I agree with you. I love Sonic as a game, but specially as a character. His attitude is fantasting, specially in Unleashed, Secret Rings and Black Knight. As you say, that is wat Sonic is ment to be. I hate what they have done with him, his personality has banished, specially when he starts talking. For example, the intro for Colors is really good, but the moment he open his mouth in game it breakes my heart... (And not to mention Boom Sonic...) I really, really hope that the next game will bring back Sonic, the real one. By the way, for my also Jasson Grifith is the best Sonic's voice actor.

Jason Griffith was Sonic's best VA, with Ryan Drummond being a close 2nd. Roger Craig Smith is easily the worst VA for Sonic. 2010 was when everything changed for the worst in the Sonic Series. The 2010s have been the worst decade of Sonic's career. It all started with FreeRiders, the crappy Xbox360Kinect Exclusive that prevented us from ever getting another Sonic Riders game. Then Sonic 4 happened, then Colors which pretty much solidified the crap Modern Era for Sonic. Lost Worlds & Boom make 06 not look that bad in comparison. Why the Modern Era that started in 2010 was so bad? The "Just Sonic" approach combined with RC Smith was disastrous, although that was made all the worse by the fact the 2 lead writers never should have been hired to begin with. Pontac & Graff came with the current Voicecast & knew absolutely nothing about the Sonic Series. The most they know about the series is from the 1993 Sonic Cartoons & they have been butchering the Sonic Series & flanderizing the characters throughout the entire decade. The last great story of the series was Black Knight released in 2009. I want the real Sonic back just as much as you do.

Great list, man! I usually always forget about Black Knight if it isn't music or cutscenes being talked about, since I've never played the game, but this definitely made me appreciate the opening cinematic more. Sonic's attitude was really on point, and it was kind of a shame Griffith was replaced just as he hit his prime (Unleashed, Black Knight.) And you already know how much I love Unleashed. Fantastic game with plenty of great story moments.

Ah, sonic unleashed... painfully underrated. I know indeed that it is no masterpiece, but it sure shouldn't be held next to a game like Secret Rings... ugh I hate that game. I gotta say that the most enjoyable story moment in a sonic game for me has to be Dark Gaia taking away sonic's werehog ability. We see sonic fall to the ground in complete exhaustion, and chip is begging for him to stand up. Then sonic simply utters the words "Chip... run, Chip..." before Chip decides to go colossal. I love that line because it shows sonic feeling... hopeless for the first time (in a decent way, unlike 06). Sonic has always been the "steriotypical bad ass wisecracking hero who never has a bad day" guy, and this cutscene showed us that he does feel helpless at times... he at times feels like there is nothing he can do to save the day, so he does the only thing a great hero would do... tells his friend to get out of harm's way. Sonic shows a multidimensional character here who is more scared than confident, and it made me care for the Jason Griffith Sonic much more than any other sonic.

And if you look closely on that scene, you'll actually notice that Sonic's ears are drooping while they're usually upright. Really shows how weak he's feeling in that moment

For me, the best scene will always be the moment with sonic and Chip at the bridge of adabat, where sonic offers to help his friend who is in trouble. It just shows Sonic as this kind hearted hero who you can trust. I just love it.

06 story was pretty awesome, and I really loved how Shadow's relantionships developed---his rivalry with Sonic becoming a small friendship and a deeper friendship with Rouge and Omega.

Y'know what? At first, I was thinking "S&BK?! WHAT?!" But then, after listening to what you had to say about the cutscene, I realized: Yeah, this really WAS the only time they nailed Sonic's character. Especially that one line you pointed out. Even though he has every right to be angry about suddenly being transported to this other world while he was (most likely) eating chili dogs on his couch and watching tv or somethi g (that's the way I like to imagine it, I guess it stems from Secret Rings), he's willing to drop everything (besides the chili dogs, of course) and help out this woman who's clearly in extreme danger. It really shows Sonic's selflessness, while still keeping that snarky, 90's attitude he's famous for.

