Sonic Forces was the first Sonic game with an extended ensemble that I played (I hopped on the series with Colors because I was a Nintendo kid during the time that the adventure and heroes stuff was coming out, and Colors reminded me of Nintendo stuff)... And yeah what a first impression I got. Thankfully I have since gone back and seen what good Sonic games look like, and also now we have Frontiers so hopefully Ian and the rest of the Sega team can keep the momentum in the right direction.

​@chunkymonkey7983 pikmin combat is a little more involved. You have to actively throw them at enemy weak points and call them back when they're in danger. EoW combat is comparatively simple. Just drop your echo and wait.

The game was not that interesting IMO, the "freedom" just leads you to using a few OP echoes and everything else becomes irrelevant except in niche cases where you need to use an echo from a long time ago, then have to scroll through the entire list which was the worst part of BOTW/TOTK. The dungeons in EOW are better than the open world games, but it's a pretty low bar. In terms of story and gameplay, I'd have to put it far behind the Link's Awakening remake and Link between worlds. It ranks high as a 2D Zelda game because of how few 2D ones there really are that people have played. I guarantee if they remade the Oracles games or LTTP in a new style and with modern tech, those would definitely rank higher for most people.

I’d like to share 3 obscure indie games from 2024 that I think people should check out. 1. Shipwrecked 64. First 2024 game I played and immediately peak. I can’t say much without spoiling the game. Essentially, back in the 90’s there was an n64 game called Shipwrecked, that was pulled off the shelves only 3 days after a release. Only in 2023 was it finally able to restored for everyone to play. But there was a reason the game was recalled. There is a mystery lurking beneath the surface, waiting to be unearthed. 2. Windowkill. Just a really creative game with a very fun gimmick. The game window is the central mechanic. 3. Cattails WildWood story. Super fun cozy life sim where you play as a cat. The demo explains the appeal far better than I can.

I have an hot take when it comes to Sonic Generations remastered. I'm actually glad the actors redubbed the cutscenes. 1 - It's been at least 5 years since we heard some of these characters in a Sonic Game. I haven't heard Espio's voice in a game for 7 years. It's wild. 2 - It's Sonic Generations. Nobody plays the game for the characters or the story, it sucked back then and so changing the dialogue really doesn't matter. I will draw the line if they redub Unleashed though.

@@End_Productions I was sorta meh on Amy's new cutscene with Modern Sonic (it felt like one of the most blatant cases of new dialogue contrasting with old animations), but it didn't feel out of character for her, especially in her newer role as essentially the fourth member of Team Sonic. And it's not as though they're entirely erasing the crush on Sonic as people have said, since they added a reference to it in Classic Sonic's cutscene with her ("wow, you look younger every day" is replaced with "I've always thought you were cute, but did you get cuter?").

Balatro hitting all top ten lists is such a breath of fresh air. Good indie games always sneak in to a few lists but every single list I've seen having it up there is such good for the world. It's such a masterpiece in it's design in it's mechanics and the fact your first few run feels truly impossible until you start understanding it, and then it feels like a cake walk and going up the different stakes makes it feel like you're learning the game all over again. A truly special feat.

As someone who's kind of been missing 3D mascot platformers, I couldn't have been happier that Astro Bot won game of the year. I think the creative director of the game shared similar thoughts, that in this more modern age Sony is more leaning toward making more mature, hyper-realistic games. And there's nothing wrong with that, those kinds of games do have a place in the industry. But variety is the spice of life, ya know?

@sdtrawick Hell yeah my dude. Unicorn Overlord was so freaking good. The strategy gameplay in trying to make good squads, the conquest feeling of it, and a lot of fun missions and incredible sprite-work. Amazing game that should receive more recognition. (Also Ramona is best girl)

I play games slowly, so didn't play many 2024 games but FF7 Rebirth is now probably one of my favourite games of all time. I could not stop thinking about it after finishing.

The hub in Astro bot? Waddle Dee town. You even move across levels with the warp star, and you go into levels with the gliding mini game too. Good to see Sony looking at Nintendo to finally get a good game on PS5. (Oh, and the original stuff is cool I guess)

Oh, and speaking of the whole Astro Bot GOTY thing: No joke, I have a friend who posted something on Facebook saying that they hadn’t played Astro Bot, but they were still certain Wukong got robbed. I replied to that post, saying that Astro Bot very much did deserve its GOTY win, being a game simply focused on joyful fun from start to finish. My friend responded by saying he hadn’t even actually played Black Myth Wukong either! Like WTF man?

A game I hoped would be on the list was “Prince of Persia: the lost crown”. Which is a metroidvania by the devs behind Rayman Origins/Legends. It’s an excellent platformer with amazing combat, basically saying “what if smash bros was a platformer?” It has a mode that eliminates a lot of metroidvania aspects to streamline it more for people who don’t like Metroidvanias. And had none of the general Ubisoft slop the studio has become known for. It’s the best thing Ubisoft has made in a decade, and unfortunately went right under the radar, but it has caused the game to be pretty cheap to get, and it’s definitely worth the price. There is a demo if anyone is interested, I highly recommend it. And it is my personal GotY, even ranking above Astro Bot and Balatro for me

Astro Bot rescue mission came out in 2018 for PSVR. It had the boss lock mechanic before Kirby TFL. So I think Kirby stole that idea.... Or got a similar Idea. Astro Bot rescue mission was my favorite VR game for PSVR1 and I'm so happy for Team Asobi for getting the recognition they deserved.

It's not supposed to be a strategy, that's the intended way to fight. It's why the sword fighter is limited in time (although later on you can definitely make that timer last a good while. You have to earn it.)
