Yes! I have a rough collie and he's amazing. Mine is a mutt, so he's mixed, but we live on 20 acres and he's an amazing alert dog, letting us know about threats on the property and even chasing away the odd bear. He's also super friendly to people except for if they're being unsafe. For example, I once had the police banging on my door in the middle of the night (looking for someone and had the wrong house) and omg his bark turned so mean, I'd never heard him like that.

Mental stimulation is right. I watched an Australian Working Dog Rescue livestream and they made this point. They spoke about a dog they adopted to a guy who lives in an apartment, but fishes for a living and takes the dog out on his boat. By the end of the day the dog's happy to come back to the little apartment and chill out.

@guero210
@guero210 Ай бұрын
@@nonames5139 cause pits were bred to be fighting dogs. They are naturally dominant. Those owners were too weak to be owning a pit in the first place, so naturally the dog ends up challenging it’s owner. This is not the case with proper training, and proper treatment of the dog. Usually those owners treat them like a spoiled baby, thus resulting in such behavior. You have to be stern and dominant with them aswell as setting clear boundaries and that will never happen. I have been around pit bulls and pit bull trainers/owners my whole life. Never had I seen or heard of such incident other than the media.

I have a blue heeler and she is unlike any dog I have ever been around. She was potty trained in a week and by the time she was 6 months old I had already taught her 7 different tricks (she now knows 14 and we are working on dancing). I had no experience training dogs tricks prior to her and literally KZbind everything. But she is also very sensitive to emotion so the only way to go with her personally was positive reinforcement training because she in no way shape or form wants to do anything that will make me upset and only wants to please, she is also very tapped into my emotions at all times and is the service dog I never knew I needed. Basically my review of the heeler is they are the best dog breed ever and I won’t own anything but a cattle dog ever again.

I toilet trained my lab within a week when he was 9 weeks old, but it took him until 5 months old before he could hold it in his crate and for some reason could easily sleep through the night in my room without any accidents. I've recently got a 14 week old lab puppy and she's going to be difficult because she's "too old" for easy toilet training. I'll take her outside for 20-30 minutes and she does nothing and even if she does, I'll leave her in her crate for a little bit and within 20 minutes she's done a protest pee and poop. I'm not leaving her loose when I'm not around either because puppy pads are a waste of money and make training difficult. They also get chewed up whenever I have used them in the past. She'll have to learn the hard way and I'll just have to "waterboard"/bathe her on a daily basis until she "gets it" like I did with my boy.

Before you get a doodle mix make sure you can afford to take them to the grooming salon every couple months. Depending on the coat type and cost of living in your area it can easily be 70-100 bucks to get them groomed, and if you don't brush them every day or two they will get matted
@Deerthedoe6842

You can also learn how to cut fur. Like... My aunt worked at a beaty salon and she was very used at cutting hair with scissors or the machine. One day she noticed we were spending too much with our Doodle mix (even tho she was a small breed, the pet shop we used to go had a nasty price) and tried to cut her fur one day. It ended up so well our doodle never went to a groomer ever again. We bathed her and our other dogs inside our house and it was easier to take care of her fur by ourselves than going to a groomer.

we have teo poodles (same fur) and we just got a dog cutting machine (bit like a razor where you can adjust the length on the front piece to your desired fur length) and just groom them ourselves. As a groomer, some doodles are not fully hypoallergenic. Poodles are, however they are mixed with a breed that sheds and can as a result be non hypoallergenic. Also doodles are so popular right now, there is tons of inbreeding going on which is causing all sorts of health and behavioral problems. They are great family dogs and if you are interested in getting one, please please do your research for a reputable breeder and ask your local groomer about the correct grooming regimen you're going to need both at home and in the salon. Grooming salons are overrun right now with matted doodles that are not being brushed properly at home. They are high maintenance if you want a long, fluffy coat. Not the dog for everyone, but can be a great dog.

i was going to say the same thing. i've become a groomer amidst the doodle craze and the f1 pups are usually okay but inbreeding and whatnot is a big problem i see. a lot of people constantly come in saying they have original goldendoodles, labradoodles, or f1s and even as a new groomer and someone who owns cats i can tell at a glance that they were scammed. most of them are too proud to be told they were lied to so i've learned to keep it to myself (older groomers usually dont and occasionally i do love to see a pet parent argue about their inbred dog). most doodles i meet are super sweet but have no sense of space. out of the dozens i've met i've probably only been impressed by a handful

Topics like this need more pet groomers telling people how much care/maintenance a little/non shedding dog needs. AKA if you're too lazy to brush the dog daily you'll need to do more visits to the groomers to keep it shortish because matting is very painful and the dog may even need to be sedated to get the matting off.

