I really appreciate these kind of videos. I tattoo for a living and really struggle with creating art in my free time outside of tattoos. Videos like these definitely really help motivate me to try to improve my art in other mediums.

thank you for this video. Finding your channel was like an epiphany for me. I was trying to establish as an artist, but being a really anxious person I haven't made it until now. I am doing realistic drawings of wildlife, also illustrating a childrens book, but when I saw your first video it suddenly clicked and I was like: wow, yeah I like that! But being not actually young any more and never having had propper training, struggeling with everything, I was really like 'I will never get to that point. Is that even what I want? What do I want? Well, what I want is being able to pay for the best food and vets for my dogs. You inspired me to purchase a nice new sketchbook in the near future and just experiment, without the pressure of being perfect or showing it to anyone. Maybe one day I will be able to do one of your workshops. Thank you

I appreciate these videos. It's inspiring to see these great pieces of work emerge during the time and the "real talk" is good to hear. Personally, I put down drawing for far too long after hitting a rut where progress seemed stalled... After picking it up again, I surprised myself with what I could do but definitely know I'm starting far away from where I could be.

I'm 46 and a lot of what you said I've been guilty of. Been selling art since 2008ish but always stayed in side hustle mode. Never in my life have I asked for feedback from anyone for any one work of art I've made. I regret that and yes I've been stubborn. I'm surprised people still buy my weird art with very little amount of followers on my Instagram. Anyway ty for the video helped me self reflect on all your talking points.

Because the art industry is quite small, It's very hard if not impossible to reach the top if you're not industrious AND talented. With effort then eventually everyone will make it to a low pro level, I'm pretty sure. But making a good carreer at a triple A studio or let alone master or grandmaster artist? I really doubt it. If you're doing everything roughly right and still your progress is very slow or you just can't ''break in'', you might just not be cut out for it. Maybe you just don't have what it takes. Not everyone is able to work at this high of a level and that's totally ok. You can argue that oh they just haven't put in the work, but I think there's just more to it than that.

Hi thank you for the video. Your words are strong and heavy hitting. I made the mistake to feel special and entitled to be successful. Close to 40 I've made all those mistakes you're talking about. This year I'm trying to go back to be humble and diligent about art and to get good at it again. Thanks to you're channel, in the past few months I'm making art frequently again and feeling that I can revive my Instagram too. Many thanks to you! And looking forward for the livestreams!!

I've been listening to your videos for a whole week straight at work and it's been especially good!I feel like I've learnt a lot.But as a newcomer to the industry, the biggest difficulty right now is that I don't know how to reach out to people who are actually in the business, so maybe in a video after that you could talk about that?

When I decidIed to go back to school after my TBI, I did so with the intent of wanting to learn the "business end" of my art and writing so I could earn an income. I wanted to know HOW to market my work. I was selling every week at the flea market, paying my rent/groceries... but I needed the accounting and such. Needless, after one art class, I gave up entirely on that notion. The business classes were interesting but not geared in the direction I needed. I wasted 4 years, didn't make it to degree (ran out of fund for tuition) and found myself no closer to my goal. I gave up art entirely for over a decade and just since the pandemic started drawing again. Not trying to make an income, just enjoying the journey. I do like the full screen rather than the mini phone screen vids. And, I do find this kind of vid where the "how" of the industry is explained.

Thanks for the advice, this fits me to a T. I'll try to be better at learning rather than saying other people are wrong in the ways that they teach me. Also, can you make a video about doing different types of eye lid shapes? I just can't seem to learn how to do deepset or offset eyes from reference of other peoples art work or real life. The one thing I am good at is looking at something an having a somewhat good understanding about how it works. Except when it comes to drawing, and I think it's the eyes that make my creatures not look that realistic. Thanks for all the lessons. They're much appreciated.

I'm having a lot of trouble with the follow my heart/follow the rules in art. When I'm designing characters, I often visualise the final product and try to bring it to life as best as I can, but when I'm doing perspective, most tutorials end up eyeballing the dimensions which is something I cannot yet do.

