The hack a player rule is a legit strategy, if you are paying someone millions of dollars and they cant hit free throws then maybe the player isnt worth the price tag. Why should the other team play to your strengths?

Or if you're not going to do rick Barry style at least find a way to miss the shot to the point that the ball comes back to you

KE TV some players, and this may sound weird, would rather not shoot well from the line then to do it underhanded. Wilt Chamberlain actually shot like that for one season, and it was his best free throw percentage year of his career. However, he didn't do it the next year because he thought it was humiliating

I hate the new rule. Why is the NBA rewarding these bad free throw line shooters they play basketball for a living. I hate when people say oh he is a big man his hands are too big. Well why does Dirk shoot 88% from there, why does Marc Gasol shoot 76%. I think the best example is Blake Griffin he shot 52% in his 2 season last season he shot 73% thats proof that anyone can improve there free throw %.

DeAndre Jordan and Andre Drummond made a huge leap in the last few seasons! * Andre Drummond went from shooting 38% from his first 5 years to 60% in his last four seasons. * DeAndre Jordan went from shooting 46.6% to an incredible 77.3% from the charity stripes in 2019 with the Knicks! * Another poor shooter was Clint Capela, whom had shot an abysmal 17% and 37% on years 1 & 2, before averaging 63.6% in 2019! Incredible works by these guys.

I like the new rule in the terms of speeding up the game and increasing the intensity without you getting released from the atmosphere of the game. On the other hand, I don't believe that players should get off the hook for being bad at free throws. When I used to play basketball, I practiced everyday on my shots, not just free throws. After I got injured and stopped playing for a while, I came back and I was complete trash. After practicing, I brought my shooting percentage up, but it came with hard work which is what those players have to put in to deserve the money their making.
@nonplayerzealot45 жыл бұрын
Also WRONG in the Wilt section. The rule is that a FT shooter can't cross the line until the ball has hit the rim. Then he's free to cross the line.
@MrCarterVince7 жыл бұрын
I like the new rule. Sure, terrible free throw shooters will get fouled regardless but watching Dwight and Drummond shoot 30 free throws is boring, slows down the game and is unnecessary for fans who paid money to see guys perform. For guys who shoot bad, it is in the head. Howard shoot 70% in practices

I really, really don't understand it. I don't see how sufficient training couldn't allow one to shoot at least around 65% from the line. Seems that these players didn't put nearly the proportional amount of time into free throw shooting that they should have, given how much free throw shooting helps a team win games.
@billswedan27388 жыл бұрын
Christopher Johnson most bad free throw shooters are good in practice, just when it comes to a game, they can't do it. It's real easy to say that you could just "ask" someone on your team to help you, but it's a lot more complex then that

tbh the hack a player rule effects both teams imo it obviously effects the teams with the bad shooter but also it effects the team who hacks by putting their players in foul trouble or bonus situations.... i say the best way to solve this is simple... either the shooter works on freethrows during practice or has his minutes cut because the lack of dedication that player has in becoming a better player...

As a team I could see the value in hacking an opponent like Deandre Jordan as legitimate strategy. As a viewer and a fan I hate seeing an exciting game come to a screeching halt and dragging the last few minutes out into 10-20 plus minutes. I hate it. No one wants to see bad basketball. Its like watching a great movie and then with 10 minutes left someone stops the movie, sets the dvd on fire, and then puts on a terrible movie as a substitute. I am glad the NBA is trying to stop it.

The rule disallowing Hack-A->>> is of course ripe, raw fecal matter with corn and peanuts in it. They didn't have a problem with it for the entirety of Shaq's 17-18 year career and now that there are a few players who were getting the same treatment that the NBA told Magic/Laker/etc fans was "fair", they magically change up and say it ruins the game. Yeah, no shit, Stern/Silver. They made Shaq a special case since he was so dominant. They forced him to endure that silly horseshit for years (not to mention fans bored to death at home) to make it appear that he wasn't being favored. Now that there are 3-4 goons to hack in similar fashion, uh oh.... Stern and Silver are the same snake. Wicked and vile. Money grubbing. Ugly, too. Silver looks like Nosferatu.
