The reason he left is something early-seasons Alex would've done. Not the Alex we have known for a few years. He would've never done that to Jo. I don't know what happened backstage with Justin Chambers, and I understand that they had to quickly address his departure in the show, but that was a poor choice the writers did there. I would've been more ok with Alex being dead.

You obviously wasn’t watching if you thought this was out of character to leave jo for izzie ( even without the kids involved he still would’ve made the same decision) Alex was on a smash tour after Izzy left him( because she felt he was trying to come between her and her career for coming back so early after cancer. When she realizes she made a mistake and he was her person he rejected her, she disappeared) and didn’t slow down until he had a conversation with a pretty girl who hard to read because she had a rough childhood ( like Izzy). he would also find ways to bring her up in random conversations.

Lexie's and Mark's deaths shifted the show a lot more than I thought. No offense to the writers or any of the other characters, but Grey's Anatomy just wasn't the same for me after Mark and Lexie died. To me there really wasn't as good as a shift from what happened between the finale of season 8 and premiere of season 9. I probably would've forgiven the writers if they did it in a way like they did when George died, but I didn't like how they shifted from season 8 to season 9. Don't get me wrong, I love Meredith and a few of the other characters, but it just wasn't the same for me anymore. And I didn't like how they wrote off Alex. He did have some solid character development, but having him leave Jo for Izzie was a waste. They threw out so many seasons and years of character development for him to go back to his original douche bag way. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like the writers have been doing kind of rough recently. When I mean that I mean for the past 2-4 seasons. When I go back and watch earlier seasons, I can't help but compare earlier seasons to the most recent seasons. And I felt like earlier seasons had more of a little something to them while recent ones are sort of recycled ideas they've already done. For example, the Meredith having a mystery sister she didn't know about. Let's not forget how they wrote April off too. I appreciate that she was at least happy but they wrote it in a way that I didn't really feel fit with April's storyline. Don't get me wrong I love Grey's Anatomy, but I feel like they should just stop making any more seasons. They're ruining so many character developments along with introducing characters that don't matter enough to the plot of the show.

I know that the two story lines have some similarities but most of it is different. Izzy cut his lavd wires because she wanted to save him but instead she killed him. This is my opinion🙃

Okay, I’m just going to say this. I know Justin Chambers wanted out and it left the writers at a bit of a crossroads, but considering that Alex’s relationship with Jo was seemingly in a very good place having just officially becoming married Jo, it just seemed weird for Alex to leave her for a woman who cowardly left him a decade ago, even if it was for his kids. And for Alex to just leave his wife a note and divorce papers is just too much. I know they tried to make him honorable to drop everything for his kids, but for Izzie? It just doesn’t make any sense. Like many others have said, and despite how many unnecessary deaths have occurred on this show, they should’ve just killed Alex.
