Lily's Eyes is by far the most beautiful male duet ever. I only wish you didn't cut the songs off right before the stunning climax. Another great male duet is You're Nothing Without Me from City of Angels. It's brilliant and funny.

The most amazing (and memorable) performance of "Lily's Eyes" that I saw was at a Neil Berg concert with William Michals and Brian d'Arcy James. The sheer power coming off that stage was breathtaking. I think we all wept at the emotional harmonies.

Is it a male duet though? Jonathan Larsen never specifies Angel's gender identity. Angel could be a drag queen or a trans woman
@Phelie3153 ай бұрын
@henriklindholm7007 true, but the actor who plays Angel is usually a man. Depends whether you see "male duet" as male singers or male characters. Technically "you're timeless to me" from Hairspray would then also be a male duet...

I usually have issues with Ms Mojo's lists, LOL, but you nailed this one. As soon as I read the title, I said, "Lily's Eyes" better be number one! I saw Ben Platt perform at The Palace several times, so I caught a lot of the surprise guests, but I missed him performing this song with Brian D'Arcy James. Personally, that's the one performance I would have picked to see live if I had the choice.

Truly Alive from the musical Amazing Grace is an underrated gem! The song is a duet between an estranged father and son who are arguing about the son's future. It's VERY tense, and the two sing overtop one another, each trying to overpower the other, building to a powerful finish. Definitely recommend this musical!

I think it was Ms. Mojo that ranked Everybody Ought to Have a Maid (A Funny Thing...Forum) as the funniest song in a musical. The main song is a duet between Pseudolus and Senex, while the two encores add Hysterium and Lycus. The same musical also has "Impossible" with Senex and Hero. Another one I think of is I'm Not My Father's Son from Kinky Boots.

‘Lily’s Eyes’ is absolutely correct as #1 but I am SHOCKED and horrified that “The Proposal/The Night was Alive” from Titantic and “You’re Nothing Without Me” from City of Angels aren’t on this list! 😱 Also, while “Agony” is correct, a mention of “No More” from Into the Woods would have been warranted. Such an emotional song.

So not a true “male duet” but when performed by a gifted actor (sorry Hoff), Transformation/Alive from Jekyll & Hyde is a duet by one person. Have seen where the actor changes between Jekyll & Hyde so completely they do appear as 2 different actors. Probably one of the most difficult scenes to do live on stage effectively