‘Tis a very good “10 mistakes” video! It makes much sense and it’s a lot of things that I forget often -_- Also I love the jnteraction with your pen and paper. The texture of the shading is really satisfying and the darks can go very deep that’s cool! Sick creature as always :3 I know you asked about specific questions. I’m going to work on that. I had to rewrite this comment because I have like 10 in my head and none are specific!

a lot of this advice is industry-centric. not interested in making money from my art. i don’t want to have to care about marketing or treat my art as a business. i want to make the art i wanna see not the art other people want to see like i did as a kid. it’s not about being good enough to make a living it’s about whether i want to take the thing that brings me joy and make it a business. when i did that it took the joy out of it. i’m 32 i think it’s a bit late for me to get an art career and there’s way more people more talented than me than there are jobs for that talent.

Bc if i Draw it and the shapes are still there if i erased it it would be messy no? if your problem is the erasures,, i think what you need is the right tools im not really sure because when i was young i dont have money to buy those i just draw with a cheap pencil mostly technical pencils and paper tho the type of eraser is important go for the expensive ones XD , sorry i have little knowledge about this bcause im on drawing pads now, but my time with paper helps me alot. i never really focused on it back then but i did draw alot. 1st of all this is off topic and im not that great of an artist XD i just want to share some tips based on my limited exp. now first who inspired you? do you like anime? american anime? manga? comics? realism? i cant help u with realism but if u like comics or manga its all about simplification, i think one of the best example is the show Invincible characters, they are easy to draw anatomy wise. simple anatomy simple costumes simple shading. start with invincible then if you get bored copying someone else work its time for you to tweak it,,draw invincible but this time hes not a superhero hes a police or a baseball player and hes bald now its not mark anymore its a different person its your character :) then if you feel like you want to level up your anatomy you want it to be more detailed, its time to check invincible comics version its more detailed. if you want to go cartoons the shapes are different and very important. great example is on my favorite designed cartoon characters Femme Fatal and sedusa from powerpuff girls XD, rick and morty,adventure times those cartoons has very unique style and all about shapes. tho its really hard to come up with your own art style u need to work on it checking other artist will help you with your style by mixing 2 - 3 different artist. when it comes to genre idk yet. its up to you my final would be 1. flip your canvas or paper while doing your drawings it will help you alot and it will make you laugh XD 2. shades creates shapes (check how they shade chest or boobs in invincible show and you will see how a simple line and shade will make it pop out) :) 3. check other artists work so you can store images in your brain library :)

I know I have a very long way to go, but that can change with a little help from teacher or expert's feedback. Explaining all these mistakes are very important feedback. Thank you for sharing this video. I will go back to the drawing board and do my best to improve in every one of these.

15:18- Yeah…….. if you “only” tell those artists from the 70s that “millions of people can see their art wherever they are around the world” then yes! Of course they would want that! But that’s because you left out all the negative that also came from the “digital age”! And there is A LOT of negative that has happened/been created because of it also!!! And if you added all of that also, I bet those artists in the 70s would probably change their opinions about how “good” the “digital age” is!?!

I think there can be portfolios that have a wide range of designs that appeal to many people. I know my target Audience/Audiences...People who love dark Sci-Fi, Horror, action genres, and combinations of those genres, although it seems my audience is much older. People who are interested in Creature designs, weapon designs, and environment designs. The people who Love stories like Alien, Predator, Doom, and Resident Evil to stories like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, even movies/games with more grounded creatures like Jurassic Park/World that take liberties on what really existed...but it seems like a lot of people aren't into the more intense or darker subject matter, and especially with today's younger audiences, they've all gone the pop anime route.
@bobbyrebholz2183
@bobbyrebholz2183 3 ай бұрын
Spot on. I agree. Going the creepy, dark Fantasy route can be both frustrating but incredibly rewarding. Most companies want to play it safe so that their games appeal to wider audiences. Just think of all the movies that should've been rated R but we're trimmed to PG-13. It's the same with the acceptance of dark artwork. Just keep making the art that makes YOU happy!

I don't want to be an Artist just a hobby slash just a thing for my games I've made the mistake of comparing my art to others I was not impressed with others lol jokes aside I did 12 hours a day of art practice for 1-3 months got burned out took breaks every 3 hours I improved a ton, but I didn't start drawing again until a year later which is this year still improved taking that break did the same thing, but toned it down to 4-8 hours a day did good for a few months got burned out stopped practicing doing a few pieces to see where I'm at and just to make something nice semi practice for 2-3 hours daily and make pieces of art which I haven't really done before personally I post my garbage/practice on deviant art if I had genuine pieces I would post it on something like art station
