@Lxndxnlxnd Max is basically a stand in for the Grinch in this episode, an anti-hero protagonist who by the end of the film has a change of heart. The difference being that the Illumination Grinch isn't well written, he sees Max (the dog in the movie, not Max G) as more of a sidekick and not how a truly evil person would, which sets up a contradiction of him being so heartless that he steals Christmas from the Whos. We also only see that he was just lonely, when he was younger which isn't that good of a backstory (see Rey from the Star Wars sequels), at least the live action movie showed that the Grinch was ostracized, even at the Christmas party midway through the movie, which did make more sense for his hatred. This wasn't a problem in the original because he came across as a complete outsider when the other two painted him as a former resident of Whoville. Max G however, is shown to be a jerk when he goes on about how Burnbot is just a TV, and is outright refusing to listen to Goofball's criticism and believes whatever he says is wrong and wants him gone entirely, serving as a stand in for the Whos (granted Goofball's antics were completely unprompted and jarring when he did them, though they could be great if properly implemented)

Honestly, if it was the animation would just be 3-4 stills of the characters switched back and forth instead of completely and smoothly animated. This is scripted. It’s a story. The entire commentary of the show isn’t just filler, and it’s a bit upsetting seeing people unable to get that. I’m pretty new to Braindump and even I got the point, honestly. Hotdiggetydemon isn’t a basic review channel, he’s a legitimate animator. C’mon now, if this was going to be a normal review there’d just be clips and images of the grinch through the entire video.

i like how there's actually some deeper personal meaning going on in this from the looks of things. not only is goofball personifying max's own self-loathing, but it pushes him to the point where he lashes out against people around him. it's like the self-feeding cycle of loneliness and depression. loneliness causes one to think about why they're lonely, those feelings of inadequacy spiral out of control, and the resulting anger just pushes people further away. and the deepest anxiety of all is losing the people you're closest to, like burnbot. maybe this just resonates with me because i've dealt with depression, but it's pretty well-done as a subversion of a cynical movie review. i'm glad you have the balls to portray this sort of deep personal thing, max. hope you're doing alright.

i dont see an actual protagonist in this story. Goofball is an antagonist as usual, but this time his antagonism leads to hotdiggitydemon becoming the antagonist by de-humanising burnbot. so just two antagonists (one of which is a victim) and a regular victim. then again from another perspective, you could see burn bot as an antagonist anyway if you really do prescribe to hotdigitydemon's idea here, in that he DOES own her, and so she should do what he want, so her leaving instead of talking things out is its own problem. and i guess if you take goofball's perspective he's a victim as he's just trying to spice up the show and make it interesting. and then, of course, he could also be a protagonist as he defends burnbot. man this plot got complicated in less than ten minutes.

This show is by and large the most intelligent and self aware animated series on KZbin. Not even sure if all this episode was entirely an analogy to the grinch or not, but it certainly had subtext that lead that way, and others which to me are left completely indecipherable. The cool thing is that the self aware-ness transcends the standard meta. It's not just recognizing there's an audience on top of a canon. Its recognizing itself recognizing the audience within the canon. Good shit. Your efforts are (at least partly) not in vain my friend.

This I feel like is how the Grinch SHOULD have been told. Sure you don’t have to have the new Grinch follow beat for beat the old Grinch, but you DO have to make him a villain. Even if it’s just a villain we understand, but don’t necessarily condone the actions of. Perfect examples shown in this review. What SHOULDN’T the Whos be?: Characters who go out of their way to bother, pester, and annoy the Grinch. It’s OK to not want to be a social butterfly or be around the entire town. No one would be surprised if someone told a Who to fuck off after being annoyed like the Grinch is. Like Goofball in this. Obviously Max would get annoyed, we don’t condone that and in fact find it almost justifying! What SHOULD the Whos be?: BurnBot. They should be BurnBot. Innocent bystanders caught up in the rage and anger of a Grinch. Similar to how the dog in the OG Grinch was nothing more than an innocent bystander, when you see the Grinch act angrily towards him you the viewer feel bad for the dog. And you should feel bad for the Whos but in the new Grinch you really don’t. The Whos, or at least like the child one, should be completely innocent, and be put down by the Grinch. What’s what makes us hate him more than our dislike or annoyance at The Whos. You can consider the Whos maybe annoying or too chipper or maybe too happy, but that shouldn’t outweigh the absolute dislike for the Grinch. Like it does in the new movie, at least for me. That could have made the new Grinch a true villain and a better character, in ways similar to the old Grinch but with new more thought out experiences and lessons in it. It was never about just disliking a holiday and being slightly ticked off at your neighbors, like how the new Grinch wants it to be, but rather watching someone become more and more destructive and pessimistic and violent until finally going out of their way to make innocent people and loved ones as miserable as they feel while still trying to maintain their pride and sense of being right. The OG Grinch I personally feel didn’t give a flying leap about Christmas. He just wanted to take the happiness away from the Whos because he didn’t like them, not because they were in his face or overly loud, but because he’s an asshole who doesn’t want people to be happy. Which meant destroying Christmas, because it’s what they loved. It was never about him hating decorations or trees or the holiday dinner or the presents. If the Whos hated Christmas I’m sure the Grinch would be celebrating it every day. That’s not the point. It’s a shame how such a simple lesson could be lost on Illumination who surely watched and knew of the old Grinch. Hell even the live action Grinch got some of that right too with how the Grinch was teased as a child and it made him lash out at an innocent Who that had nothing to do with that and his dog. It showed him being an asshole, taking his anger out on his dog, a little girl, and a whole town as his anger grew more and more. It just happened to be Christmas. The core lesson wasn’t “Love Christmas because it’s a season about loving or whatever.” it was more so “Don’t be a dick, don’t take out your anger on others, be kind and considerate, learn forgiveness, cherish those around you, and happiness will find you.” or something along those lines. This episode of BrainDump was a more satisfying and Grinch-y tale than the new Grinch was. This was like the first half of what the new Grinch movie should be and it’s only 10 minutes.

