I met a Karen in the wild while working in a Interstate Rest Area. I heard shouting coming from the men's restroom. A blonde Karen was screaming at a trucker, in the men's restroom who was holding a tube of toothpaste in one hand and a toothbrush in the other. She kept screaming at him that he was in the wrong restroom and he needed to leave. I had told her three times that SHE was in the wrong restroom and pointed to the three foot long sign with huge black letters saying MEN. She came out of the restroom to see what I was pointing at, turned very pale and scuttled across the lobby to go to the WOMEN's restroom. All the poor guy wanted was to brush his teeth.

I had a security guard ask me for my ID in my office parking garage. He was someone I’d never seen before. I was getting my court bag out of the trunk and it was apparently suspicious enough to warrant an ID check. Mind you I’d watched several other people come and go from car to building and vice versa since I’d pulled into the garage and no one stopped them. I politely asked why he needed to see my ID and he refused to give a reason. I declined to present him with ID. He said he’d have to call police and have me removed from the property for trespassing. I said please call. When the officers arrived I could see one already shaking his head as he walked toward me. He came to me directly, apologized profusely and promised he would handle the situation with the guard. I grabbed my bag and as I walked inside I heard the officer asking the guard why he didn’t recognize the senior judge. The answer is he couldn’t see anything past the color of my skin.

My mom was a Karen Avenger the first time we encountered a Karen. We went to the ice cream parlor and the woman in front of us at the queue started SHRIEKING and demanding a promotion that didn't exist (she misinterpreted a sign at the cash register), and when the cashier stood her ground, she started berating her, calling her a moron, threatening to have her fired, demanding the ice cream for free, all the greatest hits. The my mom stepped in and dressed her down like a child (mom's a school teacher), told her to stop mistreating people, explained the promotion didn't exists and reassured the cashier that she could speak on her behalf to the manager and corroborate she had done nothing wrong. That seemed to stop her in her tracks, Karen paid and her mini Karen of a daughter started throwing me mean glances (she must have been around 12 or 13, I was 9 or 10). We get our ice cream and for to our car, and see the Karens in through the window throwing dirty looks at her, she AGAIN turned around and told this woman she should be embarrassed. I was quite worked up but my mom explained that mistreatment is never acceptable, and that a working person is in a position of vulnerability, and that it's our duty to uphold decency and fairness. Total superhero moment. She's done it again multiple times since, all five feet and glasses, and she gives that *look* that stops people before they begin.

The store I worked at had a significant number of elderly shoppers, so it was especially important to do what we could to keep them safe.

The next guy pulls up and I hand him the coffee and say "the lady in front of you paid for your order :)". He takes the coffee and screams in our faces "I WOULDN'T HAVE TO COME BACK IF YOU'D JUST MAKE IT RIGHT THE FIRST FUCKING TIME" and he picks up his old coffee and yeets it at the wall right beside the window and speeds off so fast. I didn't even have time to process wtf just happened. Thankfully none of it got on me or my coworker. Several customers saw what happened and were so concerned for us and asked us if we were okay. Then someone posted about it in one of our city's facebook groups and so many people called our store to ask if we were alright. Tbh the amount of people who cared totally made up for the incident.

I met my first Karen at a kid shoe store a few months ago. I went in with hubby and son and we saw this couple with their son trying like 10 different pairs of shoes. Really, there were all over the place. We decided to wait while we browsed and gave the only employee there some time, because the Karen kept asking for more shoes. After like 10 minutes, we start to hear the same woman yelling at the employee to 'Learn to check on her body language because that's really rude' We all had ??? faces. What does body language have anything to do with it? She kept on yelling and screaming about the employee being disrespectful and how her 'body language' really make her want to not buy a thing. What triggered this episode? They told the sales lady they wanted a pair of shoes. She went on to ask 'Are you taking only this pair or should I get another one?' In a very polite voice, I heard her. Karen thought this meant the sales lady 'attacking' her for choosing only one pair after asking for 10 or more; when actually, the girl just wanted to be helpful. In the end, the Karen left all high and mighty and left the poor girl almost in tears. Hubby and I (We kinda knew her because we bought there frequently) went to console her and asked her to take her time. I just don't get people like that...