I'm 35 and have had dogs since I was 3-4yrs old, our pitbull was the best faminal we've ever had. Our entire family, mine and my wife's loved him so much, and everyone attended his euthanasia, parents all, siblings, niece, aunts, etc. He was our boy, human like, cuddle bug with humans, grew up with cats and dogs of all sizes. He raised his little brother tuxedo cat and sunbathed with him every day. Walked by my side, but when I wasn't there or the wife handled him he was her protector, she felt comfortable walking anywhere and everywhere with him throughout our apartments we lived at. All though his small bread brothers and sisters bullied him (he was 65lbs and they were no more than 16 lbs), he was their protector. ❤

As a trainer, I would not recommend a cattle dog to a novice anymore than you would recommend a Belgian Malinois to a novice for much the same reasons. And they come juiced up right on ready from sunup to sundown. That can make it hell on anybody that doesn’t have that kind of energy level or doesn’t know how to direct it. And I’m not trying to be rude by stating the obvious but they bite they were bred to nip and they will do just that they will find a way to get away to relieve that nip energy, shorts like yours just made it so much harder for those of us who just have to take up the slack in rescue

I did absolutely zero training with these dogs yet they were both so smart and obedient you would think they were properly trained. Both would never leave my side. I could walk my red heeler unleashed without worry even when someone else was walking their dog nearby. All I did was spend a lot of time with them as puppies and sort of imprint on them who was the boss through a combo of both a lot of interaction with them starting at a young age and like a parent showing my displeasure to discipline them.

I definitely would not recommend Australian Cattle Dog Aka a heeler unless you are experienced because they have incredible amounts of energy and are notorious for biting because of their working drive. There are an insane amount of heeler and heeler mixes in shelters because people buy them expecting a great apartment dog or low energy family dog and they end up not being. They are bred to run around a farm or ranch all day which means they never stop going and can't just be locked into a kennel. They are also very protective of their person and can be aggressive to people they think are a threat. Also herding can not be trained out of them you can find individual dogs with less of a herding instinct but the only way you'll be able to keep their herding in check is giving them a job. THEY ARE A WORKING BREED.

Absolutely agree with you about ACD's. They are way beyond the average family. They are amazing but love to use their teeth, on you, your kids, friends, neighbors, other pets, etc. I always say the Best thing about an ACD is they are so smart. And the Worst thing about them is they are so smart. They need jobs and they usually bond to one person. Most are not family dogs because of their focus on their person. They are often very wary of strangers, they jump a lot. I agree that there are way too many heelers in shelters because people don't understand them, they are not for everyone and certainly not people new to dogs!!!

Gentle, funny, sweet, and he just KNOWS when it’s time to switch to guard mode. He’s never aggressive, but he’ll just be… extremely present. If need be, a rumble will rise from his throat. Then he’ll give me a look that says “You good?” He knows I’m in charge. I’ve seen him chase off foxes (the Chicken Murderers terrorising the neighbourhood) and cuddle with kittens and ducklings. He’s loyal, child-friendly (adores kids), and the biggest snuggler around. When something seems off, he comes and gets me, then stays close by to make sure I can handle whatever’s up. Best dog ever.

I am so grateful and happy a professional dog trainer validating pitbull terriers as great family dog, they are highly intelligent but you must also acknowledge the American Staffordshire terrier. I had one for 14 yrs + she was fantastic with kids and everyone I introduced as friendly. Super gentle with other animals including kittens, ducks and squirrels. But was also an amazing protector and guard dog for your home as well. Super athletic, the most intelligent dog I have ever experienced, literally problem solving intelligence. You could speak full sentences to her and she would understand. People who say you cannot teach an old dog new tricks, well they never owned an Am Staff. She learned how to swim under water in the Colorado River after she was 9 years old and continued to handle new tasks and challenges daily. A hunting dog, catch frisbies and would swim for an hour straight

