RDJ is the best actor of this generation. Very talented, hilarious, and he hasn't let the fame go to his head. No one else is so well-known yet still so down-to-earth.

Tarit Vepari Johnny Depp is awesome too, but based on percentage of roles I enjoy, he's got nothing on RDJ. I mainly just like Fear and Loathing and the Pirates of the Carribean movies. There might be some I'm forgetting. I've never watched many of DiCaprio's movies, but he DOES seem to be pretty good. I've been meaning to catch up on some of his more recent movies.

Really? What about Will Smith? Other than After Earth, I can't think of any movie he has been in that wasnt a success. Not only that but atleast Will Smith is known for more than just acting. He was a rapper (and a good one) in the 90s. I honestly couldn't count more than 4 or 5 movies RDJ has been in, and that's including the Iron Man/Avenger movies, aka the same character over and over. So "this generation" does not apply to what you said.

The thing about RDJ is he knows he can do all this stuff and he loves to show it all off but (And I think this comes partly from everything he went through with his drug use and recovery) he a genuinely nice person and shows off because we know he's just doing it for fun and we enjoy it. He and Tony Stark are the same person but more like at the end of Iron Man 3 than the beginning of 1.

Yeah, the only laughs he gave in that movie were the cringe-y kind. It was weird to see him not playing a weasel or a smartass--he was just a regular guy who missed his ex and tried so hard (but failed) to connect with his daughter and the kids in his school, He was the woobie in that movie and that's not common for him, but he played it beautifully. Moment of shallow: As Nathan Gardner, he was super sexy in the smart-guy glasses. And as usual, he's gorgeous when he cries.

One of my favourite moments of him as Iron Man was when he raged with his repulsors after watching the news feed on the Middle East. Then he suits up, too pissed and convicted to bother with any risk to his life. Despite being a master of the vernacular, I find him silent and acting with his eyes to be even more remarkable. I'm disappointed that we don't get to see much of that since, most times Tony's fooling around. If they ever tackle the Demon in a Bottle storyline I'm almost certain it'll be one of Marvel's best.

