I’ve been to one of Austin’s moonlight towers while it was on, it was one of the best examples of the inverse square law I’ve ever seen, the ground was lit about as well as if I had used my phone’s flashlight, but the actual lights were so bright it was like staring into the sun
@spugintrntl Жыл бұрын
I had a brainstorm about the inverse square law a while ago... I do a lot of maintenance work in warehouses, and I noticed that no matter how bright the lights are inside I always need a penlight to see what I'm doing inside the machines I'm working on because of how high the ceiling is. I also noticed that this is never a problem when I'm working on the same machines outside on a sunny day even though the sun is so incredibly far away and the same law applies. It just dawned on me (no pun intended) how insanely massive the sun is and I was paralyzed with awe for a good few minutes.

@@spugintrntlfun fact, you just described exactly how and why we can always “just tell” when hollywoo is filming in real or fake sunlight. Sunlight is mathematically near parallel for us on earth and acts very differently than artificial light. Sunlight doesn’t change the scale of shadows, which is something most people never notice but you “feel” it when you see fake sunlight. Try it yourself, go outside and hold out your hand and look at the shadow and slowly move your hand to the ground and it should be the same size, just a bit sharper… do it again indoors or with a lamp and your shadow will grow and shrink. It’s a cool effect most people never even notice. It’s why that cool effect happens in certain places where nothing has a shadow. Because your shadow points perfectly down and is the exact same size as you are so it appears as though you don’t have one, pretty trippy!

The revolver mousetrap wasn't actually meant to trap mice. It was meant to be a booby trap but was illegal to patent lethal booby traps, so they found a loophole and patented it as a mouse trap. Much like it's illegal to sell untested synthetic amphetamines but it is legal to sell them as "bath salts".
@ghplayer92285 жыл бұрын
"Legal"
@Fsilone5 жыл бұрын
The drug known as bath salts is illegal any which way. Actual bath salts like epsom salt aren't the same thing.
@bryntendo5 жыл бұрын
... 'Bath salts' isn't a street name for a particular drug, like 'dope' or 'molly', it's just a term that references a fairly wide range of synthetic research chemicals with a similar mechanism of action, in order to communicate what they are and legally sell them while creating a market. There are tonnes of online research chem developers and vendors, the drugs usually exist in a kind of legal grey area where they're not illegal yet but not caught under any existing legislation explicitly banning them, but they can't be sold as 'psychoactive drug', that comes under FDA control and they wouldn't be able to sell. So they label it as something that isn't controlled and say it's 'not for human consumption' to get around that. Vendors also call certain groups of compounds things like 'plant food' or 'pet shampoo' or 'incense' etc. Usually law enforcement get wind of the specific drugs fairly quickly and move to ban them as soon as they're aware of them, which just means there's an arms race between LE and developers as they make new compounds that aren't technically illegal yet to replace the now-banned ones. So the specific drug that was initially referred to as 'bath salts' was probably many many different drugs, most of which would be banned now and replaced with new ones also sold, euphemistically, as 'vath salts'. Like, how do you not know that man lol
@Fsilone5 жыл бұрын
Where does one buy these legal bath salts, then? What brand, in what store?
@bryntendo5 жыл бұрын
Fsilone There are hundreds of 'brands'. Online vendors, from Silk Road type deepweb sites, usually a random RC vendor you find online by googling 'legal highs' 'buy legal highs [your country]' etc, or through word of mouth from users on sites like bluelight and drugsforums etc, sometimes even on ebay and stuff depending what you're looking for and what it's current legal status is. These are _drugs__ dude they don't have trademarked brand names and licensed dispensaries, the point is to avoid the laws and regulations in place, obviously there's not going to be like an 'official bath salts store, which wouldn't make sense anyway because as already established, 'bath salts' is a euphemism to get past the need for FDA approval and doesn't refer to any one specific drug and especially not a specific vendor

The Krummlauf actually saw use in early StuG tanks which didn’t have any hull-mounted machine guns. The bent barrel allowed for a greater arc of fire when sticking the gun out a gun port, and the shattered bullets were still deadly enough to kill infantry at close range. It was even slightly advantageous since the shooter didn’t have to aim through the tight gun port, they could just spray away.

4:40 This caused no property damage, as it fired a blank round. The pressure from the blank was enough to kill a mouse or rat up close, and you were alerted by the bang to reload it. The blank wouldn't kill a human or damage the floor though, so it wasn't all that dangerous.
