There is a saying in my country, at the cost of sounding cheesy, it's the first thing we are taught, "My god and my teacher, while they both are standing infront of me, I am perplexed at the thought of who I should mention first (Touch their feet as respect in our culture). I end up touching my teachers feet cause without them I wouldn't have known God at all." So idk what you are doing wrong, but I am planning on practicing everything you said so far. Thank you for your honest hard work.

Once you learn proper technique, you can increase your speed and power in the correct movement pattern. Sometimes it’s quicker and faster to cheat early on but then you develop bad habits and have to unlearn then go back and relearn and that takes A LOT of time and effort!!

Back in high school, the thing that worked for me was a series of 5-6 jabs to the face and then an uppercut or cross to the gut. This simple combo saved my ass through throughout the 4 years. The best thing is when the bully types know that you can fight back they will usually leave you alone.

Been following you recently. Certainly a big help for people that want to pick up boxing. I used to box , used to love it. My trainer and coach said I had so much talent. Stepped into the ring to quick imo. Only 4 months after I started boxing. I froze up. Forgot everything. I've always been a nervous guy and all that crowd. I couldn't handle it.. Seeing your videos I'm thinking about trying again.. Stopped going to the boxing gym but kept training on my own. Keep posting man!

Technique is everything. If your main focus is technique, not only will you become much better, but it also is an indicator that you are actually passionate about the art and care about being “the real deal”. Another less emphasized part of fighting is tactic. Knowing WHEN to throw technique and WHY you’re throwing it.

Great tips. I will use these thanks. Rocky Marciano threw straight-right followed by a left-hook. He crouched very low to throw the straight-right. He created a massive hip drive (similar to world class track and field throwers) and usually knocked his opponent out. He was small for a heavyweight but this unusual crouching technique worked for him. I understand Tony advising against this generally. Also, I cringe when boxers drop their guard. I remember when Oliver Mcall (?) dropped Lenox Lewis after dropping his guard.
@ianbruce9603 Жыл бұрын
Good to know my own boxing trainer knows what he's talking about. He emphasizes virtually all of the tips you covered -- breathing technique, hand position, form, etc. -- every session. I've be doing this for just over 4 months so far, and steadily improving. Need to work on getting more power in my left jab -- particularly double jabs. Any tips you have would be appreciated. For anyone who's been thinking about getting into boxing, it's fantastic exercise, and you're learning a skill while doing it.

Funny, I checked my right hand when doing left-2-hook, and it seems I pull my hand a bit into my face instead of down. I have mostly done shadow boxing over the last year with as main focus defence, so that might be part of it. I attempted to minimize openings, and if one hand is out the other needs to be in extra tight (also I use my left shoulder to defend left)