Listen, I think that people over-react on Downey's performance. It's not amazing. It's slightly acceptable. The reason why there is not much complains about it, is simply because - currently, there is nothing to compare him in any kind of medium, except the comics, and most of the people aren't that familiar with the original Tony Stark character. I clearly can see that someone takes off this role, and even doing much better job. I don't think he gave as great, as iconic, as magnificent performance that Christopher Reeve gave. So, I find it pretty arrogant, when people that aren't familiar with character behind movies, claiming Downey as a perfect embodiment of the character. Which is far, far, far, FAR away from the truth. Tony Stark is one of the most darkest and controversial marvel-heroes EVER! He had gone through more damages at every possible point that could be imagine, physically and mentally, than any others. He was mostly alone, and you could slightly tell that he even had a real friends. Even Rhodey was tired of Tony at one point. Tony pushed away everybody around him. Howard Stark was an drunk jerk, who abused Tony and Maria. And he was one who was responsible for Tony becoming alcoholic. Kinda similar to Downey's life, but his own experience didn't helped him with lack of talent. When he was dying because his nervous system was unbelievably damaged because of Mars's twins, he fall in in love with Dr. Su Yin, and he knew that he will die, he waned to marry her, but then, he saw that her husband was cripple, and he left her alone, and decided to sacrifice his own desires for someone else. One time Pepper asked him for killing Happy, (Happy and Pepper were couples in comics), because Happy became a Flatliner after a fight with Spy-Master, and he said once to her, that he would rather die, than have life like this. And Tony eventually killed him, by turning-off the life support system, while reciting the prayer. When Cap died, he stood in front of his body and through tears he said '''It wasn't worth it''. I disagree with everything and everybody around this particular subject and topic. Downey is overrated and over-praised. He always played same type of characters. Cocky, funny, happy douchebag. Yeah, it requires a huge amount of acting abilities and skills, to play what he is in real life. I saw only one GODDAMN movie, when he played different character. Just name to me one movie with him, that would made me shed a tear. That girl from ''Pan's Labyrinth'' showed better acting abilities and emotions in that one movie, then Downey ever showed through his whole carer. And she was only eleven-years old at that time. Maybe it was to hard to Downey, to play mature, complicated, serious, confident person, as Tony Stark supposed to be in the comics. Downey did not show allot of the key elements from characters mythos. He doesn't feel at all like an outcast and loner. He is not out of the crowd. He doesn't feels like he is this guy. Who is the most wealthiest man in 'merica, who can have whatever he wants, but at the same time, he has nothing. He have no friends, no one to turn to. Very pessimistic. Darkness is an important thing in this character. I don't think that accent on his struggles as a human being was real or interesting. It was just randomly put for the sake of.... ''because...''. It was rudimentary thing that didn't change the character. He feels like a character from a sitcom. No matter what will happen, at the end everything will be the same. No development, no growth no consequences. Nope it don't work. They just give it to him, but, it's not working, it doesn't feel natural. At every struggle that he gone through, he was supposed to evolved as a character. He forget to show one of the most important things. The starting point, motivation, anger, pain, guilt, regrets, self-disgust. I understand that 15-year old fangirls of Jr, who get their paints wet when you only mention his name, would not like that their idol plays a mentally broken individual. But that the truth about the character. This movies did not showed the motivation. The Guilt. They made Stark's life to much easier. Original Stark from comics was so alone. He kept his pain inside and did not share it with anyone. That what makes him so iconic and humanized. Downey Jr's version makes Stark look like some kind of superstar with a ego bigger than elephants dig. It's so cheesy. Downey is slightly reletable, and makers are just to afraid to do something different and to go with some risks with his character, because, at some parts he could come out as an unlikable, they don't want to hurt their milk-machine, they don't want to look deeper, they want to show only the outer shell and showing her to the audience through rose-colored glasses, show only facade, but no the human. But that is the part of human nature, doing wrong, being unlikable. And that is what Tony Stark character is in the comics. Movie-Stark/Downey is a bland archetypal stereotype about egocentric narcissists. They forgot to give the motivation and struggles to his character. Without the motivation, character do not seems as three dimensional. So many moments worked bad, and the character is not present with weighty motivation. At allot of points and characters perspectives. It didn't had a slightly sign of any kind of depth. The emotional sensitivity had only touched only one character aspect, but never had gone through more. The essential part of entertainment is based on simple structure such as just trying to keep attention and interest of the public by using cheap tricks. The emotions which represent such a thing as hurt, depression and anger, cannot be cheap and in right context they aren't supposed to be a part of entertainment, but more a part of a cohesive development of the characters evolving. Downey had never evolved and changed. He always was the same character all over again. He field more like a character from the sitcom. So there is slightly can be some talks about imaginary depth in his character. ''Posttraumatic stress disorder'' is one of the most bad written, bad-develop, poorly executed aspects in Irony-Man 3. It's not the worst thing that is wrong with this movie, but it's definitely pointlessness. It has no emotional impact. This particular thing was randomly put to screen, without any weighty purpose, it starts out on a nowhere, and lead up to the nowhere. Bad start, no conclusion. This is redundant and pointlessness. Hero should go through a real struggle, and this struggle is supposed to be an important plot focus and supposed to lead to some conclusion, that will affect the entire mythology. If the main struggle of the main character is only a rudimentary plot-point, made only for laughs, and it will not affect the entire important movie-segment, then it's pointlessness. When Pepper supposedly dies, he only ''stares'', and then, he throws a slapstick joke. The good actor would not try to translate the entire feeling of this circumstances in a stare. If that was a real person, he would scream through tears something like ''I'll kill you!'', not with straight stoned face said ''Hey, you know, you was right. I didn't deserve her. But she already was perfect''. When your woman falls from a great high into the abyss of fire and most likely dies by a horrible death, i think if you are normal human being, you would feel something more beyond ''sadness''. There's no hidden motive in his actions on multi-dimensional level, it's actually means, that on a different circumstances he has same response. Downey is not able to sell to me a single emotion that goes beyond just being ''funny''. He feels only comfortable in slapstick, formulaic comedy. That's the part of the reason why he waned so desperately Shame Black for Iron Trash 3. Because someone else would waned to see some real emotions from him.

