The bigger watch brands all manufacturer quartz watches. That is the default movement type these days. The majority of sales are quartz. Even some of the enthusiast brands are doing more inexpensive quartz watches. I have a few quartz watches (prefer mechaquartz), but I certainly don't like them as much as my mechanical and winding watches. To me, a quartz watch lacks the necessary quality of being a work of art that the mechanical and winding watches offer. Having watches that run on tiny little bits of momentum and keep going for literally a few days is a miracle of human engineering. Put a battery in there and the magic is gone. Besides, a hand ticking once every second just kind of annoys me now. I love a smooth second hand, especially in some of the Swiss high beat movements. And as for the PRX? No contest. Go automatic.

I'm really glad you made this video! Quartz watches doesn't get the attention they deserve especially among enthusiasts. Ok, so some of these on the list were quite predictable. G-shock and Eco-Drive actually represent a few thousand watches 😂 You make a great point of getting the quartz version of watches if the manufacturer offers it. I have a Tissot PRX and Gentleman both in quartz. I decided that the extra details and features on the auto version were not worth the extra money. For a solid brand such as Tissot, it is perfectly safe getting the quartz version because they simply don't put out a bad watch. The dials on both those quartz Tissots are stunning. I am an older guy, started before quartz watches/watches resembling Christmas trees/watches that resemble a large Tarantula on the wrist. Have wanted a wrist watch that tells time reliably, doesn't have to be fiddled with every day to work (windups), has to be remembered to be worn or it dies (automatic), doesn't have to required full concentration to put on (certain metal strap watches). When I looked for quartz watches that resembled classic automatic and windup watches, it has turned out that the watch makers don't make them. My girlfriend has a Rollex. She loves it. She paid $700 for a periodic overhaul last year. I can afford to purchase a couple of Rolex watches. However, what I did was buy used, clean, quartz dress watches 30 years old and put new leather bands on them. Not surprisingly, they keep excellent time.

Good call on the Eco-drive. I've got a Citizen Avion that is in my top 3 in wrist time. Good looking flieger-style watch that is among the most legible in my collection. I'd also say that Bulova Precicionistwatvhes deserve at least an honorable mention here. Bulova, in general, is a sleeper brand that deserves more recognition.

Quartz definitely has its place in my collection even though I prefer automatic or manual wind watches. My dress watch is an old Omega Seamaster from the early 80s and is quartz. I don’t wear it often so quartz is perfect and the battery ensures it’s extremely thin so it perfectly fins under my cuff.

My Pilot was the first "themed" watch I ever bought. I absolutely love mine!

Love my quartz watches and my favourite is my Omega AT with the grey dial. Bought it used and it still looks new. I also have a Grand Seiko quartz that is great but as with many GS watches there is no lume. I have the Citizen diver from your list and the PRX. My Bulova Lunar Pilot that I purchased used was just a little big so was moved on last year. So many watch snobs dismiss quartz watches out of hand which is sad. Every collection needs both quartz and mechanical examples. Great wee video.

How fitting for this to come out right now! I'm in the process of picking out a Casio Oceanus T200 for my Dad as a birthday present, and am surprised and happy to see it on this list.

I wish there were more perpetual calendars available. I wanted a basic quartz diver and ended up getting an older Seiko SBCM023. For a grab and go watch, knowing the date is also right is great.

Casio Duro. Screw down crown, 200m water resistance, easy to read dial, smooth 120 click bezel. A lot of watch for the money. ($50 USD) I've got two, one black/silver, and one black, silver, and gold. Ive also got a casio G-Shock mudmaster digital that is a positive beast. Ive literally hosed it down at the end of a particularly filthy days work. Beast

The Certina DS Action Precidrive have really good specs and well built for the money . I bought a couple ( one to gift) of the Sunray blue now discontinued model 41 mm for like £240 ! Retail was £550. The Citizen Eco Drive diver is also excellent for the money with many choices of colours . Lastly I would add the Tissot Gentleman Titanium quartz. At 90 grams, titanium case and bracelet, sapphire Crystal and Swiss quartz movement those can be bought for under USD 400!

I sold my automatics but one which was my first “proper” watch, love quartz, durable, accurate, affordable, and thanks to seikos vh31 the sweep of a mechanical. QUARTZ for LIFE

Jodi, as always a great video. A fine list, may I suggest to the viewers that Victorinox also makes lots of fine quartz, I happen to own one and it's crazy accurate as well as very durable.

Quartz all the way for me for all the reasons you mentioned (plus accuracy; did you mention accuracy?). I now only have 3 autos and they are only used occasionally. I suspect the autos may be leaving next time they need maintenance. This will leave me with 1 mechanical watch which will never leave my collection. a 1955 Titoni that was my Fathers and is still completely reliable and very accurate (the little talked about advantage of mechanical compared to automatic).

Great to see Certina get a mention. I love my DS Action Precidrive Chrono

I like quartz for its accuracy. I recently purchased an Alpina Startimer Pilot Chronograph. I just checked it today. In the two months or so I've owned it it is less than a second off. That's right up there with my Lunar Pilot and my Seiko SSG017 which is radio controlled. That Yema is gorgeous. Too bad it's only 39mm. With my seven and a half inch wrist I feel that small watches look like toys on me.

I have a load of Casio and I love em all. I also own a Lunar pilot which is a phenomenal watch and an Armitron Gold Griffy which is a lovely slice of nostalgia. Toyed with getting a PSR but I've told the missus I'm buying no more watches. Just one more watch indeed! 😂

Tissot PR100 quartz, chronometer version (sadly discontinued). Mine gains about 5 seconds a year! And the brushing of the case is superb.
