I love my ARCS, Unconscious Mind and Andromeda's Edge. The kids keep asking to play Harmonies and Pokemon: Splendor over and over again. Harmonies is definitely deserving of peoples choice #1. It's a game that will continue to be in peoples collections getting played long after a lot of the titles in the reviewer lists fade to obscurity.

There is not that much meat on "SETI", essentially you either fly, scan or upgrade. For just that it's quite complex and arduous to play. Sure, the theme is nice.

Starting to see a lot of 'group think' between the DT folks 😉 but also recency bias (after all Essen, the con of eurogames pumped out all of these recent releases)

I think the peoples top 10 will change a bit give another 6 months or so. Its a bit soon as unless we kickstarted certain games and went to essen we dont have alot of chance to play as much as theyre just comin to retail. The top 10 are all either big kickstarters or were readily available games.

21:10 While you are right, I don't think the 'only via crowdfunding' can be just 'swept' by what you said. It's top ten of the year yet the game is not accessible. However, I feel it is solved by another, yet simple, preamble to talking about such games in such top ten of the year lists: By wishing this game, would make its way to retail, possibly BECAUSE you highly rated it and raved about it, which helps create a demand. If you take Zee's funny comment about owning a handcrafted game, only 3 in existance in the world - it also shows that boutique games is a problrmatic thing, if there's no chance they will become available when there's further demand. People, and manufacturers, should always be reminded of that possibility.

When you look at the list zee, Tom, and Mike did for top 2024 games, they had 26 unique games, 14 were crowd funded, 12 were not. Amongst those 26 games, 24 have some form of retailer selling the game. Whether it is in a boutique style, or a major board game retailer, they had someone selling a version of those games. The reality is that they are available. Are they the kickstarter deluxe versions? No. But this is a myth that these aren’t available. You can get them. If they were flexing some Brazil exclusive market games, or Japanese market games exclusively from the Japanese game market where they make sometimes just a 100 copies of the game, I would be more sympathetic. But this idea that almost all crowd funded games, like 8 out of 10 or 7 out of 10 games are just exclusive to crowd funding isn’t true. Many come back with expansions and offer the base on crowdfunding platforms, many end up going to retail, and very rarely can I never find a game on the secondary market on BGG. Only time I struggle is when it doesn’t have a market in North America. But kickstarter games? No. No issues.
@nshaw1299Күн бұрын
@mm-si3qi I don't know if it's true, but you anyway neglect the question of price. A game costing over 80-100$ might as well be 'not available' to most people. I can't say 'games should cost such and such', but I'm pretty sure the board game revolution of the past 30 years, created much much more games who 'when available' cost a ton of money. (removing the factor of price due to low availability). Hoping for a retail version is an important wish in many cases. I'm not saying this applies to the games in the dice tower lists. I'm saying that 'wishing for availability (reasonable price included in that)' is a nice thing to say, to your audience, if you have a less available game on your top games of last year's list.
@mm-si3qiКүн бұрын
@@nshaw1299 of course I neglected price. That wasn’t the issue. The issue was if a game is on Kickstarter is it available afterwards. It almost always is. What does pricing on Kickstarter have anything to do with the starting comment? If we are talking about pricing, your local game store almost sells it at full price. They can’t afford to offer discounts. People like miniature market can afford discounts, so it is almost always cheaper than kickstarter. But if a game was 80-100 on kickstarter, your local game store is selling it for that price, and online you might see a 15-20 percent discount. But you almost always have a retail edition, which means that games that start on crowdfunding are getting to people and they aren’t these rare sightings where people who bought into the crowdfunded site have a game no one else does. If a game was 80 dollars on kickstarter, MSRP is also 80 dollars. If you were priced out on kickstarter, you are more than likely priced out at retail. So I don’t get your follow up. Just because it starts on crowdfunding doesn’t mean it gets any cheaper when it hits retail. The retail edition that you are backing will either be cheaper because they want you to back and get guaranteed numbers, or the same as the retail amount if it goes to retail.

Too bad Bruce Campbell is not a nerd/geek else he would be a dream guest in DT with Joey. But Bruce does character voices and he has lots of them from listening to podcast he guested in so having him for a campaign game or D&D sess would be the way to go. He has lots of old timey voices from the 1920 ~ 50 I was thinking AH would be a good setting but the card play would probably turn him off immediately.
