The problem is that they have no clue how to research an existing character and use them properly. For this example, we will use Drift. When he debuted in the IDW comics, he was a sword-wielding robot whose alternate mode was loosely based on a Japanese-styled Drift racing vehicle. He was not yellow-faced, nor did he dress like a samurai, and he did not speak in broken-English with a thick Japanese dialect.

One of the main issues that I had was how they portrayed Hot Rod in the movies. Drift being changed into a samurai autobot didn't really bother me. If anything, it made his character a bit cooler for me, and that idea of him being a samurai carried on into RiD. As for Hot Rod, that was when the iceberg that was holding my hopes for Hot Rod being a good character just collapsed. I mean Hot Rod being French!? Now at this point, it seems like I'm being a hypocrite. Lemme explain. Drift was cool because he had enough lines for him to speak in order for me to like his character. He's just such a badass character and I loved his actions sequences when he appeared even though he lacked some. Him being a samurai just kinda makes me like him a bit more than his G1 counterpart (not hating at all on the G1 Drift btw) and in a way, it made sense. Hot Rod however was a mess. I mean sure, with Drift, I was fine with it, him being a samurai in the movies and being a ninja (I think) in G1. Same sort of fighting style with the swords and flips that he does, but with fucking Hot Rod being French? Hell no. It just didn't feel like the G1 Hot Rod. He didn't even have the same cool personality as he did in G1. He was just a bland character, which is why I didn't like him as much as I thought I would. He barely had any lines, and all we saw him do was slow down time, which was okay, but it doesn't really make him cooler or a better character. Even though I was glad Hot Rod was in TLK, it didn't feel like him either. #NotMyHotRod

Just like videogames, Hollywood movies, ect. in anime the characters (in particular female characters) often look attractive for entertainment and artistic purposes, not for us to live that fantasy. And don't forget that a huge percent of women also like to see sexy women as an inspiration. NOW! I don't mind the criticism of the overuse of sex and violence where is not appropriated, like some of this Transformer movies and some animes. I can understand that people want to criticise scenes that don't have anything to do with the movie or anime, that those scenes only exist just for pointless fan services (sex or violence). What REALLY bugs me is when people say that those things are the same as exclusion, degradation, objetification, male supremacy, also a promotion to sadism and violence. There is a difference between criticism and accusations.

Funny enough you call him a child, but you are preaching how G1 is so good, yet it's a children show, and one that doesn't hold up as well. I watched all 6 Transformers movies a couple months ago and here’s how I think each one is: Transformers (2007) is good, it has a good storyline and great cgi. I really liked it Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009) is ok, some parts were good but some could have been better cause they were a bit cringe-worthy Transformers: Dark Of The Moon is awesome. I loved that one. Not only is it my favourite Transformers movie, it’s one of my favourite movies of all time Transformers: Age Of Extinction (2014) is where things really go downhill. I didn’t really like this movie because about half the movie is boring and it has terrible performances Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) was literally just like Age Of Extinction but more confusing Bumblebee (2018) is awesome, that movie keeps the franchise alive So tbh, the franchise should have ended with Dark Of The Moon otherwise it wouldn’t receive so much hatred. Already Michael Bay said he has quit the franchise for good and it was just announced on May 2nd 2020 that there’d be a Transformers 7 releasing on June 24th 2022 based off of Beast

I grew up with Transformers as a kid in the 80's. This new whole Transformers is made for a whole new generation I feel. It did not live up to what I felt a live action movie could be. However I am coming from a point of view from the 80's. If you kids enjoy this movie and it is what YOU grew up with that is great, so be it. It was NOT made for my generation. I will always have G1 cartoons, Movies and toys to sate my satisfaction.

TheGreatXCape the issue with product placement the way Bay goes about it is that the product takes more attention away from the subject we as the audience are supposed to be focusing on which is the transformers, a character, exposition ,etc. We the audience see the product and give that our attention rather than the subject. Also in my own opinion, it feels cheap and shoe horned in rather than slipped in subtly.

