A big problem with live anthem singers is they don't know the difference between a song in 4/4 and 3/4, so they completely botch the American anthem and it sounds absolutely terrible. Actual musicians often understand, and can play well, but tons of performers aren't musicians and don't understand the difference.
@klmullins652 ай бұрын
The Star Spangled Banner is an extremely difficult song to sing... most people don't realize it because they either sing it in a large crowd of people, or softly to themselves. Consider the range between "Oh say can you see..." and "...for the land of the free...". Most people don't have the vocal ability to cover that range. And 99.9% of Americans don't know that the version they're used to hearing at sporting events is only the FIRST verse...there are alot more words, most describing very violent scenarios!
@tommyhaynes91572 ай бұрын
It's a terrible song with an awkward melody . We could do better
@calebhohneke8482Ай бұрын
@@klmullins65 The Star Spangled banner requires a two octave range. A two octave range for men and women is common. The Star Spangled Banner was written in the key of Bb major, and most singers sing it in the key of G (the most popular key for many genres) for comfort reasons. If you start off the song in a familiar key and at a lower octave of your register, there really shouldn't be much issue hitting the notes towards the end. The most complex parts of the anthem require good vocal control during the longer notes and being able to feel the 6/8 or 3/4 time signature. When professional singers struggle to sing it, it more often has to do with choices they made that made the song harder to sing to hit those upper power notes. In the end, it's a song that's as complex as you want to make it. If you aim for a range and key that's comfortable for your voice, it isn't all that difficult to nail. But obviously singers want to show off a bit too haha. People are use to hearing it in a "pushing the limits" kind of way hence why people think it's extremely difficult to sing. But it doesn't have to be sang that way. Jack Black's rendition is a perfect example. Didn't overdue it, sang in a range that's comfortable, and nailed it.
@klmullins65Ай бұрын
@@calebhohneke8482 Yes, but its not an easy song to sing if youʻre NOT a professional, or at least a talented non professional. Bresth control, and singing songs in the proper pitch in order to nail the whole song…those arenʻt techniques that your average person consider when singing a song. Iʻve been a musician for decades, and i now struggle to sing along with hymns at church now, because I run out of breath before i can get the words out, especially Episcopalian hymns. Im not a trained musician, but i am a talented instrumentalist, and iʻve had a “decent” voice, given the right material. Imo, our National Anthem should be simpler, and more folk-based….”This Land is Your Land”, “America the Beautiful”, “God Bless America”… any of those songs would be better, plus theyre not about bombs and rockets, and slaughtering Red Coats. I picture a song that kids could sing along to, and enjoy doing it

It's amazing how many famous singers can't actually sing when singing is supposed to be their thing. I don't like Mariah Carey, but this was not her fault and 100% a technical issue. She couldn't hear herself sing in a noisy environment. It would have been like trying to sing pitch perfect when you're in the middle of a crowd at a rock concert when everyone else is singing.

The worst concert I ever went to was The Beach Boys, and I was STOKED my dad got us tickets! But because a storm had been predicted, they kept “waiting for updates” for FIVE FREAKING HOURS until they finally canceled it-and we all got stuck in traffic, and the storm, and the floods, with no bathrooms or places to take shelter because everything was closed. Had they just done the concert on time, with the scheduled set, we all would have been done and out before the first raindrops fell. 🙄

Sometimes, artists should not let themselves be pushed beyond their limits. I think many times artists are just not ready for the shows they agree to perform. But they have signed contracts, etc. out of wanting fame, fortune, etc. But if they are not prepared for it, then they should not perform. Carly Simon and Barbra Streisand are known to not give live performances because too many things can go wrong. So they won’t perform. A lot of these young artists should learn that lesson. If you’re not up to it, stay home.

The Led Zeppelin Live Aid performance was ATROCIOUS! Just a train wreck. It's interesting to see THAT one against The Who at Live Aid, which also was plagued with technical problems, but they pushed through just playing their hearts out despite the screw ups. The Who salvaged their set while Zeppelin fell apart. There is a video out there going over all the viewpoints of that mess where everyone, I think, takes a share of blame, but some got dumped on harder than others, unjustly so. They had no rehearsal, Plant's voice was gassed, and they just had no synergy. Collins was paired with another drummer that I don't think he enjoyed playing or working with. It was not going to work out AT ALL!
