Why bother? Not like other cars have holes for the horn. It just creates more drag. Edit: there are regulations on how loud the horn should be. Kinda dumb you need a hole though, unlike most manufacturers.

These Honda Civic Si’s and Hyundai Veloster Turbo/Elantra Sport are the two best value sporty everyday cars on the market rn that will run forever. As a hatchback user that values real cargo space, the Veloster Turbo would probably be the choice, but as you said, the Honda Civic Si outmatches the Veloster slightly in just almost every aspect. And I do think the Si’s manual shifter is better than Veloster’s, reverse gear should always be away from the driver. Everybody sings the Subaru WRX swan song until their headgaskets blow and they have to fill up for gas. Everybody sings for the Corolla Hatchback and Mazda3 until it takes them ten agonizing seconds just to reach 60 mph and they get out-maneuvered while merging in traffic by a V6 minivan. Say what you want about the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 being the best affordable lightweight sports coupe, but like the Mazda miata you just can’t have any friends or family members without leaving them in a parking lot

Tom, what you don't like about the Si shifter could be the rubber bushings in the shifter base and shift linkage ends. When you replace those with with solid bushings you get a much more direct feel. Feels like it goes into gear a lot more positively. Great videos you guys, keep up the great work repping Ontario!

I purchased the Si sedan a month ago as my daily. The Hondata flash makes a world of difference in waking up the engine. It’s how it should have come from the factory now. But I think it’s a great all around car that can’t be beat for the money.

@andrewbond7949
@andrewbond7949 5 жыл бұрын
SavagexRaccoon It still has rev hang after the base tune was installed. I’ve gotten used to it and for daily driving it doesn’t bother me much. What bothered me much more was the engine running out of steam after 5k. But the tune is so good that it makes the stock setting feel very underpowered in comparison.I’ve modified and tracked Honda’s for 25 years and these new turbo engines are nice for the street but lack the sharpness and excitement of the old NA engines for track work and fun runs. My sons Type R is a lot of fun but it needs a loud mode from the factory. Another must have for the Si is the gas pedal relocate kit from Acuity which makes heel toe a breeze. But I do enjoy the Si as a daily and have zero regrets buying it. In my opinion it’s a no brainer for the price.

Ya, for the same reason iPhones have higher resale value then androids, cause people think the Honda is better, simply for the fact it's a Honda. Hyundai has waaaaayyyy more reliable cars then honda, just like there are a thousand phones better then the iPhone, but people are stupid, so they will pay more for less

Never driven the Hyundai, but have driven my buddy’s 2018 si coupe. I think that si is seriously under rated, car is awesome! (I drive a fiesta st). With that being said, I am personally more interested in the Hyundai. I like seeing the brand become a serious contender. If I could help it at all though I’d pay the extra fee grand for the N.

I really agree about the lack of aural drama in the newer Si! I got an 8th gen last month mostly because of the aural drama and edginess associated with an 8k+ redline. It was also way cheaper and the depreciation will be a lot lower as its old anyway.

The civic although it was just as quick it didnt feel as comfortable to push to the red line. The veloster seemed to do it way smoother (with the 7 speed dual clutch auto) and the interior was much nicer in the veloster. Both were very fun little cars but personally i much preferred the veloster. (The $1500 i saved by buying the veloster are just a small bonus)

This is to James and Thomas. Great videos! I have commented on a few previous comments below but wanted to post for you guys. James, a throttle house review of the 2018 Civic SI HFP was sent in a Honda email regarding the HFP release. I had been sceptical of the newer 1.5 turbo as I was driving the 2015 Civic si at the time. After watching your review in Honda’s email on the Friday night, I was at the dealership the next morning signing for my 2018 SI HFP. I am no longer sceptical of the 1.5. I wouldn’t go back to the 2.4 Na if left stock, and the front end with the lsd and HFP suspension is so much better than the front end on the last gen. Thanks for the great videos and for changing my mind on the new si.

Have a Civic Si. I am relatively old for the target market but have to drive a lot and don't have the ability to have an electric car. The Civic Si makes me money on mileage and is a blast to drive in the city traffic. Very excited to go out in the country with it next week and drive the Coronado Trail. I don't care about big engine noise and such, in fact would rather it be less than more because I drive a lot. I could have a more expensive car, but the Civic goes all in on conveniences in its design giving more than cars 30% more expensive. I did a lot of research before buying and am in love this car.

