God yes, the orange Tony Stewart car was one of the few I was aware of even when I had barely any interest in motorsports and zero in stock cars. It, the rainbow #24 and the black #3 might be about the first three casuals in that era would have known. Maybe add the Bud #8 and Jimmie Johnson if they've paid at least a few minutes attention, but those first three would almost be the defaults.

@@JimmyDean59 I was a Tony Stewart fan when he drove that orange Home Depot car. So that really became a paint scheme to remember. I don't like that he was replaced by Joey Logano, an inexperienced driver when he drove for Gibbs. That Dale Earnhardt scheme has 2 throw backs and 1 imitation that I know of. I think Jr ran a throwback scheme on the 8 car at Talladega in 2006. It was thrown back to again this year in the xfinity series at Talladega by Jeffrey Earnhardt. The imitation was when Kyle Petty painted his car like the 3 when he had a dispute with NASCAR about how Earnhardt raced him (I'm pretty sure you did a video on that one)

Literally any current Hendrick Driver is more likeable, better performing, and less of a plot armored cheater than Mickey Elliott
@LionManatic2 жыл бұрын
I know that Jimmie didn't throwback to only that specific car. But, if you want to be technical, Jimmie Johnson, is who I believe is the only one to have thrown back to the classic Black #3 as accurate as he can. Not using other colors as substitute, but using the exact colors! Of course, he had Petty's scheme on top. But, still paid tribute to it! I highly agree with this list, but as a Jimmie fan, I can never get over Jimmie's Lowe's scheme from like 06-08! With the yellow curve on the side, it looked so good! The blue just pops on the hood, such a good and beautiful paint scheme!

Thank you for picking the Underbird. You totally left out Davey's Texaco scheme (1987-1990) or any Texaco 28 scheme, Mello Yello, Western Auto, and Tide are all iconic to me.

There were 3 variants of the Havoline #28 driven by Davey Allison. The 1987 - 1988 Ranier-Lundy #28 white/gold/red/black Havoline car (carried over to RYR in 1989). The 1990 Black/Gold #28. The 1991 - 1993 Black/Red/Yellow #28 (shared with Ernie Irvan)

I sort of knew that the Black GM Goodwrench number 3 of Dale Earnhardt was going to be number one, for me, one of my favourite iconic liveries is the STP Sponsored 43 car of Richard Petty. Whenever I see things associated with STP, I can't help but think of "The King". I also like the white and orange Hooters scheme of Alan Kulwicki's number 7 Ford Thunderbird :)

Petty by far had the most consistent long lasting good scheme

Dale Earnhardt jr, Martin Truex and Paul Menard all ran the Dale Earnhardt paint Scheme at Talladega in 2006 I believe. Martin Truex won with it in the Busch series. I think some other recognizable paint schemes would be the Wrangler jeans machine ran by both Ricky Rudd and Dale Earnhardt in the '80s, Labonte's Kellogg's paint Scheme from the mid-90s, Interstate Batteries, the Valvoline paint schemes Mark Martin ran, the 28 Havoline, 88 Ford credit, the Home Depot paint scheme and so on. To be honest there's too many to list for a top 10. Personally though I wouldn't have added the gray ghost. It's not extremely iconic in my opinion although it is a great paint scheme.

In my opinion, these are some honorable mentions Furniture Row 78 (2016-2017, Truex Jr) McDonald’s 1 (2015, Mcmurray) Home Depot 20 (2001, Tony Stewart) Mountain Dew 88 (2014, Dale Jr) UPS 88 (Dale Jarrett) Auto Owners Insurance 78 (2016-2018, Truex Jr) And finally, Tide (in general)

The Fabulous Hudson Hornet is the greatest paint scheme in early days of NASCAR and the Hudson Hornet crushed competition with Marshall Teague and Herb Thomas... I created a Pinewood Derby car replica almost similar to the Doc design when I was in Cub Scouts and I came in first place 4 times in a row from Wolf to Webelos 2 each year and got a trophy for the best car design when I got first place in Cub Scouts as a rank of Wolf... I raced that car I made until around 2012ish helping the Cub Scouts with the pinewood derby races and of course I wanted to use it again for the open class races but for a “Last Ride” tour to show the younger scouts what I designed back in the day I didn’t win the open class because they thought I “kept winning too much” which seems fair or maybe there was a better car being more faster... I still have both the car and the trophies with a few pictures here and there in a scrapbook filled with Cub Scout memories and adventures...

When it comes to just NASCAR, the most iconic in my view is the black #3 of Dale Sr along with the #43 STP scheme that Richard Petty ran for years. Now when it comes to motorsports in general the top 5 most iconic in my view are the late 80's-90's Marlboro scheme Ayton Senna ran and won 3 world titles (& later used by Penske in CART/IRL), the Target scheme Chip Ganassi ran in CART from the mid 90's-2000, the Scuderia Ferrari red that Ferrari continue to use, Subaru's blue & yellow combo they ran in the WRC from 1993-2008 & #1 the Rothmans Williams scheme that Damon Hill & Jaques Villeneuve won back to back world titles in 1996 & 1997 which is the first racing car I saw as a 2 year old kid watching F1 for the first time back in 1997.

For me some other iconic ones are the #9 Dodge driven by Bill Elliott, but most famously Kasey Kahne, and the Coors Silver Bullet. I'd also argue maybe the mid 2000s Jimmie Johnson Lowes scheme with the grey, blue, and yellow number.

The Texaco #28 deserves a mention. Iconic for a few drivers, and has basically vanished from the world of NASCAR. I can't remember the last time that the #28 has graced the doors of a cup car, but it's been quite some time.

The thing about the black 3 is Dale Earnhardt’s family said, when the 3 was brought back with Austin Dillon, that they were okay with the 3 coming out of retirement, only if it isn’t black. That is the only reason it isn’t black, and also the reason it hasn’t had a throwback.
