Phelps won 8 fricking GOLD medals in those games, in 7 of them he also broke a WR. As stunning as Bolt 100m run were how is that even comes close to Phelps achievement? And for all of those who say that its easy to compete in many events in swimmings how is that almost every top class swimmer competes at most in 2 events and usually in 1 single stroke? Cuz its almost impossible to be that good at those levels in so many different strokes and distances, but Phelps managed to make the impossible possible and for that he absolutley deserves the 1st spot on this list.
@itclientservices5 жыл бұрын
Bolt did 3 events and broke world records in all 3. As for the amount of events, it's literally impossible to be good at more than 4 distances, let alone world record breaking level. In running you have two types of muscles that help, fast and slow twitch muscles. Overtrain one of those muscles and the other suffers. But, if you want to do multiple distances, you're going to need a combination. However, if you do this, you won't have enough of either group, meaning you'll do worse than your competitors. That's why you only see people doing well in 2 events that are a significant distance apart (such as Bolt with his 100/200, Johnson's 200/400, Bekele's 5k/10k).
@dothedeed5 жыл бұрын
You answered your own question. Swimming has lots of strokes over short distances plus multiple relays resulting in 4 times the number of events. The risk of injury is lower since the water supports the body and there's less force on the joints.. Plus 'swimmers bodies aren't as specialized to each event as runners. A Long distance runner is super skinny but a sprinter is muscular. To get 8 medals in track you'd have to run 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000 and a relay. No way to do all that. Would tear muscle and be too exhausted to complete the heats.

@ollie18046 жыл бұрын
Aurelio Feldman Phelps dominated nearly every race he competed in. He won eight gold medals with world records in 6 events. That sounds like perfection to me. Also, the two most intense and impressive wins in the history of swimming and sports in general imo belong to Phelps, beating France in the 4x100 relay and beating Cavic by .01 seconds.
@bellamendes20016 жыл бұрын
fhjtyh fghghfh I agree with you. Michael Phelps is my idol for I am a swimmer myself. He is the most decorated and/or has the most medals in history. Can you believe how many Olympic and World records he shattered? And he beat Mark Spitz who used to hold the record of the most medals by any swimmer with 7 gold medals. Michael surpassed it and got 8. I don’t think anybody would be breaking that record for so long. Yes, Bolt is really good but Michael is a legend.

To all you guys saying that Phelps should have been first place instead of Bolt. You should understand that first, you cannot compare one's achievement's in sprinting to that in swimming purely based on the number of gold medals. While yes what Phelps did was out of the world, never repeated, his achievement in Beijing is defined by the 8 gold medals he won that olympics, not by one singular event. But Bolt captured the world with only one event, and he won it in such a style that will definitely not be repeated. So that's why the top moment belongs to Bolt, it shows so evidently how much better he is compared to the others.
