I've ridden on the Shinkansen and the TGV in France (and slow speed all over the world ;-) ). The high speed makes train travel a faster choice than airline travel over relatively short distances. For example, Paris to Lyon is 2 hours. That is less overall travel time when you consider the time it takes to get to an airport, arrive 1-hour before departure etc. Sure, the flight is only an hour, but the overall travel time is about 3-hours.

On my last AMTRAK trip from New York City to Syracuse in upstate New York we often reached 30 miles an hour between Albany and Syracuse New York. Of course we had a layover of about 40 minutes in Albany so they could swap out the Locomotives. I hear they no longer use mules to reach the Other smaller cities in New York.

Used that AMTRAK going from NY to Montreal about 15 years ago. It took forever. And they also had to change locomotive in upstate NY. For long periods the train simply stopped on double tracks to wait for a train going the other way to pass us. Never again.

Here in Spain we have the high-speed kilometers per inhabitant ratio in the world, it’s the second largest network after China and we only have 47 million inhabitants, now the network has been released and there are double decker TGV trains called Oigo also recently they added Avlo, the low cost brand from Renfe, prices are falling a lot and taking an AVE will be just as normal as traveling by bus approaching even more and cheaper all the main cities of the country, it’s incredible and the service is excellent, almost no one wants to travel by plane between Madrid-Barcelona, Seville, Valencia or among other cities. And they still constructing more lines to link up all Spain.

if Spanish politicians would have wanted to create something that would really serve the people they would have focused on commuter trains, this is just a vanity project to grab votes, in fact they always travel empty and they are unable to cover even their operational costs, so in it creates a black hole in public finances that is getting bigger and bigger And even if you set aside all the financial part, they cannot be considered a net positive even accounting also all the social benefits of it

It was a fantastic experience. Now I would like to go by a modern TGV Duplex version (TGV Lyria, TGV OuiGo) and on Eurostar and Frecciarossa in Italy and in Spain, too. I am so glad that high speed trains and lines have been built in Europe, too.

I really enjoyed this documentary, as a long time rail ,fan, l found it very inspiring, especially as l live in a continent,( North America) that has since WW2's end , has largely pushed aside development of passenger rail, choosing to focus on airline, auto & bus. It is really impressive to see the wide range of countries around the world( some that used to be considered 2nd & 3rd World) that have advanced their passenger rail, and the consistent uniform level of quality, performance, passenger comfort, etc. These countries show to all the naysayers in North America that yes, it can be done! Under the Biden Administration significant $ amounts are being allocated & some major projects are being started, but off course they don't yet compare to what is shown on this video. There are some improvements, with possibility of high speed works in my native Canada. What l really found ironic as a Canadian was hearing the Canadian Co. Bombardier mentioned several times as being involved in several of the high- speed trains , involved many places but Canada! Sadly Ironic! I realize that it requires an incredible amount of $, & the challengge, esp. in Canada is the largely spares population compared to 😮these other countries, which means we less paying passengers per mile of track, which makes it difficult for the😂 train to pay for itself. Having 😂😂😂😂😂watched many videos on tragic rail accidents over the years , l hope we don't have any high-speed rail crashes. One encouraging statistic is that Japan's Bullet train has operated since 1964 & carried over 9 million passengers without a single casualty! Let's hope today's high-speed trains can maintain the same record! Sorry for such a botched text with all those stupid faces, but with severe head pain l'm very stupid at texting!

The Maglev is not a train in itself. It is therefore not comparable to the TGV or the ICE, which are conventional high-speed trains. And above all, a line for Maglev costs 3 times more expensive than a conventional high speed line. Its operation will therefore NEVER be profitable, unlike the TGV. This is the reason why this technology is hardly used in the rest of the world. The Maglev is therefore more a political object than an efficient and viable mode of transport.

The TGV at rank 8 ,isn't cool!!..... He is operated at 320km/h like the E5 and VelaroD which it is several years ahead of .... It is the only two-level TGV in the world, and in addition operated at this speed. The duplex is lauch in 1995 for the first, used on the HSL Paris Lyon. They were able to 350km / h but the Paris Lyon line is limited to 300 because of the bend. The Euroduplex is only the last generation circulating at 320km / h by choice because it is designed for 360 in service just like the last HSL 's built (Paris Strabourg-HSL Sud Ouest, HSL Rhin-Rhone). An endurance record was made in 2001..Calais/Marseille so 1067km in 3h29 ... the train oscillated between 340 and 360km / h except on the "triangles" (transfer from one HSL to another one which is at 250km / h) and tunnels (260/270). Spain with a private company Ouigo Espana will have 10 euroduplex on its lines normally for 2021.

The debate to install HSR is still going on in US. It may take months or even years, no one knows. Once it's settled and agreed to be built, then the debate on where to build and who is going to pay for the HSR will begin. So be patience. Democracy in US must be upheld and debates must go on until a decision is made. That takes time.
