We just got into the hobby at the end of 2019 when my wife bought me Wingspan because it came recommended by the owner of our FLGS. Once we played that we've become addicted. Probably bought 40 new games this year. Feast for Odin, Calico, Space Base, Maracaibo, Fields of Arle, Castles of Burgundy have all seen a lot of love.

Love the individual takes on best games of the year! Been following the channel for quite some time now and as I’m introducing other friends of mine into the board game world, I turn to this channel for inspiration in finding new games. Your play throughs of cafe and fort granted such simplicity and clarity in showcasing it to others, while heavy euro games like on Mars gives so much pathway to success in the style of the creators. Having covered an abroad range of games and the constant up to date content, will most definitely look forward to future material and will draw back on previous content (new to viewers) for fantastic demonstrations and walkthroughs. Thank y’all so much and have a wonderful holiday season!! ❤️

As always, wonderful video. I like that you broadened it out to games you were introduced to in 2020. Some of mine are "The Gallerist" at #1, then in no particular order were "The Crew", "Calico", "Santa Monica", "Taverns of Tiefenthal", and "Gaia Project".

Really like your channel and loved this video! You pointed me to a number of games that I hadn't heard about or which didn't really grab my attention. Beyond the Sun - You had me at tech tree! Sounds great, going to check this one out for sure. Animal Kingdoms - You had me at area control and working well at all player counts. Love area control but it often doesn't work great with 2, so eager to check it out. Curious Cargo - Never heard of it but seems like a good 2-player game that we'll enjoy. Space Base - Totally disregarded this one but you brought it back to my attention. Trismegistus - I enjoy crunchy Euros although we have enough Lacerdas to keep us busy for a while. Will read more about this one as well. Thanks for the great video and keep them coming! :)

Trismegistus is my favorite of the year. But also am digging On Mars and Abomination. I was super surprised about how much I am loving Disney Villainous, that one totally snuck up on me. Am super anxious to try Tekhenu and Tawatansuys. And now you have me giving Search for Planet X another look. I also tend to shy away from space themed games. Thanks for your channel, I always know I will get a thorough rules overview accompanied with a well-played play through and thoughtful review. Happy Holidays!!!

It makes so much sense to rank the best games you played, rather than artificially limit it to games published this year. Good list. Your tastes are more diverse than mine, but the point of watching lists is to consider different things, right? Keep up the good work!

Great video. I definitely have the same #1 of the year as both of you. Mombasa and Trismegistus are also both favorites of mine, though I played them before this year so they wouldn't go on my list. But all three of On Mars, Trismegistus, and Mombasa are top 25 games for me. My number two of the year is Bonfire. Feld is very hit or miss for me but this one is one of his best. Tekhenu and Tawantinsuyu are fighting out for third place for 2020 game I think. After that is tough, I've probably barely played 10 games from 2020 so far. If I also count non-2020 games I played for the first time this year then Babylonia from Knizia would also be quite high, probably take third before either of the T games. I was really impressed with it.

Since 2020 is my first year venturing beyond Carcassonne and Scrabble, choosing my favorite games for this year is basically just choosing my favorite games! My number one is Scythe, I've played it dozens of times, mostly solo but I really look forward to having opportunities to play it multiplayer in the future. Number two is Tapestry, which was unexpected for me but I enjoyed the solo mode enough to give it a go and my wife loves it. Number three is Wingspan, since my wife and I love birds and it was one of our most important steps into the hobby. I'd give an honorable mention to Journeys in Middle-earth which I got for Christmas and played basically non-stop last week. Looking forward to year two and hoping this will be the year I'll actually get to find and play with board gaming friends instead of only family.

Non-2020 releases I’ve bought and want to try: Riverboat, Aquasphere, Fleet, Xenon Profiteers, Aeon’s End: The New Age, Clank In Space, A Study in Emerald, Fields of Arle, Orleans, Vinhos, Indonesia, Shipyard, Streaming. Very fun lists. I've been waffling lately about picking up Trismegistus (I've really been hoping for a second printing/edition that fixes the readability issues and the rulebook, but it doesn't look like that will be happening); this video just pushed me over the line into ordering it. My favorites of the year have been On Mars, Tekhenu, Tawantinsuyu, and Beyond the Sun. My list of unplayed games that I'm really excited about is just ridiculous at this point though, although I'm very positive that those four will remain at or near the top of my list.