In the first movie. The product placement made sense. Since they are in the real world, with real-life objects(Skype, CNN...), and the Transformers took forms they randomly encountered. Although Bumblebee might promote Chevrolet, it was still excusable considering it was Sam who wished it.(Plot relevance.) However, things just got from decent to downright obnoxious in the fourth installment, where KSI who used on-sale sports car as the models for the man-made Transformers. They even had a minutes worth of screen time to advertise the brand of those sports cars. Why didn't just they make original designs?

I liked the bayverse's take on transformers. Mainly it's world building, how it started from only a select few knowing of the transformers existence to the world discovering they exist and welcomed them for the most part to hating them and hunting them. I felt that the movies giving little hints to transformers involvement in the earth's history and how there was a secret society that kept their involvement in wars, and assassinations throughout history under wraps was really cool. But the evolution of the designs of the transformers was not my favorite. The first and second movies had the designs where you could see the parts of the vehicle or technology they were hiding as. The rest of the movies they looked less like robots in disguse and more like just plain old robots. I liked the way the Bumblebee movies updated the g1 looks but added a new coat of paint.

In my opinion I like that the autobots has distinctive looks so we can see difference one from another. That’s why one of the few things I like better in the 4th one is that they introduce very memorable characters (Drift, Hound and so on). The autobots besides Optimus and Bumblebee in the first three I couldn’t remember anyone besides some comic relife characters (jazz, the twins, wheelie) and Ironhide.

These movies are absolutely made from a human perspective and that's why it was good. Almost every point were the reason why I LOVED the first 3 movies. It was a milestone in modern VFX and animation. It's humor was of course juvenile but in a very grown up way. It's not the same as Marvel humor where they tried to joke every time but it ended up as an embarrassing childish moment. The actions weren't easy to follow but just like in real life. If you choose that same way as Marvel did, it will get a goofy cartoonish vibe (which isn't bad either but if you follow a kind of moodboard which fits into this kind of animation). The products were placed directly but gosh...every car has a company which made it. And our world built into advertisings. That's the real world. And it was made for everyone and not just for fans. I became a fan of the whole Transformers franchise because I could easily get into the story without even knowing a single thing about the comics, the toys and so on. And it did this really well. How I know? Because my father, my uncle, my grandmother and my mother also loved these movies without any further knowledge. In contrary to Marvel movies. I think people just follow each others in hating this movie because it became a fashion to hate it...

The design was bad? Umm no, the design was amazing. Even during an absolute huge badass all hands on deck battle, I could easily tell which autobots and decepticons were which. Yes, I would've changed some of the paint colors on some of the characters(ex. Ironhide and Ratchet, who were both red in the g1 movies) but other than that, the design and action was amazing!

Sure there are generic ones but that doesnt explain why Nitro Zeus is a redesign of Shockwave or Berserk is a redesign of Crankcase (at least 4 is sort of excuseable with KSI drones tho not rlly)... Sure, it's okay to see Captain America topless for a short scene, or Star Lord, but when the cinematography takes a ton of time just to show legs, ass and so on, you know something's wrong. Robert Cortez, your a baby. I was ten going on eleven when I saw the first film back in 2007. I knew what happened when I first saw it. The plot on the second sequel became hard to follow for me. Couldn't understand the plots on the films after Revenge of the Fallen because the films began to focus only on action, which is one reason why the franchise now sucks. The last one I saw was the 2014 film. Never saw the last Transformers film because it has the worst reviews for many good reasons.

The Autobots, maybe. Megatron and a few other Decepticons, maybe. But in general, the groups of Deceptions are just metallic robots with no apparent names or even voices in most movies. Several of the Autobots are the same way. They don't even get lines to say...well, except for the minority robots with their special dialogue and voice inflections that let you know they are minorities of humans.

I loved the first movie. It was cool to see the toys/cartoons come to life on the big screen. There were a few small things about it I didn't like but I looked past those. The rest of the films slowly declined in believability.
