I suppose because it's not a duet, it's a soliloquy. Then again, so is "I Can Hear the Bells'... but Link eventually fell in love with Tracey, where as Marius never loved Eponine, so I guess that's why "I Can Hear the Bells' made the list but not "On My Own." Actually, I'd call 'A Little Fall of Rain' more of the love song (even though Eponine sings it as she's dying), because she was happy in the arms of the man she loved. I think that's the most beautiful song from Les Miserables. It's definitely one of the most beautiful deaths in musicals (which is a weird sentence, I suppose, because death isn't usually good. But as I said, she was finally happy in Marius' arms!) :p

the version shown makes me tear with happy... you can truly feel the love between them... the reprise.... absolute sobbing uncontrollably, turning me into a mashed potato mess.. i have yet to actually see it in theatre, but, have had the original broadway recording on tape (yes, cassette) since 1996... and between that, the movie, and the movie soundtrack... when a good rollercoaster cry is needed... it always works :)

Because that wasn't a duet, it was sung by many people. Also, it had multiple meanings, that musical sequence. I mean Eponine is singing in the background about how much she loves Marius, but he loves Cosette! So that's a sad moment for Eponine.

That was about what they could GET from each other. Both had ulterior motives for wanting to be together... their marriage was more of a business arrangement than a love story. At least, that's how it seems in the musical... I don't know if the real Eva and Juan Peron were truly in love or not.

From what I recall of their real marriage they started of with mutual respect/admiration and wanting to help people (she was his mistress first and it was quite a shock when he married her to some people) but that they did genuinely love each other and was in a long period of mourning after her death.

Of all the great love songs from musicals, you choose IF I COULD TELL HER over Only Us, which, by the way is the far superior love song in DEH, and I wouldn't even consider Only Us for this list considering how many amazing songs there are. From the top of my head I can name several better love songs for the #4 spot: Something Good or Sixteen Going on Seventeen from The Sound of Music, If I Loved You from Carousel, If Ever I Would Leave You from Camelot, The Light In The Piazza from The Light In The Piazza, What About Love from The Color Purple, People from Funny Girl, Someone Like You and Once Upon A Dream from Jekyll/Hyde, A Heart Full of Love from Les Miserables, ALL THE WASTED TIME FROM PARADE(!!!!).