On our way out, after finally being to order our stuff, I asked the main Karen, hey did my attitude offended you? Back in 2020, I was working at a Chevron. I live in Oregon, and Oregon's one of the few states where you're not allowed to pump your own gas. They have workers who do that and I was one of them. One day, this car with a California license plate came to one of the pumps and three people were in the car, a couple and their kid. The woman came out of the car and was weirded out to see me standing there. I kept trying to explain to her the rules and all that, but she kept demanding that I stay back and kept insisting she pumped it herself. At one point, I took one step towards her and she started backing away from me like I was a serial killer. As a gas attendant, I had the right to refuse service, so eventually, I just went inside and told my boss what the problem was. My boss comes out with no mask (because you only had to wear them indoors in Oregon), and before she can say anything, the lady starts demanding that my boss wears a mask, which my boss didn't comply to and warns to call the Sheriff if they don't leave, and so she takes her kid around the corner of the building and is gone for some time. Meanwhile, the lady's bf/husband, who's a Black person, is just trying to tell me that he's confused about what's going on and that they're from California and things are different there. By this point, the lady comes back with her kid and starts filming my boss, and in a terrified voice, says "This woman refuses to wear a mask! She just threatened me! She just threatened an African American man!" My boss, confused AF, is like, "I threatened you?!?!" and the lady says "Yeah, you threatened to call the Sheriff!" After she said that, I told her that that was not a threat, but a warning, and she told me to STFU. After that, they drove off and I never saw them again

I used to be a cashier at a grocery store near my house (I work down in the kitchen now) but within my first week of working there (about my second shift) I had this customer ask about some flowers outside the store. I didn’t know what the prices were so I said that I could go check since my cash was right next to the door but the customer got pissed and began berating me saying that I should know the prices since I worked at the store, and while I was trying to explain that it would only take a few seconds to run outside thankfully one of the other cashiers told them that it was only my first week so they shouldn’t be so hard on me. One other example was when I had a customer ask me if we had a specific item on sale but it had turned out that we had it on sale the week before since our flyers change every week, so I just apologized and said that it was on sale last week. After that they just told me “Oh, but this store has so why don’t you?” I again told them there was nothing I could do and they just said that they would “take their business elsewhere”. I had the unfortunate experience of coming across the same Karen around where I used to live multiple times. Fortunately, I never had to deal with this Karen myself, but I ended up bearing witness to her being an @$$hat multiple times. As for what eventually happened, I must admit that a part of me wishes that it was by me, but considering what happened, it was a good thing that it was not by me. This is quite the phenomenal story, so I cannot blame anyone who takes this with quite a bit of salt - I certainly would, had I not borne witness to it. It all happened too quickly for any video to be made, so I am sorry for that, but then again, how many sites other than something entirely personal would allow such video on? Anyway, the story: This happened during a rare instance of me making a late-night run to Walmart (around midnight or so), and I had exited the store and was walking across the parking lot, as my car was parked a bit away from the storefront. This confrontation occurred a lane over from where I was parked, so I was fairly clear of it...but what I saw happening held me in place. This Karen looked like she was trying to assault this woman - at least that was how it looked from my perspective. Now, I knew about this Karen (barely, but still), and I had no idea who this other woman was. Still, I felt the need to act, and I took a step towards intervening, but then I saw what this other woman did to this Karen in response to her action, and it...was...PRICELESS! This other woman suddenly swung her purse around the Karen's head. She did not strike the Karen with her purse, but instead, using its weight, she wrapped it around the back of the Karen's neck and used the momentum to pull the Karen towards her...specifically into the woman's flying elbow strike. It looked just like one of the elbow strikes I had learned from my vovinam (Vietnamese martial art) class, though martial arts that use elbow strikes tend to use very similar, if not identical, ones. That said, I knew I never saw this woman in the vovinam class or in any of the other martial arts classes I was in at the time (karate and judo), so there was no way I could have expected her to do what she did, but...let's just say that she looked like a centerfold model to me in that moment. The loud crack of the woman's elbow impacting the Karen's nose and undoubtedly breaking said nose echoed across that Walmart parking lot...and it was, to put it very mildly, absolutely glorious. That Karen almost instantly dropped like a sack of bricks and did not move - she was still breathing, but she was out. From the initial act I saw to the Karen dropping, it all occurred over the span of roughly two seconds. It was quite the shock, and it had me frozen in place, albeit only momentarily as my mind processed what just happened. Once it had finished, I felt possessed to do what I did: I approached the woman and asked her if she was currently single. She was collected enough to ask me why, and I said that after seeing what she just did, I must put a ring on her because I can trust her to keep my @$$ in line. She stared at me in confusion for a moment before she burst into laughter. Once she calmed back down, we went our separate ways, leaving that Karen laying on the pavement as we each drove away through different exits. No, we did not hook up after that. It was the only time we saw each other - plus, she was already married, so it was kind of a bummer for me. Sure, a part of me wishes I got to know her, but at least I never saw or heard of that Karen ever again. I highly doubt that Karen suffered anything permanent and...shall we say, decisive, but the end result was all the same.

