@sallywingles90575 жыл бұрын
@@Moregems Yes, I believe it is the same thing, but this particular named stone is for specimens native to one area. It has been a while, but I learned of this stone while watching a TV program. The show followed a Brazillian Gem Hunter (Tony Diniz) and others on a show called "Game of Stones" (Discovery Channel). The episode was called Turkish Roulette and they were looking for a specific stone that has/had a value close to a million dollars (if I remember correctly the stone was around 120 carats) and it was called Turkizite -- which I've read is Turkish Diaspore, which is only found in Anatolia, Turkey.

Steve, I have a nice 43ct hot pink rubilite tourmaline from the Stewart mine in California, what cut design in your opinion best suits this stone? I was looking to have it made into a ring setting.
@Moregems8 жыл бұрын
Lots to consider. Most tourmalines have directional color and you have to cut to the best color. Inclusions and yield are the next considerations. Without having it in my hands its difficult to recommend a cut. I typically cut out the bad and unusable portions and then determine the cut.

So many Gems, so little time!! To think I knew about gemstones is an understatement! I know very little. Gems are the mystery and true gift to all of us No Gem is owned by anyone, just borrowed briefly until the eye of the beholder close for the last time. Passed along down the line. Just to know that in the heart of every good soul is a gem that shines forever brightly with the colors of heaven in its gaze. Never to fade away.

Arusha color changing garnet is beautiful, the light changes everything about the stone. It is blue and found in Tanzania on the Arusha river. Zircons are the oldest gemstone in the world at over 4.4 billion years old, it out dates the diamond. Pakistani peridot's color is such a rich greenish blue, nothing compares to it. I love apatite. Neon blue is probably my favorite color of apatite, although I also have clear. Black opals are beautiful too. I do have a black Ethiopian opal that gives you every color of the rainbow. It is radiant. Tsavorite garnet is a vivid grass green garnet. Campbell Bridges who discovered it was killed because he found it. He was able to track it into the Kenyan National Forest and the Kenyan government controls it. Most people don't realize the colors that garnets come in. Purple, blue, red, green, yellow, mint green and an ultraviolet mint green. They are all amazing. I personally have 3 favorites. Imperial topaz, which is from Brazil. A billionaire American purchased the only mine and had a lake made of it. I am glad I got mine before that. Sphalerite from Spain is like looking at the burning embers of a fire. Golds, reds, oranges and greens, every shade you could imagine. Turkish diaspore would be my 3rd favorite. It is a one place gemstone, only found in the Anatolia Mountains in Turkey. It is naturally color shifting or changing. It goes from a greenish yellow in sunlight to a yellowish in incandescent light to a champagne raspberry in candlelight. It is mesmerizing.

I have a 11.8 carat peridot from Pakistan and the color is simply stunning! The piece I have is not eye clean, but the color is so Beautiful, a rich green, not too yellowy green. Ethiopian opals are beautiful too. And they are quite affordable! I have one I plan to set on a hatpin.

Sphalerites, anyone? It's R.I. 2.3+ and doesn't double refract. But it's 3x dispersion of diamond and many specimens seem rather opaque... Still friggin good for the price tho

Sphalerite is amazing although 6 way perfect cleavage and low hardness limits it use in jewelry to pendants and then is a challenge to the setter.

Out of this list I am lucky to have the following: Garnet (Grossular var. Tsavorite) - absolutely stunning vibrancy of green. In sunlight it rivals my emeralds. Garnet (Almandine/Pyrope var. Rhodolite) - very nice raspberry garnet Opal (var. Fire - Ethiopian) - Beautiful colour play with a orange fiery glow Opal (var. Black - Ethiopian) - Stunning colour play contrasted with the black Quartz (var. Rose de France) aka Pink Amethyst as a raw druzy. Forsterite (var. Peridot) - Nothing truly compares to this lime green gem I've also made my own red spinel, but not gem quality.

I have never heard of alexandrite-like garnet. Wow!! That color change was amazing! But I have to agree with this list here. I love the zircon and spinels. I guess, from a selfish and personal perspective, I am glad that they're not way over the top expensive. They really do have some beautiful grapefruit like colors. And the ethiopian opal seems to be pretty popular these days. Not super expensive (which is probably why it's popular).
@Moregems7 жыл бұрын
The color change garnets are sweet! They are very popular with our customers (when we can find them). It's difficult to find top color and color change. We usually only get a few each year. When we get them, they typically sell very quickly! Ethiopian opal is one of our favorites! As a relatively new ( and very productive)source of opal, it currently has a great price and you can get an amazing gem in a large size for a very reasonable price, compared to other sources. We have a website dedicated to our opal selection, and you can see it here if you are interested: www.OpalLust.com -- Steve Moriarty personally selected each piece of rough, then we precision cut it in-house giving them a very fine polish.