The Veloster looks so good now. Just looks like a quality hot hatch from Japan should. But now i think the Koreans might be making better looking, bolder cars. I think it looks fast in an understated way and has an agressive stance to it. The Honda just looks like a Honda with a plastic spoiler on it to signify that its a "sports car".

In the US, you can find the Veloster Turbo Ultimate Manual for the same MSRP of the Si. The Si in the US is not optioned as well as Canada, no Nav or LEDs so the Veloster is much better equipped. Not to mention the Si Sedan is just hideous from the rear with the tacked on oversized fake plastic vents. The Si sounds like a lawn mower or something whereas the Veloster sounds much better even though it is "enhanced" I still prefer that.

Choosing between these two would be tough for me. I owned an ‘05 Si (the 2-door hatchback generation) and loved it. I could easily see myself in another Si. Not crazy about the idea of a 1.5 liter turbo though. Would rather have a 2.0 liter NA. Also, I really like hatchbacks, and I’ve liked the Veloster’s design since its debut. In the end, I’d probably go with the Si, mostly because we had mostly good experiences with the 5 Hondas and 1 Acura we’ve owned.

I've been in the market for a 2018 Honda Civic si and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner's manual states that the car should receive premium, but can it take regular? Furthermore, I think the car has a knock sensor that changes the ignition timing caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine.

One is a hatch back, one is s coupe. Get it straight. Just ask yourself, when someone says "blow the hatch!" and you climb out the trunk from sitting in the back seat... then, it's a hatch. If you open the trunk, and the back glass stays fixed, it's not a hatch. Number of doors have nothing to do with being or not being a hatch, that's nonsense. One is hot hatch, one is a hot coupe... if hot coupe exists... I'll take a hatch over a coupe any day.

Love your videos. I am the owner of a 2019 Veloster Turbo (same trim as the one you're testing here, but in chalk white with the black roof) and absolutely love the car. However, I can attest to both of the complaints you mention in this video as not being one-offs by any means. The creaking noise from the sunroof area you mention I had as well, but narrowed it down to being the passenger grab handle. I spoke with the dealer and the technician mentioned that they used to have a gasket-type material that sat between the handle mounts and the body, but that it's not there on this generation (he'd had other complaints of this type of noise). They simply added some gasket-type foam material in between (you cannot see it - it's up above the headliner) and now that creak is gone. Regarding the seat height adjustment moving: there is a post on the veloster.org forums on this very problem. It does not plague all owners, and the degree of the issue varies, but I have found it as well. For me, the movement is quite small: I'm 6'1" and drive with the seat in its lowest position, and after some time (not every time I get in and out, but certainly every day or so) I can push the handle down about one full cycle, meaning the seat crept up that much. Others claim it's much more severe and the seat has gone up several cm in height after they get out and return. I suspect the retention system is being partially disengaged by the driver's weight and when you get out it is released and the seat moves up to the next "stage" of movement (or possible more) before locking again. Hopefully Hyundai responds with some kind of adjustment or fix to the mechanism to prevent this in the future. My only other complaint is with the lack of storage cubbies around the car. There are no pockets on the front seat backs, no molded pockets in the hatch area, not even a couple of grocery bag hooks, so everything in the hatch just kind of sits there. I mounted the cargo net off of the 1st generation Veloster and it worked to provide a little space, but I would have appreciated a little more design work in that area. Since the car comes with a temporary spare, there's not even any storage under the hatch floor to put a little toolkit or towels or rags, etc. The final issue I find is, since I'm taller and have the seat quite far back, I have to remove the rear seat headrests if I want to be able to fold them down. This is probably typical of a shorter wheelbase hatchback design, but the low roofline also means you can't take those headrests off with the seats in the upright position (say, from the hatch opening itself) so you have to start folding them down, then pull the headrests out, then allow the seat to lay flat. Thank goodness for that third door as this would be a huge pain in the butt to do otherwise
@lysanderzepeda
@lysanderzepeda 3 жыл бұрын
The velosters booty is wide and low so the seats and trunk are surprisingly wide and deep. The engine bay is small so there’s a lot of leg room in the front. Moving the seats forward a bit for a second passenger or third passenger (though preferably 2 max due to driver seating position. I’m 5’6” and a smaller person would be cramped sitting behind me.) I work in construction in LA. My trunk is loaded with 3 bags of tools and then some and i have some room to spare back there. The car doesn’t feel weighed down driving it though my tools aren’t that heavy. I absolutely adore it and have plans to keep it for future track days and modifications
