From there you can just start putting on any Hypocrisy album and enjoy but Abducted is usually the best way to start. Note, the first two albums are more like Florida style Death Metal, it's still good just didn't want you to get caught off guard.

@@Blood0cean I think they definitely went commercial as fuck after come clarity but i still greatly enjoyed everything up to siren charms, from there on the band became straight up metal pop music and it's a shame, because even in their new stuff you hear clear glimpses of the signature sound that made them so famous to begin with, but it's overly clean and radio friendly not to mention the god awful clean vocal catchy choruses.

Kalmah is one of the best. They're one of the most under rated in the genre. Their stage presence live, how they own the stage, up there because they want to be, they love the music, donr care for the money. Kalmah is my number one, shared with dark tranquility

This is Swedens genre, just like Black Metal is Norways. Sweden is a great metal nation overall. Sabaton, Entombed, Opeth, Ghost, Meshuggah, Candlemass, Katatonia and Talisman are among other metal bands from Sweden.

Wolfheart: Particularly infections songs: Gale of Winter, The Hunt, Boneyard, World on Fire, Ancestor, Cold Flame, Eternal Slumber. Wintersun: Though they are not a death metal, but a mixture of melo death, melo black, with tons of classical and asian instruments, they sound insanely compact and precise. I guess any extreme metal fan would know of them. Sons in particular: Almost any song is memorable.

Really wish MyGrain got on more people's radars damn they're such an amazing Melodeath band particularly their self titled album. Short lived but Witherscape as well was phenomenal wish Dan Swano would do more vocals in his own bands he seems to only produce or do guest vocals nowadays. Man perfection when Peter Tagtgren from Hypocrisy/Pain and Dan Swano did Nightmares Made Flesh with Bloodbath.

Sometimes all these labels are confusing like I heard some people say melodeath is not a shortened version of melodic death metal but actual different subgenres of metal.The argument being that a lot of the bands could never be considered anywhere near death metal and in order to have death metal in the name it has to have a resemblance to actual death metal .

Actually no, sweden were the pioneers of the genre for the first two years of its inception with at the gates "the red in the sky is ours" in 92 and dark tranquility's "Skydancer" in 93. After those releases you had UK's Carcass late 93 release "heartwork". Finland didn't make a melodeath record until in flames 1994 "lunar strain".
