What really surprised me about 7 Wonders, is how fast it plays on line. In the first lockdown we tried it online with our gaming group, and the game lasted less than a quarter of an hour. It's become one of the games we almost always play, when we can't meet up in person.

Splendor is such a great introductory set collection/engine builder game. It works well with non-gamers and children. It’s as streamline as you can get. I think it will hang around for a very long time. It always appears in the top 20 most played each month on BGG.

Yeah, so popular. I know several people who list it as their favorite game. But I tried to introduce it to my own wife and kids years ago and NOBODY liked it. I think it has some staying power, but like so many other games, it will slowly slip and slip and slip til it’s out of the Top100.

There are tens of thousands of games, and I bet each contributor legitimately have played (or in some of their cases, illegitimately - you know who I'm talking to) played over 2000 games and this is the top 100. Decided this year to track the games you all mention according to 1. Games I want to play (w) 2. Games I’ve played (p) 3. Games I own (o) Crossover in this stretch: Mike: (1) #53 (o) Zee: (4) #56-53 (2p, w, p) Tom: (5) #57-55, 53, 51 (w, p, o, 2p) People: (6) #60, 58, 55-52 (3p, o, p, o) Totals (this stretch): Own = 4 Played = 10 Want to play = 2 Totals (overall, trying not to count repeats): Own = 14 Played = 27 Want to play = 12 Notes: 1. Want to play can mean I want to own it, I just haven’t played it or outright bought it before playing it. 2. Stopping counting crossovers because if I don’t want to play the game, don’t own it, or haven’t played it I won’t write it down and may miss to count it like what happened with Dixit. Sorry to Dixit. I’ll play it, just not seeking it out. 3. I love Zee but [edit] [edit] 4 matches with Zee this set of ten, who is this handsomely funny man!?!? I still don’t own a game on Zee’s list. 4. Back to back lists Mike and I have (1) crossover; I don’t even know who you are anymore. 5. The People have twice now tied with Tom at (6) matches in a given listing of ten; Tom’s (6) was back in 90-81. The People 70-61; 60-51. 6. The highest crossover is games played at (8) with the People; games owned (7) and played (7) with Tom is next highest. 7. The People & I have (17) total crossovers Tom & I have (17) total crossovers Mike & I have (14) total crossovers Zee & I have (8) total crossovers

Haven't played Crew yet, but Mike's wrong about it on the count that Crew's easy to produce, translate and probably to obtain rights for. Some of People's choice games on the list you find surprising are also the result of that. For example, Splendor. You're talking about Splendor killers, but my local printing company just acquired the rights for it, printed it out easily, and made it available everywhere for cheap. I never saw a Vindication box in real life, while only yesterday I saw Splendor in an office supply store! And here's the rest of their offer and you make the connection: Dixit, 7 Wonders, Codenames, Carcassone, Kingdomino. So there's a far greater chance for people to be familiar with these, and vote for them in the end. In a couple years, I honestly expect that in a few years the majority of People's choice will be cardboard-only.

You even reached to Georgia (not usa). Only there are too few people who is familiar with board games except for Monopoly. I bought Terraforming Mars Chinese copy with terrible quality board and resource cubes, and i totally fell into board games. I have only few tho, bought from ebay. Because in Georgia there is only one shop selling board games and they are extremely expensive, like Scythe costs almost 500gel (150$). it's 25% of my monthly payment, and I'm an orthopedic surgeon. I'm looking for to buy used one on ebay. So i always listen to you, what is good and what is bad. I have Ultra tiny epic galaxies and kingdoms, Terraformimg mars, Sprawlopolis, Ticket To Ride Europe and fallout (because I'm fan of the video game series of Fallout), but didn't liked it much. My wife likes board games a bit but not much, prefers cross stitching lol. So i mostly lean to games that also have solo mode. i wish i had at least 10% of your library. ☺️ Anyway, thank you guys, you are the best!!!

Mike is crushing it on his list. And I totally agree that Nemesis is not that difficult to teach. It may be challenging to *learn*, and takes a lot of care (and keeping the rule book handy) to *run* the game. But teaching is remarkably smooth because you can teach or gradually as the players slowly make their way through the ship. You enter this room and it’s on fire, so let me tell you about how fire works. This other room has a mechanical failure, now I can introduce that rule. You can slowly introduce each aspect I’d the game in this manner, including the aliens themselves (combat, infection, etc). I’ve had great success teaching the game in this progressive way and it only contributes to the thematic immersion. The rules slowly reveal themselves as you explore the ship.

@@heavymike3248 I have more than 700 games in my collection. Favorites range from heavy euros to twilight imperium to straight up dice chucking ameritrash, and I can't imagine not having a quick, fun, easy to play, easy to teach game like splendor up at the top of my list. I wonder if people get a little spoiled never having to cold teach a bunch of straights. At least people who go to a gaming club expect to be taught a new game. I have to ambush every random person who walks by my house :-)

@@JeramyWareWOW 700 games. I am at about 50 games. I have to keep it light to medium weight so I can get people to the table. Yeah, i go to game clubs. I spend half the time learning and half teaching. Where you from?

@@heavymike3248 Austin, Texas. The collection is honestly too big. I watched too many of these top 100 videos too early in my collecting. Now most of it sits around untouched for years at a time. To me though that's what makes games like Splendor really stand out. No matter how many games I have in my collection, and no matter how little even the games I love get played, splendor or love letter and the simple games still come out almost weekly.

KoT is my introductory game. Everyone has liked it from age 7 to 50.. literally. I agree that they should scale up the parts with miniatures or something. TTR; no. Loathe it! Its so simple that it might as well be Uno, and when your strategy fails, the only thing left to do is hurt everyone else. I hate games that encourage devisiveness. I get enough of that in the real world. Games are supposed to be fun and immersive, for me.

I played Nemesis a handful of times but I wasn't impressed. It's an okay game but I found the semi-cooperative/traitor mechanic to be a bit lackluster.

Nemesis is terrible because of that semi-cooperative aspect.

Usually I agree with Zee on practically everything. However, I did not like Kokoro at all. It wasn’t exciting and I didn’t feel like it was balanced. I love Kodama, though.

I don't understand king of Tokyo love. It's like buying a bag of chips and instead of being 50% air it's like 90% air. It's fun if I was 13 but yeah.

So this really isn't a list of the "Best Games of All-Time", these are lists of the games you've played the most in the last year. That's it. Otherwise, games like Ticket to Ride, King of Tokyo, Agricola, and others that have stood up for a number of years would be much higher on most lists. I will be interested to see how many games in the top 20 came out in the last couple years.

I mean...maybe? Unless you play some of these older games relatively frequently its pretty difficult to tell if it is subjectivly better than a newer game or if newer mechanics have just surpassed older ones...which does happen a lot. New ideas move the whole hobby forward. It's also all taste. I agree that Ticket To Ride is popular but I'm not sure if it would hit my top 100 either. Certainly not top 50. Ditto King of Tokyo. Agricola might but its all to taste. My favorite game is The Resistance and plenty would say that game is firmly in old and busted territory.

It is THEIR favorite games of all time. If they don't play a game anymore, why would it be on their PERSONAL lists? Oh, and King of Tokyo? Really? I love that game, but it's not a top game. And Agricola is garbage. One of the most overrated games of all time, even before numerous games completely replaced it.