Not surprised to see Black Knight at the top but the moment I thought it was going to be was Excalibur Sonic and the build up to it. The moment It Doesn't Matter starts up after taking the beating from Merlina was just amazing.

Wow, nice! I definitely wasn't expecting number 1, but it was a great choice to remind us of Sonic and the Black Knight. Honestly, it's one of my favorite spin-off games because of how well the story was written and the style of the animation. I might make a video in response to this, but maybe after my next countdown, which should be coming up in a month or two (yes, it's a Sonic countdown, lol). Now, as for countdown ideas, I personally think you should do your favorite Sonic Vocal Songs or your favorite Sonic bosses. I'm always up for those kinds of countdowns. My favourite cutscene in Sonic 06: Team Dark in Wave Ocean. Rouge saying she'll always be by Shadow's side was just beautiful. To think these two have gone from uneasy allies to best friends since their first meeting melts my heart.

I agree with your pick for Shadow, that's what I've always loved about him as a character, and related to him because of that. His attitude of not giving up on himself regardless if the world hates him, if he's an outcast. Team Dark was my favorite thing about Sonic 06 and how Shadow, Rouge and Omega really are his friends, that they care about Shadow. Well as much as a robot can care...

I know its been long, but I want to reply something. Mighty, Ray, and Heavy and Bomb needs to appear alongside Knuckles, Vector, Espio, and Charmy in a 3D-mystery game, in which there are crimes in the city or village where they live. They will have to investigate, and protect the Master Emerald since the criminals want to take it. They will find out that the criminals are not Eggman or Metal Sonic, but instead the Team Hooligan (Nack/Fang, Bean, and Bark). Sonic, Tails, and Amy should have some cameos in the game.

I REALLY like that Sonic Unleashed opening cutscene! But to be fair, Black Knight was also a game that shows Sonic's character (Along with Sonic Unleashed). Plus, I have to admit, putting SU opening cutscene at number 1 is pretty much unfair.

shadow the hedgehog and sonic 06 were my favourite games of the series! I actually like gameplay in both... mostly. Shadow the hedgehog was a bit hard to control. and that cutscene in 06 is my absolute favourite to watch! It came with my new ps3 and I was 9 at the time and I don't know why, but I just loved it straight from the get-go and remains as one my all time favourites! I do agree with you on fact that in 06 shadow was at his best! he had the dark, badass but yet, still very relatable vibe to him that he was meant to have. and whilst David humphry did make him seem quite relatable and 'human', I just don't feel like it's the voice of an emotionaly plagued, black anthropomorphic hedgehog. and griffith kind of did it with shadow the hedgehog, but he came across to helpless and gullible, which I get which was what Sega was going for and admire the atmosphere feel the game had. but in 06, yes! that is shadow! and look, it might be because 06 brings me back happy memories of first playing it when my life felt perfect, but I managed to have I good time with 06 so I'd like to know that if you can't, why? why wasn't it fun? I know about the glitches and the only real ones I got, idid on purpose and I love them! they really help! like at the end of dusty desert with silver(by clipping through the door with a crate). so tell me, what's actually bad about it?...

I haven't played ShTH, but otherwise I completely agree! the only two parts I didn't like about 06 were the SonicxElise "romance" and the End Of The World. End Of The World because it was simply too slow and absurdly difficult.

I'm three years late but I have to say, Sonic 06 didn't rewritten him into an agent, Shadow defeated his father and used his Chaos Control as Super Shadow to send the Black Comet into space so the Ark's weapon can destroy it, he says "To put the past behind me! Chaos Control!" before doing so and everyone including G.U.N. watched the fight and that's when they trust him again.

