Interesting idea. While I totally agree with you that these things are better done by gut than by mathematical formula, I couldn't resist applying a mathematical formula, anyway. This is a simple addition of all of the winning margins of victory, with extra-inning games counting as zero. By that formula, here's how all of the seven game World Series ranked. 1924 Senators-Giants 10 1972 Athletics-Reds 13 1973 Athletics-Mets 13 1975 Reds-Red Sox 13 1991 Twins-Braves 14 2017 Astros-Dodgers 14 1912 Red Sox-Giants 15 1925 Pirates-Senators 15 1952 Yankees-Dodgers 15 1947 Yankees-Dodgers 17 1962 Yankees-Giants 17 1940 Reds-Tigers 18 1964 Cardinals-Yankees 18 1955 Dodgers-Yankees 19 1957 Braves-Yankees 20 1971 Pirates-Orioles 20 2011 Cardinals-Rangers 21 1979 Pirates-Orioles 22 1986 Mets-Red Sox 22 1997 Marlins-Indians 22 1946 Cardinals-Tigers 23 2016 Cubs-Indians 23 1926 Cardinals-Yankees 24 1931 Cardinals-Athletics 25 1956 Yankees-Dodgers 25 2002 Angels-Giants25 1958 Yankees-Braves 26 1967 Cardinals-Red Sox 26 2001 Diamondbacks-Yankees 27 1909 Pirates-Tigers 28 1934 Cardinals-Tigers 28 1945 Tigers-Cubs 28 1985 Royals-Cardinals 29 1987 Twins-Cardinals 30 1965 Dodgers-Twins 32 1982 Cardinals-Brewers 34 2014 Giants-Royals 35 2019 Nationals-Astros 35 1968 Tigers-Cardinals 41 1960 Pirates-Yankees 42 The fact that 1960 ranked dead last is at once not surprising and demonstrative of the problems of doing this by formula. The biggest surprise is the 1970s A's dynasty has two of the top three, and, yet, while people talk about the fact that the A's won three in a row, little mention is given to the quality of the Series themselves. 1972 in particular was one for the ages, six of the seven games were decided by one run, and the opponent was a Big Red Machine team with a lot of star power. Unfortunately, it didn't have the memorable moment at the end to punctuate it.

This is the kind of path I was initially looking at, but after just a few minutes I stepped back and just had that gut feeling that it was all wrong. Some of the best World Series, 1960 for example, had some complete blowouts but that just doesn't tell the full story either. 1972 and 1973 on the other hand were incredibly close in terms of run differential...but at the same time when I was reading through them they just didn't seem to have the memorable moments or drama that a really great series has. I guess my gut just prefers a couple highly dramatic back-and-forth games, especially if Game 7, even if there some blowouts mixed in.

Absolutely, what an amazing finish! This video might become obsolete if this series keeps going like this!

My favorite series was 2001 Diamondbacks over Yankees in seven. My second favorite was in 2011 when the Cardinals beat the Rangers in seven.

Home team wins shouldn't be a criteria imo like sure it ads to the visual but really should not discount an otherwise great series

That's a good point, which is why it's down further on my list. Kind of a tie breaker between two good series. Like even last night for example, having the Dodgers win in New York is great for them, but really muted the celebration and experience in a lot of ways
