I used to have an elaborate korean skincare routine but have since stopped most of my self care (thanks to depression). The hadalabo uv cream is enough for me every morning, just 1 product. At night I use the soonjung hydrobarrier cream and layer on a retinol moisturiser. Thats like the best my depression is allowing me, lol. Some days I just skip the night products but if i leave house, i try to at least have the hada labo one on.

I'm constantly surprised by how many regular products I use on advice from Dr Dray! The Hado Labo White Gel SPF 50+ is my favourite Japanese sunscreen I use on an almost daily basis and have shared with friends. Now I buy 6 pots twice a year for myself, mum and two friends. My friend with eczema who cannot tolerate sunscreen uses this daily because she doesn't realise it's sunscreen ☺ My go to extreme moisturiser for calming and restore in winter is LRP Cicaplast Baume B5, in summer it's Aveeno Moisturising Gel

When my skin is irritated in the winter, my go to used to be Vaseline and Cetaphil. However, nowadays it has been La Roche Posay Lipikar Lotion or Balm (and Cicaplast Baume on occasions). Recently been dabbling in Avene, Mustela, Uriage, etc, but my safe bet is La Roche Posay Lipikar (or Cicaplast) for the most part. Oh forgot to mention, I do keep a pot of CeraVe moisturizing cream just in case the pharmacy doesn't restock it asap because it's just that good. So you could say my winter or dry skin staples are La Roche Posay Lipikar lotion/balm and CeraVe cream.

Update: My skin type is normal/combo with oily T-zone with some dryness and dehydration due to tretinoin. The hydro barrier cream was nice and hydrating, but it mostly sat on my skin and made my pores feel congested. It also gave me some closed comedones. The 2x barrier cream is quite light and has a nice consistency, blends in well too, but I don't think shea butter gets along with my skin very well so I ended up returning both of those. BUT, I also tried the Soon Jung Cica Balm and I loved it! it's very light and slightly mattifying. Overnight it got rid of all my redness, and my skin looked bright and refreshed. It's not hydrating enough on its own for me though, so I would use it as the last step after your regular moisturizer.

The best things for that is to cut out any actives and only wash your face once a day. I got stuck in a vicious cycle that I couldn't leave without my face getting all this flaking skin, and the ticket out was oil cleanser (massaging for 3 minutes and then rinsing off), to get rid of all that shit, without falling into the trap of again using actives that caused the issue in the first place (too much going on at once). Skincare has a number of vicious cycles to be wary of.

my top skin barrier product is the la roche posay cicaplast baume 5+. I use it as my evening moisturizer and it's improved my dry, sensitive skin tremendously. I've recently gotten into using Retinal and I've gotten next to no irritation because of using the cicaplast. it's also fantastic when you have a runny nose. I'd usually get a lot of irritation around my nose every time I got a cold but with the cicaplast, I don't even notice it. it's definitely a holy grail product for me. the other product that's really had an effect on my skin barrier is from la roche posay as well and it's their toleriane line cream cleanser. it takes some getting used to if you like foaming cleansers since it's a cream and it also takes about 1 week to 2 weeks for the effects to kick in, but between the cicaplast and this, my skin's never looked better.

I guess I've been watching your videos for a very long time because I do remember when you first tried out the Soon Jung 2X Barrier Repair Cream! In fact, I think when I first started watching your videos, you had recently started using the Hada Labo UV white gel, and I started using it and their cleansing oil based on your recommendation. It's not only a holy grail product for me--it might be the only product I always have on my table and in my travel bag. No matter what actives or prescriptions I have on my face, this is the one sunscreen that (1) always protects, even in full tropical sun, (2) never irritates, even around the eyes, (3) always soothing to wear, (4) never pills, and (5) never, ever has a white cast on my skin (nor a flashback!), and I'm a Fitzgerald IV/V. I've tried a LOT of sunscreens from around the world, but I have yet to find one that I like as much as the UV white gel.

Thank you Dr. Dray for all your videos, I have learned so much from you. For winter months I recently bought Zeroid cream, which is Korean brand and it is great for sensitive skin in cold weather. I also love Altruist SPF, which in summer is a bit heavy, but in winter it is great. But the Hada Labo SPF sounds really great too. Thank you for all your recommendation 🙂 and sending love from Europe.

I bought the altruist mineral sunscreen and found it to be too heavy. I put it aside for the winter and hopefully I will like it better then

I’ve really been enjoying the Pyunkang Yul Intensive Repair Balm. It’s quite rich but you can use a little at a time and it doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. I purchased the Beauty of Joseon Low Ph Cleansing Bar a while ago but I haven’t tried it yet.

Dr. Dray thanks for all you do! I tried out the peel from The Ordinary today - and followed it up with a super hydrating mask from Circadia ( get from my aesthetician) and my skin is glowing and juicy…only because I;ve been following you for a few years now - and do all I can to keep sunscreen covered and simple cleansing and moisturized each day…I love how you keep us up to date on brands..in case we want to play a bit with a few new products, especially as seasons change. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all you care about!!!

I have been using the Paula's Choice Calm products to deal with trentinoin irritation and general neck contact dermatitis. In the morning I use the calming toner and serums and then am able to use Vitamin C serum without any irritation. I have been sticking with the Elta MD mineral sunscreen as well. Before I got into this routine I felt constantly irritation. Also, I am able to tolerate a weekly aha bha exfoliation and bha lotion a few times a week without a problem. I have used the Pyunkang Yul ampoule but not sure it did much for me. I do like to use the toners for gentle exfoliation and brightening-Neogen has a good one but there are others. I have also tried the Riversol products and found them good when my skin feels sensitized but they are more expensive than the k-beauty options. They do work though.

Hi Dr. Dray. I've been using the Hada labo cleansing foam you've reviewed as part of my double cleanse. Looks like it's been reformulated. I was wondering if you've tried the latest version? Some of the reviews mentioned stinging/irritation.

My ride or die product is snail mucin cream from Cosrx, which I found through Dr. Dray. You can see the glowing, dewy skin effect the very next day. I recently ordered a House of Joseon retinal eye cream from Styelvana and am looking forward to trying it for my facial upper third instead of putting a regular facial retinol on that more delicate skin. I also enjoy one of the Pyunkang Yul moisturizers, though for me it is the Calming Balm, which I use as my upper third moisturizer because it's so light it doesn't clog my pores in that area that's prone to that. Actually in the summer it's my full face final moisturizer. It utterly removes the stickiness of the snail cream also, leaving a soft, moist finish to my face. Of course, my #1 beauty product is called a good night's sleep.