Out of morbid curiosity, whom would you have cast as Tony Stark? I frankly can't see anyone else in the role, but I didn't read the comics; I'm only familiar with one of the earlier animated shows and the current films. I have glanced at a few different "Iron Man" articles on wikipedia, but I understand you will likely not count those as terribly relevant. I think your assessment of his acting abilities is a bit harsh, but he does seem to be typecast. That's not necessarily a bad thing, if the actor can make it work. Johnny Depp is pretty much to the point of being cast for any weird character who still needs to be like-able, and I don't think anyone could play Captain Jack Sparrow as well as he did. Of course that did lead to the mistake of "Stranger Tides" but I choose to pretend the series ended with "At World's End". So I do cede to you the argument of the "evil marketing machine" as it were, in regard to studios becoming too timid to break out of the box and ruin their cash-flow.

KnightsaysNi More correct question would be (and which would perfectly fine fit the overall context) - Not exactly which particular actor I would waned to see to take of this role, rather then, would which acting abilities it required to play Tony Stark character as he suppose to be. I don't know for which of reasons, somehow it could be seemed to you, like i was acting harsh. Maybe it's because not everyday someone immediately writes two-some hundred lines of text, for the sake to criticizing an acting abilities of the actor that Most people do love. The point of my post was based around dome particular subject, and that is, when everybody who aren't familiar with the source and original mythology and makes uneducated statements, claiming something in undeniable perfection, but while, just simply playing immature and misunderstanding of the subject matter. This comment is my expression for my disagreement with the general subject. Speaking of which, i should go back to the main topic. I'm not going to make a list of where I am going to present some specific features of characters, and give from my personal perspective some points, that in my view seem correct and truthful. In any context, in any sense , you can find countless benefits in all sorts of contradictory things. Result depends on point of view. And well... I would definitely waned to see some talented actor, in habits which are not observed shades metroseksualizm and mannerism. With a face of a just an straight, ordinary guy, and not sexy archetype. With capability to represent a different amount of different emotional perspectives, and made them naturalistic and reletable. I would waned to see complicated, complex, well-explored, well-executed, well-played and well-concluded character. Who is able to grounded and humanized the character, and brought it down to our level, so we can look into his eyes and see ourselves, and even feel sorry for him. Because when I was a kid, and I read ''The Invincible Iron-Man'', I thought that Tony Stark - is the most miserable person on the Earth. He never had strong relationships with a woman's, friends as well. He always suffered mentally and physically. He had pretty disturbing childhood. He wasn't adorable and people were more afraid of him, rather then cheering for him, like he some rockstar. One time Tony had loosed his whole company and he became a bum. He pushed away everybody around him because of his alcoholism. One time he start dying because of armor exposure. One time he became a cripple. One time Mars Company had take over control of his nervous system, and start control Tony's actions. Then, he started dying because of the damages that was done to him. Downey - it's just another perfect archetype, who's fun to watch, but to which no one will ever be able to personify with. People mostly claim Downey for being fun and entertaining. But the truth is, the character had gone through more and had had evolved. Tony Stark is more than that. Judging the acting abilities and quality of the overall performance at every necessary aspect by saying ''entertaining'' it's the most rudimentary pseudo-argument that could be given around the subject. Jim Cary's performance in ''Dumb & Dumber'' maybe was ''thoroughly entertaining'', but it doesn't automatically mean that it was ''great'' on every possible level. But something like Liam Neeson's performance in Schindler List wasn't that, as that movie itself. It was heartbreaking, stunning, depressing and inspiring at the same time. And you also incorrectly incorporated the main subject matter. Which is ridiculously out of the context, and makes no sense whatsoever, because, I make it clear to which particular source I was referring. An well-educated person would understand it in a first place. I presented some specific features which explains all of my negativity and concerns. Why you want me to answer to you by repeating the same segment matter that was presented earlier?. The last point is pretty bad comparison and it's really doesn't describe and depicts subject, and doesn't overshadow the entire meaning of my original point. Jack Sparrow is an original character created specifically for the movie, while, Tony Stark is an iconic Marvel-Hero, that was around for five decades, was include into a biggest story events, and had appeared in other mediums. and has dozens of a different variations and depictions, but had always remain the main core from his originally established mythology. My point originally was simple - I Ain't to try to convince people that Downey suck, and that they should change their mind. My point was to explain to people, to not make any kind of premature judgments based solely on personal preferences and lack of knowledge, while not being in details familiar with the subject himself, and making indisputable claiming about something, with no idea of thin, important aspects, and think in that way, because... Because i decided so. Even if it's irrational. Conclussion: I don't care if you like Downey, if you want to marry him, if you even want to sniff his shit. But don't say that he is perfect fit for the character. Like they are identical. That nobody can replace him. And so on an on. Because, it's far away from the actual truth. You have you Downey, i have my real Tony Stark on a printed page. The End.

