Honorable mentions should be... - Ben had just joined the team and passed the "test" at the Asian underground casino yet on his first night was selected to be a BP. Most all team play has people start as spotters because BP is much more difficult. - The call ins were over exaggerated and ridiculous. Folding your arms behind your back dramatically is a huge giveaway. Real teams use common mannerisms that anyone would do. Real MIT team folded arms in front of them which doesn't give off attention. - Even before calling the police after you get punched by a casino staff member, if they say "let's go have a talk", you have every right to say no and leave. Forcing you to do this is holding someone against their will which is illegal.

Aside from all of the issues they mentioned in this video, there were a few other things I found unbelievable about the film. The primary motivation that the main character has for playing blackjack is to earn enough money to pay for medical school. That's an understandable motive, but throughout the film, we see that his studies are mostly in mathematics and computer science. He doesn't study biological subjects like anatomy or physiology, which would be far more beneficial to him if his intention were to study medicine. Next, in a lecture on non-linear equations, Kevin Spacey's character introduces the Monty Hall problem. I would understand completely if the Money Hall problem were introduced in a lecture on probability theory or statistics, but it seems unusual that it would be mentioned in a lecture on non-linear equations. Finally, there is a lot of the history of mathematics discussed in the lectures. Some lecturers may choose to include some history in mathematics lectures, but most would avoid it entirely. It just takes time away from what you're supposed to be teaching.
@garethaskew-hargreaves654910 жыл бұрын
With the Monty Hall problem, maybe the lecturer character was using it as a subtle test, to see who would get it - it was later explained they needed to replace a team member.

You might also mention the issue with the montages if Ben sitting at a table for a long period of time as many people come and go. You only need to tip people whose pay is lower than minimum wage because they are expected to be tipped. Waiters, waitresses, valets, maybe doormen if you feel generous. That is it. Remember, if you work at fucking McDonald's that dealer makes more money than you do.

hey I know you guys use a true count of hi-lo. I used zen count but have been recently debating to switching from a true edge to a true count for my conversions. The publisher of q-fit, norm wattenburg, stated that zen with true count is highly better but in Arnold Synders book he states true edge is better. And one last thing how can hi-lo be the best system if its a level one system??
@Blackjackapprenticeship10 жыл бұрын
Hi-Lo is not the "best" system in terms of achievable advantage, but it is usually a better choice because of it's simplicity. There are level two systems that may give you a slightly better advantage but they are more taxing on the brain and are more prone to making mistakes. Human beings are not computers, so picking a system that is effective but not too complicated usually produces the best results. I really enjoyed the book. I really disliked the movie. Therefore, I'm just going to throw out there that the movie is just terrible for so many reasons. The idea of the evil MIT professor is totally made up for the movie. The video also pointed out that if a corporate casino's security head beats the living crap out of you, you sue the casino, especially when hundreds of people can see your bloody and bruised face as you try to walk out. It's also totally laughable that the movie's hero is not only a genius intellectual, but has no real desire to make money other than for the noble cause of paying for his medical school education (what, the genius never heard of taking a loan like the thousands of other medical students out there?). And finally, let's also point out that while the book made a point of emphasis that in the early 1990's casinos assumed young gambling Asians were children of wealthy businessmen and used that misconception to fly under the radar, the movie made the main characters white. Yeah, screw 21.

The biggest mistake at the beginning of the movie is choosing a door in which he has a 33% chance because there are three doors and one is taken away and they claim he has a 66% chance now which is inaccurate it's 50%. You did not add 33% you took away 33%, which completely changes the equation. There are two doors and you are choosing one which is 50% no matter how you slice it.

Players tip because they don't know any better. Some think that if they tip that they will have better luck, some think they should tip because they have won some money, some tip because they seen someone else tip, and think it is a custom. All tipping does is it saves the rich casino owner from paying a proper wage. If everyone doesn't tip, then the casinos would have to pay a better wage....DON'T TIP!!!!!

And in so doing, I think they did a good job of shedding light on a lot of aspects of what card counting is all about. And you're right, maybe card counting isn't "highly profitable" (though that may depend on one's definition of highly), but it seems to be *reliably* profitable -- just as any house with a 51-49 advantage over the players will always be reliably profitable long term.

It really depends on the person. Everyone has their own opinion on tipping. I had a pit boss suggest to me to tip the dealer when I was coloring up. She said I should tip the dealer and the other dealer behind her where I had also won. I just mumbled something and walked away. Another time, a dealer who I had been chatting casually with for a while began to say, "I thought you were a nice guy." and "Im surprised". And I told her that I tip at the end, or when I leave. She didnt like that idea. And at another place nearby, I had spilt aces 4 times and then hit a 10 on each one. It was amazing. And as the dealer plays out her hand, I hear the pit boss utter," I bet he wont give her a dollar either." Yes I won the hand, no I didnt give her a dollar. The concept of tipping seems to turn adults into spoiled brats.

If you care about card counting then this is a good video. If you don't, you shouldn't be watching this video.

@pbarcubez You "count" which cards are already used (no longer in deck) and which are still in the deck, that way you can find out how big of a chance there is of getting "blackjack" (21)

6:15 I think the reason Lee did this was to show that it is in blackjack when your kind of car do you have to be able to do things fast you have to be able to know the count and even though it's only addition and subtraction you need to be able to do that fast and somebody with a high IQ like the big player or the main character Ben... Would be able to you know Cal really fast and make a decision really really fast... it is somewhat important to have an above-average IQ because you have to be able to you know calculate odds and stuff on the spot and even though it is just simple addition and subtraction people's nerves get to them so they'd be able may need to be able to be second nature when it comes to doing stuff like that

@argentinakeeper10 acually, i think he meant the scene at the end where the teacher plays with ben as a big player, and they show them on the same table with disguises !

Good vid. I had the same impressions. One to maybe add to the list is the fact that they went to the same casino every time in the movie! When in real life (and in the book), they went to different casinos all over the country (and world in some cases).

5:08 that was my biggest pet peeve all movie is that they all came in together... I mean not just a blackjack Furniture in a committed crime any kind of crime you don't walk in with your compasses you walk in at different times four different days... 💯

1) Wrong 2) Wrong again. You don't know how much the guy has won in total. If he won over 100k, 5k tip is nothing 3) The viewers wouldn't be entertained if they actually went as slow as it should be 4) He could have called the cops but was scared. This happens with a lot of things (i.e rape) 5) Ergo why you aren't blackjack champs 6) Again, you don't know how it was played so you're just guessing
