Question for Rummy and/or any of you out there: There was a fight, I believe on HBO, where Lampley screamed, "Is he Superman disguised as Clark Kent? Or is he Clark Kent disguised as Superman??" I remember in the lead up to a big fight, that clip was played over and over. I thought it was Lennox Lewis, and in my mind it was a fight in the UK, but I've never found it. And then, I think about how it was RJJ who was called Superman, and both he and Lennox were criticized for being too passive in many fights (Clark Kent) vs. smashing someone up fast and viscously (Superman), so maybe it was an RJJ fight and not Lennox. Does anyone know the answer? Thanks in advance for any replies!
@RummysCorner
@RummysCorner 5 ай бұрын
I do not know the answer, but before I had even finished reading what you wrote Roy jumped to mind. So I think there is a good chance you are correct, and that Roy is a strong possibility. I confess, I don't recall that snippet from Lampley.

@@RummysCorner Thanks for the reply! It might've been Merchant, actually. I realized that after I typed it. I started watching Roy's fights on YT for an hour and couldn't find it before I realized I needed to get back to work. LOL. One day I will find it!

Lucian Bute ending higher on the final list above Ward and Froch just shows how pointless these lists are, other than that good work Rummy. Also picking decades makes it a limited system (as you already know) look at Holmes and Tyson on the heavyweight list, they split decades.

It was interesting that Froch wasn't around for longer, felt like he was! Maybe because he had a decent amateur career and then when he did fight pro, he only wanted the best opponents. And apart from Ward, felt that he could beat them...

No place for Steve Collins in the 90s list. He beat both the 3rd and 4th ranked on this list. Not once but twice. He retired as an injured undefeated champion and always took on the hard fights. Very surprising omission.

Bullshit, Jones could be backed up with a jab Calzaghe would have handled Griffin and McCallum far better than Jones did and Roy may have had to come out like he did in the second Griffin fight to stand a chance against Joe who may have been the better boxer, Jones had more power but was far too nervous and flinchy usually, Joe would have given him hell.

Russell Scott he makes that pretty clear in each of these videos. It's based solely on ring magazine rankings and one's longevity in a particular weight class so naturally multiweight guys like Jones, Pacquiao, Mayweather, etc.. are probably not gonna be ranked as high as they would be if say he did one of these for a pfp list. Floyd for example I'm assuming will only be ranked high at 130 and 147. He didn't spend enough time at 135, 140, and 154 to be ranked high on a list like this.

Calzaghe will go down as one of most overrated fighters next to Marciano in the history of boxing Becuz he didn’t fight or beat nobody in their prime. Calzaghe had a pathetic career riddled with avoiding, ducking n backing out of fights against the top 168lb in the division. Ottke literally had a title at 168lb the entire time Calzaghe had his titles smh. Dude career doesn’t hold a candlestick to Ward, Eubanks Sr and Froch.
