run-up is different but alot of the key concepts are the same and you know how it's supposed to feel and work.

Westside Underworld as a first fairway or Discmania Genius. Midranges are so many to choose from but I really love Berry from Clash Discs and Hex from Axiom. M4 from Prodigy and Tursas from Westside is also two really good beginner Midranges in my opinion. The new A4 from Prodigy is an approach disc but works godlike as a putter for me. Otherwise my nr 1 putter is Spin from MVP.

Essence is from my expiriences more stable than "-2 super understable". I can throw with it almost 100 meters still with very small turn. like -0,5 or -1. I should give it probably -1. Still great disc, but not for beginners. For me its super versitale but i play more than 3 years. And when it was new, it was almost my overstable disc! I really like F7 as my understable disc, with looong turn without any fade but also cut roll for about 80 meters. Thats great beginner friendly disc. And now im using Essence for about 2 months, still understable just slightly.

Axiom insanity is my favorite disk, a 9 speed stable driver that you can shot shape with. I played a lot in my 20s but I'm just getting back in to disc golf 10 years later, so I'm a born again beginner.

Wouldn't the insanity and virus both be understandable? -3.5 and -3 turns. I just picked up the virus. I threw one of my best lines with the insanity today. It did exactly what the numbers said it should. I've only started playing about a month ago. I've still got a whole lot to figure out. Most of my discs are understable. I plan to go pick up a few overstable disks to start throwing around and seeing how they throw.

@traviswhitworth6506 yeah don't be afraid of overstable disc, you just have to put some anhyzer on it. Try the Terra and/or the Tesla. You'll get that S turn easier throwing overstable with anhyzer. If you're not yet familiar with hyzer, flat, and anhyzer, there are hundreds of videos on the topic. Overstable disc can also handle the toque of a forehand better.

Proxy in Eclipse is so good. Prefect compliment for the Envy. I think other good discs are the Star Teebird, Axiom Crave, Streamline Drift, Discraft Heat, Discmania Essence to name a few. Basically anything that is stable to slightly understable. Heck even the overstable 4 speeds like the Zone are money once you know the flight pattern as they are so reliable. I think you need to buy a Star Rat and play a round with it. My son bought one and that thing is surprisingly so good.

I'm late and I've only been playing for about a year now, and I've probably only thrown around 40 or 50 different molds at this point...but there are a couple of discs that really pushed my game forward that I have to put here. Buzzz SS...y'all nailed that one. I'd also add that it grows with you very well as you gain power and distance, while being forgiving when you're a beginner. Discmania Sensei *in premium plastic* is my throwing putter, one disc round choice. I haven't thrown a Proxy but if y'all haven't thrown the Sensei in premium plastic yet, it flies and feels a lot different than the regular plastic, it fights the wind like a champ and fights torque better than any other putter I've thrown. Innova Leopard in champion plastic was the first disc I got "full flight" hyzer flips with. My beginner DX Leopard beat in too fast and couldn't fight out of a turn anymore as I got faster (and I had no idea what was happening), but the champion Leopard does exactly what I want it to do and like the Buzzz, it has grown with me into the 300 feet range. MVP Terra was my first overmold disc and my first highly overstable disc, completely by accident. It was on sale so I bought it. I haven't thrown a Firebird yet but from the numbers and what people say about it, the Terra does that same thing but in gyro. I learned sidearm, anhyzer flip, and hyzer throws with it, and found out I like overmolds. My putting putter is a Gateway Hemp Wizard, I recommend the Wizard to beginners because Gateway has so many plastic options where you can learn what you like in terms of softness and plastic feel on the same mold.

I picked up a MVP Glitch the other day. It flies just the way I thought disc golf discs were supposed to fly when I first started playing. I'm having tons of fun throwing this disc and would recommend it to anyone beginning the game. For anyone who is used to throwing a standard frisbee, I think this disc would be a good starting point for throwing disc golf discs.

The 3 variables are you, the disc, and the wind. When you are starting out, you are going to be very inconsistent, but disc selection can help. Base plastic can beat in so fast that it could be a totally different disc after one round. Premium plastic will beat in slow and be more consistent throw to throw. Light weight discs are more affected by wind, whereas a max weight disc will still be affected by wind, just not as much. So, 175-6g Champion Mako 3 ftw. It will start out over-stable, but as it beats in and as your skill develops, it will get straighter and straighter and never leave your bag. If you can find one in a used bin that's already seasoned that would be great, because then you could pair it up with a new one and learn the difference between a new disc and a seasoned disc.

Overstable midrange with tons of glide and a straight shooter that gives so much feed back on how your throw is which allows for tons of shaping and learning your own game. The Roc is the truth. Also it beats in overtime (gets flippier, more glide) as well so another great disc you can grow with.

Im not certain that specidic disk selection is as important as telling begnners to stay at speed 7 and below and to use light weight discs. I do love the Mako3 and Buzz SS recommendations, but 150g class at the highest. I would also recommend a Proxy or a Fierce, a Paradox, and a Armadillo or Aviar.
