King's Champion over Gwahir, I can't wrap my head around it. The King's Champion is excellent and probably the most Point per value model in the game. But Gwahir is everywhere. He's not just good, with a profile that's hard to kill, but he offers new gameplans and playstyle and brings massive utility. A flying monster that counts as infantry, with 3 will points, 3 fate and access to Defence and Strike.

late to the party but had to weigh in as a khazad player. gwahir is everywhere because he's just about the only good monster (outside ents) and has flight.(which is great, but does get you shot a lot, i also run isengard and corsairs and really like seeing the bird on the other side with any of my armies, cause its 150 with might that dies consistently ) beyond that and without army bonus (which he never has cause yellow allies) his profile is a bit meh. S6 2 attack. the number of games where I've seen gwahir dive in on a hero (or troops!) an just bounce/take wounds is depressing. kings champ is more reliable value, has the tools to straight up fight the big seagull, PLUS two D9 fated banners. you just dont see them allied as much cause most lists have banners/fighters (even if they're worse) when you actually add up point for point what you get, its kings champ all the way

I've had Galadriel as my leader in contest of champions... Sad thing is I almost had a chance of winning. Edit: Y'all absolutely SLEPT on Bifur! I've played him at lest two dozen games and have only ever failed to get his headbut free moves off in probably 4, usually against all hero armies. Leave in one of the most unreliable elven lords? Elrond, Thrandaddy, Gil Galad, even Celeborn over Glorfy any day of the week. UNSUBSCRIBE -Liam

I may have been a bit too passionate over Bifurs dismissal to include Celeborn. Though having a 3+ transfix on a fight 6 hero is really good, plus as you said later on, enchanted blades is a helluva drug, and he doesn't need another hero to give it to him. Honestly stand by Glorfindel being one of the worst elven lords! -Liam

I missed the community poll but I think my vote would have been between Imrahil, or Boromir of the White tower. I think Imrahil is pretty self explained but Boromir of the White tower is a bit more expensive than his other profile for certain but being able to either take a lance/shield or the banner is very different style but both amazing. 6 might with 3's in the right spots too just makes him a force to be reckoned with. You guys have definitely brought me over to the fellowship profile of Boromir much more than I ever had but I still struggle on his fate dilemma hahaha. Even though he has Defence which I think is the best heroic for the fight phase it still hurts me to see the 0 :( *Edit* Just finished watching and thats hilarious that 2 of my fav's were at the end!

I'm probably a little biased being a Fiefdoms player but I'd definitely take Imrahil over Boromir. 40 points cheeper with a lance. I'd also take the 12 inch banner and 3 inch fight bonus over 6 of both. It gives him way more flexibility. Imrahil can hit a flank and have the hole line in range. Boromir can't do that

Great arguments for Imrahil! Boromir on the other hand has twice the Might, F7, and provides you with a much longer F5 battle line. In the end, they’re both excellent but we had to pick a winner. -Charles

Surprised to see a pick like Rumil, over someone like a Gil galad. He can obviously be shut down like many heros through magic, but considering the “fear factor”, and the fact that his horse is probs the most targeted mount in the game, I figure that’s an indication that he’s at least an honourable mention. If Rumil is good because he can win fights… GG is one of the best in the game at that! Obviously he has his ally restrictions and high cost though, so I can see him not being in the top few models. He’s definitely one of goods best hero killers/ slayer models though, I think that much is clear! Also a word of support for glorfindel - the main complaint is that he can’t kill things, but he still has many ways to supplement that - two handed with 6 attacks, heroic strength, charging model with lord of the west, plus he’s almost always a perfect pairing with Cirdan, who gives enchanted blades and troop support spells (I almost consider them a package deal), so realistically he doesn’t have any large weaknesses in my mind. Anyway love the channel, keep up the great work!

Absolutely, I think we were all surprised by the Rumil pick! I like Gil more as well. His performance is a bit matchup dependant due to his weakness to magic but I'm with you, he is absolutely one of the most terrifying models to go up against! I'm an alliance guy so I would be constantly fielding him if he had just a few less restrictions! Maybe one day... -Richard

For sure, hopefully we will see a last alliance supplement soon. Also to edit the second part of my original comment, a good argument for glorfindel is his versatility, I think people sleep on his mobility, and ability to keep his mount, just such a great model in almost any scenario, but elendil is such a beast hard to argue against him. Would love to see more list videos like this in the future though! One last question - I’m also in the Vancouver area, does the west coast community ever host events for players that have a decent grasp of the stats and rules but not much hands on competitive experience or few models?

Elendil is way better than Imrahil. You can get a banner effect with every army list as just an upgrade but resistance to magic is very rare. Elendil and Numenor has much more survivability against magic and Fiefdoms has nothing at all and magic has become the meta.

That's a fair argument magic resistance is rare but if a 3" banner is already 25 points then a 12" banner effect is worth exponentially more even if it's relatively obtainable. It's definitely a close one. -Richard

This might just be personal preference but at 500 points and below, if I have a banner effect sometimes I forego the actual banner. At higher points, you are right, I almost always try to take a banner.

Isildur maybe flew under the radar which is thematic, even regular tournament players often blunder against him. Even without the Ring he is already a bit of a bargain as a regular S5 magic resistant beatstick. Ring shenanigans just catch people off guard on top so often.

Yep, that's right. I guess it was a bit confusing but when I say magic resistance it just means some sort of rule that protects them from magic and not referring directly to the "Resistance to Magic" special rule. Good attention to detail :) -Richard

Should you always two hand with Elendil? He does get +1 to wound without a duel penalty. But if you lose you’ll won’t have the shield to save you. Against many s3 that d8 instead of d7 may save you.

Probably 2hand 95% of the time but you're right there are times you may not want to. I had a game where killing didn't matter anymore and I was just trying to not give up leader VPs I shield with Elendil like 3 turns in a row and that won me the game. So it's definitely good to have that option. -Richard

@intothewestpodcast Shielding with Ellendil is a move that your opponent won't see coming. Plus, you might scare the crap out of them for like 5 seconds. A 6 dice Elendil is pretty scary. A may have them forget for a moment that you won't be able to make strikes.

I'm relatively new to the game, so I'm kinda curious. Why are Aragorn - Strider and Aragorn King Elessar not being discussed? How do you guys feel about Legolas and Gimli?

Strider is not in the most competitive armies so rarely seen and is a bit expensive as an ally. But he can work well in certain lists. King Elessar is very expensive and can be shutdown by transfixes, you have to do a lot to make his points back. Though I have seen some make him work, he can excel in certain matchups for sure. Legolas is really good, he could have an argument to be on this list. Gimli is pretty mediocre unfortunately, he's a decent fighter but he's slow and he doesn't have any crazy special rules. -Richard

Before Elrond was nerfed three times, I would absolutely agree. Unfortunately his Wrath of Bruinen, Renew, and Foresight abilities are not as good as they used to be. -Charles

I agree about Elrond, but there are more expensive hero’s on the list than gilgalad that have no more magic resistance. Most big heros have just the 3 will, which is why glorfindel and elendil are so good.

The scope of this ranking is so broad that it becomes overwhelming. Some heroes only have value with another hero like Lindir, Sam, Hama. Some are purely for support like Cirdan, Malbeth. Some of the heroes grant army benefits which could be wasted if not utilized and are often hard to evaluate. Some heroes are awesome for thematic or aesthetic reasons. Some are easy to get value from and some are really complicated to really get max value out of