Appreciated you listing Pendulum as an honorable mention. It's on my wish list for the solo mode and the only reason I didn't impulse buy when it got a deep discount was because I've just acquired three games in a month's time and because it's a game I know I won't be able to play my wife. I've played the timerless version on tabletopia a couple times and while I enjoyed it, I can tell it'll be more fun with the physical game. The fact that you still like it enough to give it an honorable mention reinforces my decision to put it on my wish list. I ended up liking Tapestry in spite of the controversy so this may be the same case for me if and when I eventually end up getting it.

@shinjial4 жыл бұрын
On Mars is probably my favorite of the year as well. There are many things to like about it, but the concept I like the most is that the game "timer-progress" is shared, and is the result of player choices and interactions. Many actions can block a path to someone else, but also create opportunities. For instance, if I lay a energy building and score it, my opponents can't do the same for a while (until the colony levels up), but they can potentialy build one of their building if they acquired a design for it, and then use a scientist. What I also liked a lot is that the technologies are shared, so even if I don't own it, I get to use the benefits of its current level, and who owns it gets to level it up or get a wind resource - positive player interaction is great. The choice of when to take the trip is also great. Ah, so much to this game! I love it. Hey, I did like Pendulum as well. My brother got it a couple of weeks ago and we played it maybe last week, and for me it was quite fun. I think if people just get that it's a basic worker placement euro at its core it makes the rest simple. Since I got to see it played I knew what I was getting into, so I just got to enjoy it. My brother was a bit lost for two rounds, but he was picking it up on the latter half of the game and actually got to enjoy it. And he said it's just such a different experience from our other games that he liked it for that alone at least. We're yet to give it a second shot with that first game out of the way. We also played Maracaibo this year, and we liked the simple-ish movement-action (reminiscent of GWT) and the scoring multiplier linked to the influence tracks with the 3 countries. It's a game we can just pick up and play because it's that straightforward. That led us to Mombasa (because of the influence mechanic), which we also found to be a great game. I have to say I think Mombasa is trickier to get around because the bulk of the points revolves around the stock value and presence on the board, for one, and the action selection with the cards as well. PS: Rococo Deluxe Edition is totally worth it.

I have only played Pendulum solo, but enjoy the overall concept and will be brining it to my group. I think many will just never enjoy real time games or the pressures they bring. As much as I have enjoyed Disney Villainous, the Marvel one fell flat. Still cant understand why On Mars seems like so convoluted to some people. I find it a ton easier than Lisboa or Kanban tbh. Besides the building rules everything else is pretty straight forward. Worker placement, contracts, blueprints for building.... The shuttle mechanic is easily mitigatable and controllable. The so called circle of life for the building/resources pretty much set all in place. My 4th game with 3 players was 1 hour 15 mins long. Lovely.

Seeing Beyond the Sun on the list at 3 and Arnak not on it at all is pretty telling for me. I picked up Arnak because it was available locally but my next game will be Beyond the Sun for sure. I've enjoyed my first play or Arnak but I feel like I need to have 3 players to really make it work.

I just discovered you guys and I love your videos! My boyfriend and I have been looking for 2-player games and your reviews are perfect. We're recently looking for more co-op games (my bf isn't very competitive!) what are your recommendations for 2-player co-op games? :) Keep up the great work!

Awesome! Thank you! Do you guys enjoy heavy strategy games or more lighthearted ones?

I got my fiancé to play a bit medium game called Big Book of Madness. It’s a fun coop game with heavy Harry Potter inspirations. You play as students with different abilities and you cast spells to get rid of monsters!

Didn’t get to play most of the games in both your lists! My most played games for 2020 is Wingspan, Tapestry and Root. Would like to know will you both play through Dwellings of Eldervale? I’m waiting for my copy to arrive and hope your side will able to make a video of it! Merry Christmas! 🎅🏻🎅🏻🎁🎁

Nice list so far not done watching yet, but if anyone knows where I can find that cafe game I would appreciate it. Didn't see it on Amazon.