SepticGod Well, you showed me, didn't you? I apologize for being so stupid as to misinterpret your comment, but it sounded more like a rant about how Downey was mis-cast instead of him not "portraying the part properly". It felt as though the stab was at his ability to convey depth in any role, not just for this particular one. I would argue that this version of "Iron Man" was written for Downey, as Capt. Jack was written for Depp. I suppose my comparison for type-casting was inaccurate, as Depp has typically played...odd characters; while you stated Downey mainly plays the same character over and over. I suppose the argument can be made Depp does so with more depth, but he is still sought out for those particular parts. I do hope I've managed to clear up my initial post, and I empathize with you not getting the "Iron Man" you would have liked to see.

KnightsaysNi >Well, you showed me, didn't you? You decide. Did I, or didn't. I just presented some specific segments token from my personal viewpoint and from the real facts. Your personal perception and judgment - that's your concern. I just gave to you and to others, rational ground, over which you have to build your own viewpoint, and then analyze each important specific aspect, and then come to a logical conclusion. >I apologize for being so stupid as to misinterpret your comment, but it sounded more like a rant about how Downey was mis-cast instead of him not "portraying the part properly". It felt as though the stab was at his ability to convey depth in any role, not just for this particular one. Your sarcasm is rudimentary and is completely out of context. I represent my believes, in any context as i want, and in the order of words in which I'm feel comfortable, i'm not paying attention to the overall perception of others, if i don't see a reason for that. In this context, i didn't. And if we take attention to the fact in which contrast you responded to me, I think I made the right choice. The original motive that inspired me for this particular post, was originally inspired by those, so call '''Marvel-Movie-Fanboys and girls''. That always like to judge, claim something, while not being that really familiar with the entire subject itself. I read those sort of irrational statements from them all the time. And it's get me annoying. They just bring up so many controversial subjects, that I will not be able to respond on them in couple of lines. I try to depend on rational analysis and open point of view. So that is my justifying why i write all this. If nobody want's to talk about this, then, i will take this responsibility. And doesn't matter how much people would disagree with me. I changed the direction of the surface of some directional segments of context. Since I decided to dig into more rational underpinnings, and dig into more detailed view of a common understanding, a general-purpose context that was given to me. But at the same time, I kept the original sense of rationale of the original subject. If you will look at the initial value of the context, and the direction in which I originally moved there very clearly shows that I still referred to the original subject, which, as you say, I was ignored. Like I only criticize Downey acting abilities, and not that he is the guy from printed page. Which neither of this subjects was my original concern. My opinion is over-all critically, and has motivated purely negative. And it's still my opinion. Listen, I provide weighty arguments based on actual facts, to improve my opinion. I am in minority of those who do not like Robert Ddowney Jr, but it doesn't mean, that I cant prove why I dislike him. My personal statement was based on my personal dislike of the actor , and his image, of my favorite character. I didn't find nothing interesting in his filmography, that would made me thing, ''Yeah. This guy is awesome'', but, no. He didn't impress me in any of his roles. He always played same type of characters. Cocky, funny, happy douchebag. Wow! Yeah, it requires a huge amount of acting abilities and skills, to play what he is in real life. That girl from ''Pan's Labyrinth'' showed better acting abilities and emotions in that one movie, then Downey ever showed through his whole carer. And she was only eleven-years old at that time. No movie with him didn't made me shed a tear or made me feel sorry for him. Or made me afraid of him. He was nominated for an Oscar for Tropic Thunder, when he played white dude, that played black dude. And now he thinks that he is black dude... Wow! ''We fuckin lost Ma, We fuckin lost!''