I visited Kennebunkport, Maine and Newport, RI in the summer of 2020. I LOVED it. The only thing that I didn't get to do was tour the Gilded Age mansions on Newport. They were closed due to Covid.

I Summered in Kennebunkport during the mid to late 70's and the early 80's. Old Maine at its best old Boston families staying at the Nonantum Inn, the Colony, Ocean Drive and the Breakwater. What a lovely time it was.

I really felt like this should’ve been a longer list to include more of the Charleston & Savannah (all the islands) areas, even Jacksonville and some of those islands. And not one iota of NC?! There are some beautiful beaches in the Outer Banks. Also, nada from Connecticut?! Part II??
@schmancy2978 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! We may consider a part II for next summer!

A lot old money families from The South still go to New England esp Maine for the summer.. not too humid or bugs...

Oops! How could you leave out Virginia hunt country? Middleburg, the Plains, Marshall, etc. Home of the Mars family estate, known as US horse and hunt country capital. Mostly old trust fund money.
@schmancy2978 Жыл бұрын
Virginia hunt country is not a beach community. We included Middleburg in our old money in the south video. It’s a more fitting category, don’t you think?

How come you didn't acknowledge West Hampton? Too poor?

Westhampton exists within Southampton, which was number 7.

Oak Bluffs is a terrible town: crowded, traffic, cheesy shops and those tawdry cottages. I never go to Oak Bluffs.
@czardonia Жыл бұрын
Hey! I grew up going to Oak Bluffs in the summer and still love it. I intend to instill the gingerbread cottages deep in the memory of my future kids, too. While it is crowded, it’s the heart of the Vineyard and really a fun seaside town for kids.

I wouldn't put Hilton Head on this list, The Sea Islands of Georgia should be on it. They are more discreet than HHI.

What do you mean by the term "Low Country" ?? I've not heard that expression before.
@schmancy2978 Жыл бұрын
It’s the southernmost tip of coastal South Carolina where you’ll find lots of salt marshes and coastal waterways. The area sits at or below sea level, hence “low country “.
