My favorite barrier cream that you didn’t mention here is the Avene Cicalfate+ cream. It’s a fave for those with perioral dermatitis or rosacea but great for anyone with an impaired barrier! Zinc is among a bunch of powerhouse ingredients included and my skin is SO GOOD the morning after using this.

Looove love love the soon Jung 2x cream my skin gets red and rough easily now that it’s starting to get really cold in NY. Soon Jung makes it sooo soft and still breathable in one use! I also think you’d love their sleeping pack! It has a Vaseline/dimithicome like texture very occlusive but super velvety and soft perfect for slugging! (I think it’s different from the balm u mentioned!)

Thank you for the great analysis of various moisturizers. I love oatmeal skin products because they can be applied around my eyes without sting if it gets on the eye. Great content Abbey! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, it’s really helpful! I have rosacea and extremely sensitive, reactive skin. As the commenter above mentioned, I can’t use the LP Cicaplast B5 Baumé without irritation, even though I was using it to heal barrier damage. Of course what works for most people will never work for all people which is completely normal. Would love to see a video that goes a little more in depth about some of the most common ingredients that you highlight that are great for most people, but also touching on if those ingredients can be tricky if you have rosacea or reactive skin. Hope that makes sense.

I’ve been obsessed with the urea ingredient this year. I learned about it from Dr. Dray this summer and it has changed my skin. I have like 5 different creams and lotions with urea in them. I have oily skin on my face and it’s been awesome for a night cream. I had dry feet this summer and it repaired them. My body is dry now that it’s winter and this helps a lot. I use it on my kids who have various skin issues like eczema and keratosis pilaris and overall sensitive skin and it’s been awesome. I got some for my mom. Ingredient of the year for me.

Love a thick cream that calms and nourishes without feeling too occlusive. I can't stand the feeling of balms on the face though! Something like the Cerave, Aquaphor (or anything petrolatum-based on my face feels suffocating. Also, because it just sits on top of the skin it ends up picking up any little dust/lint particles from clothes and whatnot which I can immediately feel sticking to my face and becoming itchy. Not only that, but if you put it on before bed it will get on your pillows and sheets. Sorry, no balms for this face.

From using retin-A. Retin-A increases cell turnover which is a great benefit, but it also pushes old cells on surfaces which sometimes might be irritating, so you need a good a barrier cream. I had your skin a year ago! I would highly recommend going to Apostrophe and getting oral Spironolactone! It regulates sebum production by blocking male androgen hormones. This medication has been a life saver for me! I use topical Tretinoin, and take this oral medication, and my skin texture and sebum production is nearly perfect. I had severe oily skin, blocked pores, and severe cystic acne. I can’t believe how well that medication works. The ONLY side effect I have is a very light increase in urination frequency. They say it can increase your urination because it’s a diuretic, but it’s really slight slight increase. I wish I would’ve taken this medication years ago, it would’ve saved me years of bad skin 😩. They also make a topical Spironolactone cream if you don’t want to take oral medicine. This will be your life saver

We always have a tube of Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream in our house. Nobody has eczema, but the ingredients are really great for dry, irritated skin. It contains 1% Colloidal Oatmeal, Ceramide 3, and Licochalcone (Glycyrrhiza inflata (licorice) root extract). It is fragrance-free as well (and it doesn't have a weird smell like some frangrance-free creams tend to have). It's a 4 on the Eucerine scale of richness, but absorbs and dries down really nicely. Anytime one of my kids complains about a dry patch or starts to itch their skin, we apply this and it always does the trick!

Between you and D. Dray, my skin has never looked better. Although since I’ve been using tretinoin for the past year, my skin also gets sensitive and flaky. What do you do mid day when it starts flaking up, but you’re out in public with a full face of makeup? This is my situation when I’m at work 5 days a week.

I use a moisturizing spray and spray my face. Then when it’s really close to being dry, I pat my face really lightly with a sponge and it refreshes the skin so it’s not dry. And doesn’t mess up the makeup. A dry sponge

Yes, I have the same issue, except without make up, just sunblock. I don’t want to put moisturizer over my sunblock, but don’t want to wash my face an extra time during the day. And I have heard that the face sprays need to be followed up with something occlusive, otherwise the moisture will leave your skin, making it even more dry. And that seems to happen when I have sprayed my face in the past. Right now I just watch the clock until The sun goes down and I can wash my face and moisturize.

Yay! I'm so happy to hear that. If I have flaky skin there's nothing I can do once makeup is on but rubbing an oil over the flakey patches helps to gently remove them & then I follow up with a barrier cream!

I use the Eucerin lotion on my body and it's amazing!! I actually use the thicker cream version on my face and I've been loving it!! It's been esp great to use for sandwiching with my tret! I can't get the cerave healing ointment where I live in Canada but I love the aquaphor healing ointment as an alternative!! Have you ever tried the LRP cicaplaste spray? would love to hear your review on that! love your skincare vids!

We have the baby version of the Cerave Healing Ointment in Canada (I got it at Superstore), and from what I read, it’s pretty much the same thing as the ‘adult’ version, with the ingredients list reordered slightly to accommodate more sensitive skin. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s great! Has really been helping with my eczema, too. I hope that this is helpful if you wanted to try it!

Hi Abbey, I want to thank you for all your helpful hair videos. I am starting to try and fix my hair. Your tips and instructions are amazing. However, this message has nothing to do with hair...lol. I was watching another video and you mentioned how much you love the Hempz Strawberry creme lotion, and I saw it today (11/19), at Ulta!! It must be a holiday treat but, it's back! Hope you have a great few days! I wanted to use your most recent video hoping you'd see it faster. 🙂❤️🍓

You're welcome! If they don't have it in Chicago or on line, I'll send some from Portland, OR! Lol I have a question, just when you have a chance to address it. How do you feel about silk turbans or bonnets and silk eye masks, while sleeping. Also, one thing I've not heard you speak of is the temperature of the water, when you wet/rinse your hair? I've had deep conditioning done and they get the water as cold as I can stand it. For it 'to work'. Just curious if that is a thing to be mindful of. Thank you, again for all your help & knowledge! 🙂

I’m serious when I say the LRP lipikar balm CURED my lifelong eczema. I had atopic eczema for 20 years, and then I started putting that balm all over my body after every shower. I’ve been doing that for four years now, and my eczema is just gone… like what. If you have eczema you NEED to give this a shot because its done wonders for me. I fear the day the discontinue this product for some reason, cause I depend on it so much!! I’ve gone through dozens of bottles already, I just order them in bulk

@@pinkiederijk The LRP cicaplast but only for night as it's very thick and greasy. The Soon jung for day. Illiyoon is the lightest so can be used by most skin types except oily, but the other two are definitely dry skin only level of thickness

Ooh that’s a hard one. Fatty acids are in everything! I have a similar problem with soy being in everything. I can’t use it and I can’t consume it. It’s so hard when you have to dump half your products. Good luck finding something that works! Let us know what you find too.
