I'm surprised i found this small channel. He is of: 1) Same ethnicity (Pressumably chinese) 2) Same height (5'9) 3) Similar lifting abilities (2x bw squats and deadlifts) 4) Similar vert (34 inch) 5) WE BOTH WANT TO DUNK AND HAVENT GOTTEN IT YET Just wow.

That's awesome to hear! It's great to find someone whos in the same position as you. Still haven't got a legit dunk yet, but next year is coming.

@@Hobe23 do you need to have strong arms to perform the power cleans? For me when I perform them my arms hurt alot. I'm curious if there's a special technique to use less of your arm muscle.
@Hobe234 жыл бұрын
@@mikeycoronel4192 Well to a degree I think you need arms, but the whole posterior chain is the most important for the power cleans. I am currently doing cleans for the 3 rep ranges. I suggest you try lower weights if your arm is hurting. A lot of the times it's better to start at a lower weight and progressively overload so your body can adjust. It also may be your form. My form is still pretty garbage, but I'm a lot better since I started. From the information alone, I wouldn't know 100% what's causing the pain in your arms.

I’m 15 and I’m 5’10, I use to be able to grab rim but I injured my knee and lost about 3 inches on my vert and Can only just barely touch rim now. I want to get back to my old self and dunk by my junior year

Couple things with your clean: - don't jerk the bar up with your arms, keep the bar close to your body, drive it up in a straight line and once its at the apex drop underneath it - fix your wrist mobility so you catch the bar in your finger tips so there is less pressure on your wrists
@Hobe234 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for your input. I've also noticed that I used my arm way to much in my clean. If you look at my recent videos I've improved my form a lot. A lot of the clips of me cleaning is when I first started incorporating it to my routine. But, I still have much to improve.

I’m just saying when you’re squatting you use more of your right leg. That’s what I saw because your hip shifted towards the right so I just don’t want you to like slip a disc or something in your lower back. You’re right with how it helps your vertical just be careful with your form.
@espinozapy4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Love your video. I would suggest to train Front Squats aswell and get those elbows UP, let the bar rest on your upper chest, and shoulders. Get more mobility in your shoulders for that exercise. Also I would recommend trying plyometric exercises, or at least using standard exercises but making them more explosive... "stretch-shortening cycle" - train your muscles and nervous system to accelerate the contraction of muscles. Try it out and see if it fits you 😉🤙🏽, if don't continue with standard training, every one is diferent.
@Hobe234 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input! I don't really do front squats as a standalone lift, but I will definitely start incorporating them once I get back to the gym because it helps my clean. I already have Plyometrics in my routine! I just made a quarantine plyometric workout, so we don't lose gains during these times. Thanks!

I have a few questions 1. How much do you weigh? 2. Isn't highbar squats or front squats more effective? 3. What do you think about snatches and jerks? Actually those 2 are quite difficult to perform in a regular gym so just asking lol..
@Hobe234 жыл бұрын
1. I currently weight (70 kg) 154lbs, but when I was jumping the highest I was (68.5 - 69 kg) 150lb. 2. More effective in targeting thighs, yes. I like back squats, because it targets the overall strength better (you can lift more) alongside the with the glutes. It also has bette hip extension. But, the front squat is definitely better for cleans. 3. I think snatch and jerks are great! I think they target overall power which is great for vertical, but the clean is enough for me because it focus more of the lower body power with the triple extension. And, yes you are right those are difficult movements. I've never tried snatching and jerks from cleans myself, but I would love to get into it. Thanks for the question!

How much weight should we use for the clean?
@Hobe234 жыл бұрын
The weight should be how much you can lift for 1-3 reps. There is no definitive answer cuz everyone has different levels of strength. The important part is progressively overloading. I started off with 25lb and moved up to a plate in 2 weeks? But, this might be because my compound lifts were already generally strong. Just make sure you are giving your max effort in each lift and really focus in lifting the weight efficiently.
@espinozapy4 жыл бұрын
I would suggest to ask someone about proper tecnique or watch a video about it. Then trying it out and always train with weight you can handle with proper tecnique. If you're struggling with your tecnique lower the weight a little bit and get stronger... don't risk injurying yourself, ok?

STOP SAYING TRIPLE EXTENSION. TRIPLE EXTENSION MEANS YOU EXTEND YOUR KNEES HIPS AND ANKLES. YOU DON’T EXTENS YOUR ANKLES IN A SQUAT OR A DEADLIFT
@Hobe234 жыл бұрын
Sure, you don't achieve full extension of the ankles, legs and hips, but they do extend together. Which is what we are trying to get more efficient at. If you don't extend your ankles slightly in a deadlift or a squat, not sure what your doing then.
