Sure Gaston doesn’t have any powers, but the wicked narcissist’s ability to charm a whole village puts him among Disney’s most intimidating foes. When Belle turns down Gaston’s marriage proposal, he devises an evil plan to lock her father Maurice up in the asylum in order to blackmail her into marrying him. After that plan fails, he turns his anger to her friend The Beast and stirs up the village’s xenophobia to storm the castle. He stabs The Beast nearly ending him, but thankfully falls to his own death before he can inflict more damage.

Chernabog is my favorite Disney Villain. He’s actually a cross between a Mayan Bat God and a Minotaur. Which you can actually see in his design. Another fun fact: Ursula is Triton’s sister. Fun Fact number 3: The Horned King set up shop in Camelot which is evident when Tarren finds the enchanted sword which is clearly Excalibur.

Hades does make a whole lot of sense, given that he's the older brother of Zeus, though Hades is simply the God of the Underworld, not the God of Death. That title belongs to Thanatos in the myths.

@user-ix1rp9ff3p Sadly yes... and I'm not entirely sure why modern cinema does Hades so dirty by making him a villain... yes, there was the matter of his kidnapping Persephone, but that only happened because Zeus gave Hades her hand without consulting Demeter or Persephone herself (a sad reflection of how little women in the world of Ancient Hellas and Rome were valued by men) first. And of course, let's not forget that Zeus and Hera were the ones with the massive tempers...

I personally would have put Chernabog at No. 1. My theory is that he's the ultimate source of evil magic in the Disney universe, so everyone from Maleficent to Hades would get their power from him. I feel there is a massive disconnect with Ursula as she is a Demi-God along with Triton. Her power, that we see in the Movie, is limited as she's checked by Triton. Her level of power would be under Hades, so her rank should be around 3rd / 2nd Place.

Gaston is a great villain, but he is EGREGIOUSLY out of place on this list. Literally every runner up listed weilds more power and/or influence, except for Cruella, who just had money.

PS - the accent used by voice actor Eleanor Audley for the character of maleficent in sleeping beauty is known as a Mid-Atlantic or Transatlantic accent. A very famous form of vocal production on stage and in film at a particular time in American entertainment.

I could be completely wrong about this, but I'm wondering if they left Frollo off the list because of the obvious predatory undertones of his character? Not to say that characters like Gaston weren't total pigs, but I remember seeing a lot of think pieces about the villain from the hunchback of Notre Dame representing a level of misogyny that even Disney looked back at and realized it went too far.

I would think Maleficent would be number 1 to be honest, hello she is Mistress of All for a reason, she literally cursed a baby to sleep with just one prick on a spinning wheel that’s dark as it gets for a THOUSAND YEARS to be clear, but i would probably be more afraid of The Evil Queen to be honest, cause she not only poisons Snow White with a poison apple but she literally wants her killed and in the movie of the original want’s her heart out of her, that’s pretty WILD and INSANING if you ask me, who want’s to get there heart ripped out of there body, she has POTENTIAL power. In the Once Upon A Time series with Regina AKA The Evil Queen in that version, if someone crosses her at all, all she needs to do is RIP out there beating heart out of there chest and she can just crush it just like that, if that’s not dark then i don’t know what is.

I would have swapped Gaston with Frollo. Frollo's deeds are more evil. He's the minister of justice who who's self righteous, willing to do anything, even murder and truly believes that as a man of god he's actions will be forgiven because its for the "greater good". In the end right as he's about to fall of the cathedral, he's stares a devil in the face and hell is where he'll probably go.