I had a bad feeling if Illumination was going to be too lazy to not change the aspect of the movie but be too greedy and make the grinch a bad guy whos actually nice, sweet, loving, caring, and just wants to get fun back at people making fun of him. Meaning the story will still be the grinch (whos just super nice) is away from whos(who are the rude townsfolk trope) and grinch showing us his history and actions of bad stuff(lol you mean his sad justified to be angry at who backstory) and the way he treats his dog(supports more then a man would to his wife, whitch yes you can say that about most dog owners but thats a sign of how much they care). Then its gonna do the big heart ending where he realizes its wrong to ruin the christmas of the innocent whoes even though because they need to be good at marketing the guy on the screen MUST be a charming chump and is against the rude dudes, it all falls apart.

arguably the live action version did it a bit nuanced by not having the whos be one thing: Cindy Lou Who was a pure innocent who wanted to help the Grinch because she felt there was more to thim than meets the eye, the mayor was a pure asshole who pretty much turned the Grinch into who he was, and CIndy's father was a well meaning guy but who still caved to the public opinion of the grinch and who just tried to lower his ehad and enjoy christmas. and then we have the Grinch who is an utter jackass but is STILL hilarious (mostly cause he's the butt of many jokes, since he's an asshole). Arguably the live action movie did the same the recent movie did (expand on Whoville and its inhabitants and give more backstory to the grinch), but didn't forget the Grinch was supposed to be an unlikable heel (or at the very least, be brought to the point where he'd be at his very worst) and while there were some genuine shitheads he had a real beef with, he ultimately included people uninvolvved with his grudge to make them suffer too.

I dont think Brain Dump is a show about movie reviews. Its about Max Gilardi. Sure, sometimes he actually wants to talk about movies. But i dont think thats what this show is anymore, the depressed and anxiety-filled cartoonist behind this is trying to represent himself as a whole with this show. The show is very much about the characters and i think they all represent or atleast somewhat resemble a part of Max. Goofball is pretty much his own snarky self criticizm in a 'character form'. I think BurnBot resembles his creativity and love for expressing himself visually, he himself calls her the visual part of the show. Then the character of Max that we see is i think just Gilardis brutally honest depiction of how he sees himself. A creepy, overanalytical geek who is trying to do a show for youtube with 'BurnBot' and is constantly berated by his own 'Goofball'. I might be just overthinking this idunno. But maybe Max Gilardi actually wants to just 'dump' his thoughts, opinions and self-deprication that are in his mind, or maybe we should say his 'brain'.

Woah, this episode is great! Considering how Max's opinion on the new grinch seems typical and unlike it could add anything to the already boundless critique of the film and studio who produced this garbage film, he hid this behind a wall of clever analogies while producing some extra characterization for a character only briefly ever interacted with or mentioned outright. Not to mention adding to Max's portrail in the brain dump series as the "flat, witty critic that spouts his opinion on the topic at hand", expanding it into a more fleshed out version of himself. Even goofball got a slight bit of extra depth here, all the while remaining true to what goofball is, a comic relief providing side character for Max to bounce off of while breaking up boring word soup-y parts of past reviews. All this while still technically keeping in line with giving an opinion on the grinch. Good work, Max. Hope to see this side plot develop further in your next episode.

@@chocodoll5483 there was a supposed leak back in October that revealed the remaining unannounced fighters. It was called "the Grinch leak" because there was a bunch of Grinch merchandise in frame, supposedly because this was in an advertising firm. It turned out to be fake though.

@@chocodoll5483 there's a guy who made a leak of smash ultimate by uploading a photo of the big art with all the character with new ones, we call it the "grinch leak" cause there's a picture of the grinch behind the poster.

Randy grinch had nothing to do with “Brain Dump’s destruction beyond repairing”, heck, not even goofball had any fault on this, he never had the intention to force max to say that, it was all Max’s fault. I know this was all an animation so max didn’t really do that but in the animation he was asshole