Labradoodles have a great temperament, but they need a lot of exercise because they’re a cross of two hunting dogs. Doc had finally had enough of people saying this about their dogs and told the guy "two of the allergens from dogs are in their mouths so unless your dog has no mouth then it is not hypoallergenic." The guy looked stunned and I had to leave the room to keep from laughing. Breeders need to stop saying their dog is hypoallergenic because it's not true. Best dog I ever had pit-lab mix. 3 years old saved from the streets he had never been in a house. Was so easy to train, and a gentle giant, till a threatening dog came around. In his life, he made 2 dogs very sorry they were aggressive. He released them on command, but a big boxer wanted seconds. When I called release again the boxer left that time. Boxer went up on hind legs buster hit him so hard low and flipped him 3 feet in the air. caught his neck in his mouth while applying a bear hug. Boxer could not even move or was afraid to. When I called him off boxer wasted no time throwing in the towel. I channeled his streetwise life to chasing frisbees, which included waiting and being free to chase, but always with release on return and never played tug with it. The tug game was for a rope. frisbee was about to get it and release.

One thing that seems to always be left out. Rescue dogs. We adopted one in 2007. He grew to be about 100lbs. He appeared to be a mix of Shepard, St.Bernard and others. He passed away in 2021. He was wonderful with children and almost everyone else. He had no fear and was a great guardian. When he was charged aggressively by large dogs he stood his ground and gave them a look. Without him even growling they put on the brakes and slunk away. He also sensed if someone was suspicious. He gave them his look and they would quickly leave. He was the best. So I wouldn't overlook a dog because it's not a purebred. You have probably seen more then your share of problem papered dogs. We socialized him as a puppy in a puppy obedience class at the adoption place.

Unfortunately i wouldn’t suggest rescuing a full grown pit unless you have experience and take the necessary precautions because you don’t know what the previous owners did to that dog. Pits get bad names due to previous owners being neglectful and then they turn on new owners because they were triggered. It’s a few breeds I wouldn’t suggest rescuing unless you have experience in that area and pitties are one of them. (Especially if you have kids). Now if you do then PLEASE take the time to train them to try and keep from anything negative happening.

I can agree with this, as someone who has rescued pits. My autistic son had a pittie we rescued that was glued to him 24/7. We were nervous, at first, because this was a dog previously used for baiting in a fighting ring that was broken up. He never growled. He never so much as postured in a dominant manner. He was good with kittens, and ducklings, and most importantly, he got my non verbal son to talk. In fact the kid hasnt stopped talking since then. But this was an outlier case, not all pits can be fully rehabbed to the point they can be trusted around small children. And just because a dog is from a 'more popular' breed, doesnt make them less dangerous if they come from an abused past. I work in medicine, i have had to help put people's faces back on after the Labrador they rescued decided they were trying to steal his food.

As an owner of 6-8 pit bulls in my life they are great family dogs, the only one I ever had a problem with was mixed with shar pei and that is one aggressive breed.

I love this, because my pit Bull is the sweetest “lap dog”. She loves to cuddle, and only barks when she can sense something is off. Definitely my fav rescue doggo to date ❤

I can agree with the pittbull terrier as my husband and I have 3! They are so good with our two year old and very protective of him. In reality their big babies.

Listen here bub.. I've been following you for a little while now. I agree with absolutely everything you have suggested to help owners. Your style, training methods etc in my opinion are spot on. I wish I could spend time around you soaking up all the information I could.I respect you because you say what needs to be said, you don't sugar coat things & aren't easily offended. But after this video & you suggesting the APBT WE JUST BECAME BEST FRIENDS!!🤣😄

My mother and step father had a German Shepard when I was a kid, step dad was a cop, and was training this German Shepard to work with him. Came within inches of getting attacked on morning as I walked into their bedroom when I woke up, thank God my mother woke up in the Nik of time... so attacks will and can happen from any breed, but overall I would say both breeds are absolutely wonderful

You sure it was a real American pitbull terrier and not just some bully mutt?

And I was attacked by a COLLIE. It's the owners responsibility not the breed itself.

Owners have to train them right and spend ACTIVE time with them. They are not happy being a dedicated house dog. Most dog owners are lazy, ignorant, and cheap...and the dog suffers for it.

@@Aceofwolves Difference is that a collie might bite and run away, maybe breaking skin and giving you a booboo. No collie has ever killed anyone. So when a bad owners collie escapes and attacks someone at worst someone gets an ouchie. But when a bad owners pitbull escapes the neighbors children guts are spread all over the yard, and the mothers scalp is torn off afterwards before the cops shoot the thing. Notice the difference? Why do you think FAR BETTER COUNTRIES like the Scandinavian ones banned pitbulls? Do you not think theres a reason?