I actually met my first pair of Karens while working as a cashier in a groceries store. They were saying the usual "you should show us more respect" and "you'd be fired" kind of bs. Well, since I had a LOT of experience watching Karen videos, I went "OK" at their every sentence I repeated the same word. In the end they wanted to talk to the manager, since me not reacting to their threats was obviously not enough. Well, sucks to be them, since our store is small and barely has enough staff, even if they somehow got corporate to tell my manager to fire me, they'd be left with only 2 cashiers. And that means that when one had a break day, the shop would have been left with only 1 person on the register for the whole day, which is a big No-No where I am from. A person is required by law to have at least 1 break day every week and you can't be forced to work double shift.

My daughter worked at grocery too. She got a few Karens and when they get mouthy, she point to the security cameras. Her store actually kept a book with photos of people who were trespassed or forbidden to enter their store for a period of time.

For the people saying “just ignore them” thank God for self phone cameras if you’re Black you have random white strangers approaching you, questioning you, then threatening to call the police on you for just existing. If you’d been dealing with that for no reason since you were a kid you’d video them and put them in blast too. These Karen videos make some people afraid to do it now which is nice.

It's like that for us First Nations/Indigenous people up here in Canada. All we have to do is breathe and some freaking KAREN will scream "They're hurting me!". It's insane.

@@VJAllison1974 Karen’s bother Indigenous people in the US too. There was a viral video of a Karen who rudely cut in front of a girl at a gas station telling her “go back to your country” the girl was NATIVE AMERIICAN.

Really in #9 i saw a bunch of shoppers record a maskless white woman who was minding her own business but apparently she's the karen?

@@HeatForce it doesn’t sound like you know what a Karen means because if she was minding her own business she’s definitely not a Karen.

Yes, one of my old neighbors in Hawaii that I used to be friends with was such a Karen. I didn't even realize she was a Karen for the longest until she turned on my husband and I and tried throwing us under the bus at an HOA meeting. It was on a topic that to our faces she said she agreed with us on, but in the meeting said she didn't and then proceeded to try to argue with us. She would actually take walks every day around the complexes to take pics of peoples yards to report violations to the HOA. For the longest time no one knew who was reporting all these little meaningless things to the HOA, but when she asked me to go for a walk one day I was like, "omg she's the one who's doing it." and she even told me,"I'll have to send those pics to the board later. " she was a bored 50-something housewife with nothing to do, so she became a Karen.

It seems like every community has these type of people white women...but sometimes white men!

@Kim Kemp my "Karen" actually wasn't a white woman. She was hispanic. I really don't feel like it's one particular type of background/ethnicity of a person who acts or can act this way. I've seen "Karens" of many different backgrounds. I'm from Houston and live in the outskirts of the city now, we have a huge melting pot of people. Everyone is from all over, so there is a very large range of people that are "Karens." Hawaii was very similar, a melting pit of people, so you saw people acting that way from very different backgrounds and ethnicities
@kimkemp3876 Жыл бұрын
@Khous4790 The term "Karen" was originally applied to a particular kind of white woman. However any adult person knows there are annoying people of any ethnicity. DUH
@Khous-yg1ur Жыл бұрын
@Kim Kemp yes, and I'm just making sure there's no confusion of who a Karen is/can be. Anyone can be a Karen. It all originated from Kate Goslin from Kate+8, etc. But yes, today I feel we are way past presuming that every Karen is a Caucasian female.

I've decided I'm going to tell the tale of my witnessing of a Karen. So my mom and I were in the drive-thru at KFC. All of a sudden, an older lady pulls in, opens her car door, gets out, slams it shut and stomps over to the drive-thru speaker. She proceeded to shout into the speaker, while people were in line, about how she only got one bucket of chicken when she was supposed to get two. They had her go to the front door area and talk to the worker. He had a bucket ready in a bag for her and she was shouting about how her family was in town and she needed the food NOW. It was pretty funny, actually..