. *Clap-clap-clap-clap Oscar wining performance right there. First of all: Tony in the comics, mostly, was portrayed as much more complicated, serious, depressed, dark human being with allot of personal problems. Did Downey showed something of that? - Nope. The most tragic and darkest aspect of Tony's persona was his alcoholism, and his self-destructive behavior, did wee saw something of that in his perfomance - media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mczk9qGtSo1qeg0r3.png media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8229iV9MF1qfzhnw.png media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m822e2BSFh1qfzhnw.png static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/12/125570/3205432-9911768371-Feari.jpg No! Instead of that, we got this shit - i99.beon.ru/firepic.org/images/2013-05/11/naqhgujwivl9.gif First of all, as far as I know, Jon Favreau himself stated many times that the originally, the studio did not waned Downey for the role, and they wanted someone younger. So, it is very unlikely that the role was originally written for him. He was just lucky to play it. Prior to the first film, Downey was an actor up the second class. And most of his previous works were disasters of cinemamatography. Gothik. Shaggy Dogg. ''Kiss Kiss My Ass'' bombed. Even if many liked it. So, like I stated before. It's an irrational comparison and it's completely different case. > I do hope I've managed to clear up my initial post, and I empathize with you not getting the "Iron Man" you would have liked to see. Oh, so for now you try to assume me in that typical accusation that I only a stupid fanatic who didn't get what was on a printed page. And whiny about that. Well, i would be a complete hypocrite if if didn't said, that i waned to see some elements from the source material, that i have passion about, brought up to the screen. You know, i would not mind a true Mandarin from the comics on a big screen, yeah, fuck me for that. Fuck all of us, stupid nerds. Yeah, fuck the fact, that actually we were the original audience for the those characters before they ever had hit the mainstream. Fuck us for the fact, that we keep those characters alive through five decades. Fuck us for buying every week those stupid magazines with terrible drawings, and reading them with passion. Fuck our love for the character and their mythology. Fuck what we want, nobody cares what we want. Right now, pretty much everybody shitts on Maquire's performance in Spider-Man films. And I have as much problems with that, as you do with me. Because, i love the dude. I thought he was great. And i almost every day defending his performance from those Amazing Sissy-Fanboys. But the difference is. Yes, i think that he is better than Edward Collin with anorexia problems, from the new films. But i would never said that Maquire was the best interpretation of the character ever. That he is perfect on every possible level. That he is Spider-Man in real life. No, he wasn't. I just enjoyed him for what he was. And I never overreact on him, like saying he cannot be replaced. And he was born to play it. He was good in a what he was give to do. If people would just said, that they like Downey's perfomance. He was good at role. He isn't exactly like the comics-Tony, but he stll enjoyable to watch. I would be perfectly fine with that. ....But screaming in a full through ''Robert is Tony. He made this character. He is perfect. Nobody will ever replace him. He is an perfect embodiment for the Tony Stark, they are exactly the same.'' Now that's from were all my problems go. Ok, this is what i'm going to say, as a last words. You like Downey. You like movies. You can like whatever you want. I don't care. I have my personal point of view on things, you have yours. The End. I hope, we will end on that. I hope... Because, i have also a dozens of others people with whom i'm arguing right now.