I completely agree with you in almost any way. There are no words to describe how thankful I am that there is a sonic fan such as yourself and to perfectly describe how great it is to be one. I personally agree with you about sonic and the black knight and unleashed. They are the best when it comes to story and one can say sonic and the black knight is very underrated. My favorite moment from that game would be the cutscenes you get before you face off against Merlina. The cutscene shows you sonics way of life and how he views himself as a hero. The line " it was never about chivalry for me. I just gotta do, what I gotta do. That's all!!", perfectly describes it and the way Jason griffith read the line made it even better. It goes to show that sonic isn't just an average video game character like the rest of them.

Super belated comment because I just started getting into Sonic lore, but I absolutely LOVE this list. I physically cheered at #s 4 (Shadow's excellent at accepting his hand and playing what he's dealt), 3 (can't get enough of the Sonic & Shadow dynamic), and yes, 1 - fully agree about Sonic's portrayal in Black Knight. Sonic is the perfect balance of noble and goofy there. I would love for his official characterization to return to this core. For now, seeing Black Knight lore land the #1 spot is a happy surprise! Thanks for this well-executed vid; now I can look up more cutscenes. :)

my favorite moments are always when sonic is a caring guy doing his best to cheer up someone whether they are someone he just met or an old friend It's always nice to see him give life advice or just say something ridiculous to make you feel better my favorite part of Sonic's character even as a kid this is his sweet caring gentle side most people think Sonic is just a silly show off e quick-witted guy but he has a very caring side to him he is soft and caring to others and it's always cute to see him take the time out of his day to help somebody feel better as a kid this side of them made me really wish Sonic could be my friend I wanted him to be my best friend because of this personality! Great list man! Personally, I have no idea where I'd rank my favorite moments. I know one thing, the overwhelming majority of them are in my five favorite Sonic games of all time, those being SA, SA2, Sonic '06,' Secret Rings, and Black Knight. The reason so many of my favorite moments are in my 5 favorite Sonic games is because story is a huge factor of why I like all 5 of those games. The other moments I like would probably include the Sonic Unleashed cutscene (before it turns werehog that is), the end scene of Shadow the Hedgehog where he saves the planet, and several scenes from Sonic CD, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

For me the story book series of the Sonic games have been my favorite portrayals of Sonic. I think he is at his best in those cause well Jason is voicing him. For me Jason is Sonic cause he plays everything for Sonic, his cockiness, his kindness, his silliness, and his coolness. Jason feels like Sonic's growing up voice actor and the story book series show this I think with how he should act in a game and not how he represented now. It's a reason I'm not a big fan of Roger cause he isn't all of Sonic like Jason or even Ryan was. I hope we can get a Sonic like the Jason Sonic again soon. I learned so much from Jason's Sonic.

I highly Agree in how well '06 handled Shadow but I gotta say, I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because of Shadow the Hedgehog (I know it's an unpopular opinion but I DO really like that game). that is the one game where he is looking for answers on who he is and what he should do with his life (and the conclusion to his "amnesia character arc that started on Sonic Heroes, then got furthered in Sonic Battle), and in the (True) end, he finds then answers he was looking for. That is why he won't fall for Mephiles's crap. He has been through that phase and overcame it. Deciding to live up to his promise to Maria and protect the world as a G.U.N. agent (maybe even keeping an eye on them to make sure something like the Raid on the ARK won't happen again).

Great list but have you ever seen the ending scene with Blaze the Cat and Silver the HedgeHog , its from sonic 06 ,Its my favorite scene even though its kind of sad XD

Unpopular opinion, but I actually really like Lost World's story. Or, the pacing at least. Near the end, the life is sucked out of Sonic's world, Tails is turned into a robot, and Eggman dies. It really does keep getting more & more epic.

Have you read the Archies comics of Sonic the Hedgehog? It goes into more of how kind Sonic is snd even has nice scenes of him playing with tails, his lil bro. Of course it doesn't really follow the games but the series and characters are great. SA2 will always be one of my favorite games, still play it on my xbox 360
