One note, he mentioned you can go 35 or so mph in low range. However, you are at risk of overheating the t-case, and any harsh impacts at that speed can shatter the planetary gears that are used in most aluminum t-cases. If you need to go over 10-15mph for any length of time, just shift into high.

Wait... what? First, Capa is too lazy to air down? Then in the next breath he says "...the more traction you can create the less likely you are to have wheel hop..."??? Later he says that wheel hop can contribute to breaking "things." This is true. Okay, I get it - airing down DOES have its pros and cons. One "con" that Cappa mentions is loss of "some" clearance by airing down. True. However, THIS piece is for NEWBIES. We trainers work VERY hard to get newbies to take the time to air down their tires for added traction. We want newbies to air down at least a bit, for added traction - which enhances on-trail control and adds safety. The small loss of clearance when airing down is secondary to the increase one gets in traction. Tip #8 - Using 4-Low is a great one. Well done, as NEWBIES don't use 4-Low enough in my opinion. However, back to airing down. 4-Low puts more torque to the trail, but physics tells us "there's no torque without resistance" (traction at the tires). So, again, why NOT air down a bit for added traction - providing even more torque in 4-Low. Mostly a good video; nice job.

DYNABIKE1 auto is better for beginners. There is less going on. With the manual most have 3 pedals, but you still only have 2 feet. Manuals get better mpg, less prone to overheating, and are usually stronger. But be careful, I'd you do not know how to drive a manual you can destroy a clutch

Is manual better than auto or does it matter nowadays for off-roading and overlanding?
@donaldweber76368 жыл бұрын
+Tony Dunne personnel preference. Autos make some things easier. I prefer the challenge of driving a manual and manuals are more reliable. Autos have the advantage going uphill. Manuals have the advantage going downhill.
@kevinhenson52258 жыл бұрын
+Tony Dunne Auto is generally used in caged buggies meant for technical rock crawling. While manual can handle better going down steep hills because of its engine braking, newer automatics have hill descent and a bunch of other gizmos to make it easier. Stalling on uphills can be very dangerous in manuals. In mud it really doesnt matter unless you try to manually shift while in a puddle and lose to much momentum. The nice thing about manuals is they are simpler, can be more reliable on the trail, and when you break things (you will break things) they are cheaper to fix. Also, manual adds some extra challenge and and skill to offroading. As Donald said it is really about preference. I prefer simple mechanics so I drive an old Suzuki samurai. Manual, carburetor, no power steering, minimal electrical, no ac, no air bags. A lot less to worry about breaking. As for overlanding it wont matter much as this usually has a lot more mileage and less technical offroading. You will want less extreme tires (probably all terrains), more space (a long wheel base), and something comfortable.

I love these videos. This one is no exception. One tiny criticism? You cant always pick your terrain! Why make statements in these videos like "You want to avoid situations like this" Nit picking over with...... Should I ever reach a situation where I can try climb a certain rock or avoid it This is the advice to take! Great video
@fordfiveohh3 жыл бұрын
People don't realize that both airing down and disconnecting your sway bar can cause a reduction in clearance.... Sway bar is an extra spring... Makes you stiffer , less spring compresion but ONLY on turns or uneven surfaces... Ok... When are you not uneven and not turning on off road.... The whole time.... Unless you're going to tip over from picking a tire up too high instead of absorbing it.... I don't think disconnecting sway bars is typically a good idea ... Sway bars are there to increase stability...
@RKmndo2 жыл бұрын
Not really. Anti-swaybars don't provide clearance. They move as the suspension travels. They limit sway in turns. They also limit articulation. Offroaders generally reconnect them when getting back onto pavement.

@delayedinsanity5 жыл бұрын
It's only a disadvantage if you're not comfortable with it. There's definitely some obstacles that can be trickier, but most people I know who drive stick regularly can shift almost sub-consciously. In vehicles like the TRD OR it also means you lose crawl control, but it's subjective whether you needed that in the first place.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. (Psalms 51:1-4)

What is a 4 low?
@Geerice5 жыл бұрын
Many part time 4x4 vehicles such as Jeep Wranglers have a transfer case which controls the number of driven wheels. It sits between the transmission and the driveshafts, with the control lever next to the gear shift. It has 4 settings: 2 High, 4 High, Neutral, and 4 Low. 2 High is normal rear wheel drive. 4 High is just like rear wheel, but it's on all four wheels. Neutral completely disconnects the driveshaft from the transmission, it's used for towing. 4 Low is like 4 High, except it has a lower speed gear ratio which gives you more torque for crawling.
@gullf1sk8 жыл бұрын
Dont use 4low in 4th or 5th gear, it creates a massive strain on the drivetrain and should be avoided.
